Self-dual Chern-Simons solitons in noncommutative space

    Get PDF
We construct exact soliton solutions to the Chern-Simons-Higgs system in noncommutative space, for non-relativistic and relativistic models. In both cases we find regular vortex-like solutions to the BPS equations which approach the ordinary selfdual non-topological and topological solitons when the noncommutative parameter θ\theta goes to zero.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figure

    Resonant Higgs boson pair production in the hhbbˉ  WWbbˉ+ννˉhh\rightarrow b\bar{b} \; WW \rightarrow b\bar{b} \ell^+ \nu \ell^- \bar\nu decay channel

Adding a scalar singlet provides one of the simplest extensions of the Standard Model. In this work we briefly review the latest constraints on the mass and mixing of the new Higgs boson and study its production and decay at the LHC. We mainly focus on double Higgs production in the hhbbˉWWbbˉ+ννˉhh \rightarrow b \bar{b} WW \rightarrow b \bar{b} \ell^+ \nu \ell^- \bar{\nu} decay channel. This decay is found to be efficient in a region of masses of the heavy Higgs boson of 260 - 500 GeV, so it is complementary to the 4bb channel, more efficient for Higgs bosons having masses greater than 500 GeV. We analyse this di-leptonic decay channel in detail using kinematic variables such as MT2M_{\rm T2} and the MT2M_{\rm T2}-assisted on-shell reconstruction of invisible momenta. Using proper cuts, a significance of \sim 3σ\sigma for 3000 fb1^{-1} can be achieved at the 14 TeV LHC for mHm_H = 260 - 400 GeV if the mixing is close to its present limit and BR(Hhh)1{\rm BR}(H \rightarrow hh) \approx 1. Smaller mixing values would require combining various decay channels in order to reach a similar significance. The complementarity among Hhh H \rightarrow hh, HZZ H \rightarrow ZZ and HWW H \rightarrow WW channels is studied for arbitrary BR(Hhh){\rm BR}(H \rightarrow hh) values.Comment: 36 pages, 13 figure

New natural gas pipeline benefits Europe and Africa

    Get PDF
European countries have agreed to start filling up their natural gas gap, with the new natural gas pipeline from Africa. Nigeria and Morocco agreed to develop this pipeline in 2016, but after the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia war, things have speeded up. After the economical punishments Europe imposed on Russia, Russia decided to increase the price of the natural gas exported to Europe and decrease the amount of gas. Most European countries have a big dependency on Russia\u27s natural gas, countries like Germany import 50% of their natural gas from Russia. Since winter is coming up, European countries are dealing with having to go back and use carbon as an energy source or look for ways to import natural gas from different countries. And this project seems like the best option for this situation

The Next Vaccine Generation Against Malaria: Structurally Modulated Plasmodium Antigens

Challenges for obtaining more effective malaria vaccines depend on precise selection of antigenic motifs and understanding the complexity of Plasmodium spp. life cycle. Naturally expressed antigens are characterized for being weak immunogenic when tested as vaccine components, thus these have to be strategically modified to render them immunogenic. A molecular clue in this pursuit is provided by the chemical peptide-bond processing by peptidases, which follows a multistep pathway including ephemeral high energy molecular complexes known as transition states. Thus, we have proposed non-natural peptide-bond isosteres as transition states mimetics, and therefore, stabilizing these high-energy states with site-directed designed immuno-mimetics have demonstrated being a rational approach for stimulating antibody populations harboring multiple functional capacities. Therefore, peptide-bond substitutes constitute a coherent pathway towards obtaining selected immuno-active compounds from specific plasmodial molecular objectives. Chemical strategies for synthesizing peptido-mimetics and antimalarial selected trials lead us to assess a number of peptide-bond substitutes for obtaining immuno-active and structurally defined molecules. Plasmodium antigens expressed on merozoite, sporozoite and gametocyte stages have been selected as targets and subsequently modified based on the presence of either a high-binding motif or a potential HLA-reading frame. This new family of immuno-mimetics is and efficient neutralizing antibody inducers when tested in in vitro and in vivo experiments, thus representing a new generation of malaria vaccine components

Estimation of productivity change of NBA teams from 2006-07 to 2012-13 seasons

"... acknowledgements at FiT Publishing"The aim of this work is to evaluate the productivity change of the NBA teams during the last seven seasons (from 2006-07 to 2012-13). Within that period of time, a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of the National Basketball Association (NBA) was ratified before season 2011-12, ending a 161-day lockout. The Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) has been used to measure the total factor productivity, while an input-oriented Network DEA approach is used to compute the distance of each observation to the corresponding frontier. The results reveal that there has been technological progress for the last few seasons, excluding that of the 2011 lockout, and an increasing efficiency change. This means that best practices are improving and that most teams have been reducing their payrolls to catch up with these practices, thus backing up the owners’ proposal to reduce players’ income. Also regression results show that changes in the number of wins are more dependent upon scale efficiency change than upon budget or efficiency changes
