Pressure external root resorption (PERR) is a loss of dental root tissues (dentine and cementum) that begin in the periodontal area caused by a impacted teeth. We show three cases with differents clinical situations and therapeutical aspects. Pulpal injurie and difficulty in the post-endodontic cavity acces are characteristiques of these processes. Depending on the level of tissue destruction we discusse the therapeutical orientation in each case. Some treatments like class V type 5 cavities or fillings with cermet glass-ionomer in the more atipical situations (generally after an endodontic treatment) are a good choice in these [email protected] [email protected]

<p align="justify">Whole-body vibration (WBV) has improved as a variety of exercises, so it is necessary know muscles responses to the vibration stimulus. The aim of this work was to study and to compare the change in muscle activation in the lumbar area and lower body between the whole-body vibration exercise and classic strength exercises in isometric squat.23 subjects were exposed to six different loads in one of each exercise mode: vibration or classic strength. Both exercises were performed at 30º and 60º semi-squat position. Muscle activity of the lower body and lumbar area was measured using surface electromyography activity (EMG).The results showed that the response of lumbar area in WBV was lower than in the classic strength exercise at the same value of lower body sEMG. Lumbar sEMG was highest for the classic exercise. (p<0,05)</p

In the present study, the optimal design of a high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) that will be used to power an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a high altitude mission is performed. The use of PEMFCs for service ceiling above 10 km implies overcoming a number of problems caused by the harsh environmental conditions. Among them, new strategies to manage the heat generated by electrochemical reactions are needed. The maximum power required by the UAV was determined solving the aerodynamic problem, and the design of the lightweight HT-PEMFC, including its cooling system, was optimized. To perform the numerical solution of the heat transfer problem, a computational code was implemented using the EES software. The decisions adopted resulted in a 40-cells stack with an electric power above 1 kW and a weight around 3.65 kg. Besides, it is demonstrated that, for the configuration considered in the study, a passive cooling system without any additional fan system can be used to maintain the stack temperature in 160 °C

Dead-time optimization to increase secure distance range in prepare and measure quantum key distribution protocols

Afterpulsing is a factor limiting the distance over which discrete-variable quantum key distribution systems are secure, and a common feature in single-photon detectors. The relevance of this phenomenon stems from its stochastic, self-interacting nature and the fact that its rate rises with the number of avalanche events, which increases the quantum bit error rate. Here we introduce an effective analytic model, including dead-time and afterpulsing corrections, where afterpulsing correction depends on dead-time value. This model is useful to evaluate the performance of prepare and measure quantum key distribution protocols (standard and decoy versions) that use gated single photon detectors. The model provides an expression to numerically optimize the secret key rate over the full distance range for secure communication, enabling in this way the calculation of quantum bit error rate and secure key rate. In the conventional procedure, the dead-time value is fixed regardless of distance, limiting the distance range of the channel due to remaining afterpulsing effects, which are more relevant at higher operating frequencies. Here we demonstrate that optimizing the dead-time values increases the distance range of the channel to share secret keys.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figure

Anomalous lifetime distributions and topological traps in ordering dynamics

We address the role of community structure of an interaction network in ordering dynamics, as well as associated forms of metastability. We consider the voter and AB model dynamics in a network model which mimics social interactions. The AB model includes an intermediate state between the two excluding options of the voter model. For the voter model we find dynamical metastable disordered states with a characteristic mean lifetime. However, for the AB dynamics we find a power law distribution of the lifetime of metastable states, so that the mean lifetime is not representative of the dynamics. These trapped metastable states, which can order at all time scales, originate in the mesoscopic network structure.Comment: 7 pages; 6 figure

The monitoring of the morphological changes of a sand bar in the beach Karraspio (Lekeitio, Biscay) is presented. The annual coastal dynamics and the sand deposition were affected by several coastal storms given in 2011 that broke the Lazunarri dike in several parts. The dike were constructed in the 19th century to protect the sea port from the Lea River's sediment deposition and modified the estuary forcing the river to flow into the eastern side of the San Nicolas island. A Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) was used to register the morphological response of a sand bar to the changes in the river mouth and coastal dynamics. The monitoring was conducted in four fieldwork campaigns in October 2012, June 2013, October 2013 and October 2014. The preliminary results showed the migration sand-bar axis to the east and the erosion of the area close to the dike

BACKGROUND: The diagnostic evaluation of inherited platelet disorders (IPDs) is complicated and time-consuming, resulting in a relevant number of undiagnosed and incorrectly classified patients. In order to evaluate the spectrum of IPDs in individuals with clinical suspicion of these disorders, and to provide a diagnostic tool to centers not having access to specific platelets studies, we established the project "Functional and Molecular Characterization of Patients with Inherited Platelet Disorders" under the scientific sponsorship of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. PATIENTS/METHODS: Subjects were patients from a prospective cohort of individuals referred for clinical suspicion of IPDs as well as healthy controls. Functional studies included light transmission aggregation, flow cytometry, and when indicated, Western-blot analysis of platelet glycoproteins, and clot retraction analysis. Genetic analysis was mainly performed by sequencing of coding regions and proximal regulatory regions of the genes of interest. RESULTS: Of the 70 cases referred for study, we functionally and molecularly characterized 12 patients with Glanzmann Thrombasthenia, 8 patients with Bernard Soulier syndrome, and 8 with other forms of IPDs. Twelve novel mutations were identified among these patients. The systematic study of patients revealed that almost one-third of patients had been previously misdiagnosed. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides a global picture of the current limitations and access to the diagnosis of IPDs, identifies and confirms new genetic variants that cause these disorders, and emphasizes the need of creating reference centers that can help health care providers in the recognition of these defects
