This thesis was prompted by the desire to aid Lutheran Pentecost preaching. It was hoped to do that both in a positive way, determining what are the good things to be said in a Lutheran Pentecost sermon, and in a negative way, determining what are the errors to be avoided

Early Childhood Special Educators\u27 Perceived Effectiveness and Use of Behavioral Strategies Used with Challenging Behavior

The increased number of young children with disabilities exhibiting challenging behavior and the negative effects that these challenging behaviors can have on early childhood special educators and the children indicate the need for a careful examination of strategies currently implemented by early childhood special educators. This study surveyed the perceptions of 154 early childhood special educators in the State of Illinois specific to their perceived use and effectiveness of six strategies. The strategies included; positive reinforcement, communication training, time-out, adjustments to the classroom environment, response cost, and medication. Results suggested that early childhood special educators are currently implementing best practice. The strategy participants deemed to be most effective and used most often was positive reinforcement. Participants perceived their use of medication to be the lowest in comparison to other strategies and response cost to be the least effective. Additionally, a relationship seemed to exist between early childhood special educators perceived use and effectiveness of each of the six strategies. In the future, it may be beneficial to conduct this study on a national level to promote generalizability of the results. Examination of a wider variety of studies using observation as a method for obtaining data may also be beneficial

The vicious circle and infection intensity: The case of Trypanosoma microti in field vole populations

Objective: In natural populations, infection and condition may act synergistically to trigger a vicious circle: poor condition predisposes to host infections, which further reduce condition, and so on. If this vicious circle originates from a reduced resistance to infection, it will not only result in greater proneness to becoming infected of those that are in poorer condition, but it may also cause infections of higher intensity. Here, we investigate the temporal relationship between host condition and intensity of infection by a specific pathogen using as a system the dynamics of the protozoan Trypanosoma microti in field vole (Microtus agrestis) populations. Methods and results: With two years of longitudinal data from three monthly-sampled populations, we evaluated if individuals acquiring a high intensity of infection previously had lower haematological indicators of condition (red blood cells [RBCs] and lymphocyte counts) than those that acquired lower infection intensities. Also, the association of these indicators with past and present trypanosome blood levels was investigated. The individuals that developed high levels of parasitaemia were those that previously had low lymphocyte counts. Greater intensity of infection corresponded with lower RBCs only in low to moderate weight females, and no effect of intensity of infection on lymphocyte counts was observed. However, delayed effects of high trypanosome intensity were seen on both RBCs and lymphocytes. Conclusions: The vicious circle may also result in high infection intensity: individuals in poor condition are not only more likely to become infected by one pathogen; they may also be the most important source of infection for that and for other pathogens, and thus key protagonists for parasite dynamics.Fil: Beldomenico, Pablo Martín. Rinsability of Orthophthalaldehyde from Endoscopes

Orthophthalaldehyde high level disinfectants are contraindicated for use with urological instruments such as cystoscopes due to anaphylaxis-like allergic reactions during surveillance of bladder cancer patients. Allergic reactions and mucosal injuries have also been reported following colonoscopy, laryngoscopy, and transesophageal echocardiography with devices disinfected using orthophthalaldehyde. Possibly these endoscopes were not adequately rinsed after disinfection by orthophthalaldehyde. We examined this possibility by means of a zone-of-inhibition test, and also a test to extract residues of orthophthalaldehyde with acetonitrile, from sections of endoscope insertion tube materials, to measure the presence of alkaline glutaraldehyde, or glutaraldehyde plus 20% w/w isopropanol, or ortho-phthalaldehyde that remained on the endoscope materials after exposure to these disinfectants followed by a series of rinses in water, or by aeration overnight. Zones of any size indicated the disinfectant had not been rinsed away from the endoscope material. There were no zones of inhibition surrounding endoscope materials soaked in glutaraldehyde or glutaraldehyde plus isopropanol after three serial water rinses according to manufacturers' rinsing directions. The endoscope material soaked in orthophthalaldehyde produced zones of inhibition even after fifteen serial rinses with water. Orthophthalaldehyde was extracted from the rinsed endoscope material by acetonitrile. These data, and other information, indicate that the high level disinfectant orthophthalaldehyde, also known as 1,2-benzene dialdehyde, cannot be rinsed away from flexible endoscope material with any practical number of rinses with water, or by drying overnight

