The Influence of Overloads on the Fatigue Life of Nylon Tire Cord
Laboratory studies were carried out to investigate the effect of single overloads on subsequent fatigue life of typical nylon tire cord. A simplified method was developed for fabricating end grips for tensile load ing of tire cords. Test results showed little influence of significantly large overloads on the subsequent fatigue life of nylon tire cord.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/68873/2/10.1177_152808377500400303.pd
Definition of Tire Properties Required for Landing System Analysis
The data bank constructed provided two basic advantages for the user of aircraft tire information. First, computerization of the data bank allowed mechanical property data to be stored, corrected, updated, and revised quickly and easily as more reliable tests and measurements were carried out. Secondly, the format of the book which can be printed from the computerized data bank can be easily adjusted to suit the needs of the users without the great expense normally associated with reprinting and editing books set by ordinary typography
Violation of Luttinger's Theorem in the Two-Dimensional t-J Model
We have calculated the high temperature series for the momentum distribution
function n_k of the 2D t-J model to 12th order in inverse temperature. By
extrapolating the series to T=0.2J we searched for a Fermi surface of the 2D
t-J model. We find that three criteria used for estimating the location of a
Fermi surface violate Luttinger's Theorem, implying the 2D t-J model does not
have an adiabatic connection to a non-interacting model.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Version with grayscale figures available upon

An augmented space recursion study of the electronic structure of rough epitaxial overlayers
In this communication we propose the use of the Augmented Space Recursion as
an ideal methodology for the study of electronic and magnetic structures of
rough surfaces, interfaces and overlayers. The method can take into account
roughness, short-ranged clustering effects, surface dilatation and
interdiffusion. We illustrate our method by an application of Fe overlayer on
Ag (100) surface.Comment: 22 pages, Latex, 6 postscript figure
The Hilbert space of Chern-Simons theory on the cylinder. A Loop Quantum Gravity approach
As a laboratory for loop quantum gravity, we consider the canonical
quantization of the three-dimensional Chern-Simons theory on a noncompact space
with the topology of a cylinder. Working within the loop quantization
formalism, we define at the quantum level the constraints appearing in the
canonical approach and completely solve them, thus constructing a gauge and
diffeomorphism invariant physical Hilbert space for the theory. This space
turns out to be infinite dimensional, but separable.Comment: Minor changes and some references added. Latex, 16 pages, 1 figur
ESMO recommendations on microsatellite instability testing for immunotherapy in cancer, and its relationship with PD-1/PD-L1 expression and tumour mutational burden: a systematic review-based approach
Abstract Background Cancers with a defective DNA mismatch repair (dMMR) system contain thousands of mutations most frequently located in monomorphic microsatellites and are thereby defined as having microsatellite instability (MSI). Therefore, MSI is a marker of dMMR. MSI/dMMR can be identified using immunohistochemistry to detect loss of MMR proteins and/or molecular tests to show microsatellite alterations. Together with tumour mutational burden (TMB) and PD-1/PD-L1 expression, it plays a role as a predictive biomarker for immunotherapy. Methods To define best practices to implement the detection of dMMR tumours in clinical practice, the ESMO Translational Research and Precision Medicine Working Group launched a collaborative project, based on a systematic review-approach, to generate consensus recommendations on the: (i) definitions related to the concept of MSI/dMMR; (ii) methods of MSI/dMMR testing and (iii) relationships between MSI, TMB and PD-1/PD-L1 expression. Results The MSI-related definitions, for which a consensus frame-work was used to establish definitions, included: 'microsatellites', 'MSI', 'DNA mismatch repair' and 'features of MSI tumour'. This consensus also provides recommendations on MSI testing; immunohistochemistry for the mismatch repair proteins MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 and PMS2 represents the first action to assess MSI/dMMR (consensus with strong agreement); the second method of MSI/dMMR testing is represented by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based assessment of microsatellite alterations using five microsatellite markers including at least BAT-25 and BAT-26 (strong agreement). Next-generation sequencing, coupling MSI and TMB analysis, may represent a decisive tool for selecting patients for immunotherapy, for common or rare cancers not belonging to the spectrum of Lynch syndrome (very strong agreement). The relationships between MSI, TMB and PD-1/PD-L1 expression are complex, and differ according to tumour types. Conclusions This ESMO initiative is a response to the urgent questions raised by the growing success of immunotherapy and provides also important insights on the relationships between MSI, TMB and PD-1/PD-L1
Stripes and the t-J model
We investigate the two-dimensional t-J model at a hole doping of x = 1/8 and
J/t = 0.35 with exact diagonalization. The low-energy states are uniform (not
striped). We find numerous excited states with charge density wave structures,
which may be interpreted as striped phases. Some of these are consistent with
neutron scattering data on the cuprates and nickelates.Comment: 4 pages; 4 eps figures included in text; Revte
SPIN AND CHARGE MODES OF THE t-J LADDER
The spin and charge excitations of the t--J ladder are studied by exact
diagonalization techniques for several electron densities. The various modes
are classified according to their spin (singlet or triplet excitations) and
their parity under a reflection with respect to the symmetry axis along the
chains and a finite size scaling of the related gaps is performed. At low
doping, formation of hole pairs leads to a spin gap for all ratios. This
phase is characterized by (at least) one vanishing energy mode {\it only} in
the charge bonding channel when consistent with the
existence of superconducting pairing correlations. At larger doping the spin
gap disappears. Although the anti-bonding modes remain gapped, low energy
and spin and charge bonding modes are found
consistent with a single band Luttinger scenario. At sufficient low electron
density and above a critical value of J/t we also expect another phase of
electron pairs with gapped spin excitations.Comment: 4 pages, 11 figs. included in a uuencoded compressed file
