Producción CientíficaA new set of catalytic materials having a pyrrolidine moiety confined in microporous organic polymer networks (POPs) has been attained. These catalytic polymers have been prepared by a straightforward synthesis starting from microporous polymer networks made from isatin (or a mixture of isatin and trifluoroacetophenone) and 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene. The polymers efficiently catalyzed the formation of nitrones under very mild and sustainable conditions using green solvents through an iminium ion activation mechanism. The reactions are scalable, and polymers are easily recycled. Special attention has been paid to understanding all the factors that could affect the efficiency of the confined catalysts. The electronic and conformational characteristics of the pyrrolidine moiety attached to the porous polymers, as well as other features that could affect the transport through the network, such as molecular volume and shape of reactants and products, and even hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties, have been systematically evaluated. In addition, the heterogeneous polymers are also useful in Cdouble bondC bond formation through both iminium ion and enamine activation.

Los ítems o factores más relevantes en donde se debería realizar acciones de mejora son: trabajar ocho horas diarias como máximo, solicitar a la empresa donde labora permisos para realizar trabajos en el domicilio, requerir a la empresa donde labora beneficios adicionales a los obligados por leyThis research aims to describe how executive women who work in private companies from Lima Metropolitan Area tend to life-work balance and how this tendency is presented in the different areas of women’s life This is a quantitative, descriptive and non-experimental transactional research done in this study which uses the survey instrument, adapted from the study of life-work balance of women managers from Caracas that was written by Salgado (2011) and it was designed to measure nine dimensions of women´s life. These dimensions will give information about the tendency to achieve life-work balance of executive women. The study was applied in a sample of 227 executive women of Lima. This also applied to women who hold high-ranking posts, senior posts or department heads form private enterprises. The results or research conclude that executive women tend to balance in the physical, familiar and conciliation dimensions. The strategies that use the majority of executives to achieve a tendency into balance are: to assist to medical controls, home administration, to get support from a family member or a third person in order to take care their children or depended people, to give time in order to take care the children and to manage the access to free days because family reasons. However, this study also identified that in the labour and conciliatory policies the tendency of balance can´t be determined. The more relevant items or factors in which improvements must be done are: to work eight hours per day, to ask permissions to the companies in order to work more frequently at home, to require to the companies additional employment benefits besides the obligations established in corporate lawTesi

Dairy product consumption and changes in cognitive performance: two-year analysis of the PREDIMED-Plus Cohort

Scope: Dairy consumption has been suggested to impact cognition; however, evidence is limited and inconsistent. This study aims to longitudinally assess the association between dairy consumption with cognitive changes in an older Spanish population at high cardiovascular disease risk. Methods and results: Four thousand six hundred sixty eight participants aged 55–75 years, completed a validated food frequency questionnaire at baseline and a neuropsychological battery of tests at baseline and 2-year follow-up. Multivariable linear regression models are used, scaled by 100 (i.e., the units of β correspond to 1 SD/100), to assess associations between baseline tertile daily consumption and 2-year changes in cognitive performance. Participants in the highest tertile of total milk and whole-fat milk consumption have a greater decline in global cognitive function (β: –4.71, 95% CI: –8.74 to –0.69, p-trend = 0.020 and β: –6.64, 95% CI: –10.81 to –2.47, p-trend = 0.002, respectively) compared to those in the lowest tertile. No associations are observed between low fat milk, yogurt, cheese or fermented dairy consumption, and changes in cognitive performance. Conclusion:Results suggest there are no clear prospective associations between consumption of most commonly consumed dairy products and cognition, although there may be an association with a greater rate of cognitive decline over a 2-year period in older adults at high cardiovascular disease risk for whole-fat milk

Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2

The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, individuals with clonal mosaic events (clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations and/or loss of chromosome Y) showed an increased risk of COVID-19 lethality

Tesi

CLIL in higher education: Student-professor perspectives on learning in full english business programs at Universidad Europea de Madrid

    No full text
Higher education is significantly impacted by second language instruction in traditional content courses within degree programs worldwide, influenced largely by forces of globalization and internationalization, as well as, in this study’s case, European social, economic, and political integration policy. This phenomenon offers immense challenges and unique opportunities to all stakeholders in the education process, foremost of which would include both students and professors. One of the most common methodologies emerging to facilitate this educational change is Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). The Case Study presented uses a mixed-methods exploratory research design to consider the impact of the CLIL methodology in a Full English Business degree program at Universidad Europea de Madrid. The results point to important future methodological considerations that can be incorporated into the program design as well as the professional development of CLIL professors.SIN FINANCIACIÓNNo data 2015UE