Paz cristiana desde la propuesta de Juan XXIII

Juan XXIII, cuyo pontificado transcurrió entre 1958 y 1963, fue el papa número 261 de la Iglesia católica. Él fue un hombre de paz que despertó el aprecio de los dirigentes de todo el mundo, más allá de sus diferencias ideológicas. Hannah Arendt en su obra Men in dark times (1970) habla acerca de él, y lo ve como un auténtico cristiano y hombre de impresionante inteligencia. Para esta filósofa, lejana de confesiones religiosas, Juan XXIII es un hombre de la luz en tiempos de oscuridad. A mi modo de ver, la propuesta de paz que este papa presentó es válida y valiosa para la búsqueda de solución del conflicto en el cual está sumergida Colombia, por eso la quiero presentar en este escrito, que es un recorrido por los documentos escritos por este papa

La verdad como valor integrador desde el pensamiento complejo de Santo Tomas de Aquino

Esta ponencia presenta es avance del Proyecto titulado COMPRENSIONES Y PRÁCTICAS DE LA FORMACIÓN INTEGRAL. Mi intención es presentar la verdad como el valor de gran importancia en la clave del pensamiento complejo de Santo Tomás de Aquino. Con esta propuesta se pretende presentar una lectura de Santo Tomas que reviva el papel de pensar de manera unificadora los problemas éticos, filosóficos, proyectos educativos, y aportes desde el pensamiento religioso para construir la persona íntegra, comprometida con los problemas de este mundo y abierta a la transcendencia la cual no es apartada de lo real

Pensar la sociedad bioética en un mundo globalizado

Nosotros como Escuela de Pensamiento ECO-sofía vemos esta Conferencia como la oportunidad de presentar nuestros avances de investigación en la propuesta de construcción de una sociedad libre y bioética. La Escuela ECO-sofía trata de configurar, teóricamente, una sociedad bioética como una alternativa de vida para la sociedad global frente a modelos y propuestas que se erigen sobre la base de visiones reduccionistas que provienen de fuentes mecanicistas cuya interpretación y comprensión de la vida se circunscribe a dar miradas sesgadas e incompletas de la persona y sociedad. A partir de la denominación ECO-sofia queremos expresar que el valor, el sentido y el horizonte de la vida están determinados por los saberes éticos, sociales y universales que constituyen, en nuestra comprensión, los pilares de la futura sociedad bioética para la cual el problema de la vida se centra y se enfoca en “pensar y comprender la vida desde la vida misma”. Desde nuestro horizonte teórico el mundo es integral, universal y obedece a las cosmovisiones que derivan del pensamiento complejo, en cuanto ese mundo no es algo homogéneo sino una heterogeneidad compleja y multidimensional que debe ser interpretado desde la racionalidad abierta para alcanzar una comprensión profunda de su dinámica y estructura, que permita generar los cambios y transformaciones requeridos a fin de construir una sociedad bioética que armonice los valores y principios que la determinan con la preocupación por la biodiversidad y la vida en todas sus manifestaciones. &nbsp

Artículo de gradoEn este artículo se pretende generar una descripción acerca del proceso de diseño urbano, arquitectónico y tecnológico para mejorar las problemáticas relacionadas con lo habitacional; especialmente desde la estructuración del barrio y la construcción de las viviendas, de acuerdo con esto se busca crear un perfeccionamiento a nivel barrial y así mismo brindar una mejor calidad de vida a los habitantes del barrio. Con base en análisis y visitas de campo, levantamiento de manzanas y viviendas, se llega a la pregunta ¿Cómomejoro lo construido?
