    Analyse de "Time-Lapse" stéréo pour la mesure de déformation 3D, application au suivi du glacier d'Argentière

    National audienceL'observation de la Terre par des systèmes d'acquisition d'images permet le suivi des évolutions temporelles d'objets tels que les glaciers, les glissements de terrain, les volcans... Différentes techniques d'observation existent dont la photogrammétrie terrestre qui est en plein essor. Cet article présente une chaîne de traitement adaptée au suivi d'objets géophysiques dans des conditions terrain peu favorables à la photogrammétrie. Les premières étapes sont illustrées sur des séries temporelles d'images stéréoscopiques acquises par deux appareils photo automatiques installés sur la rive droite du glacier d'Argentière afin de reconstruire le relief et mesurer son déplacement en 3D. Les premiers résultats sont validés à travers une expérimentation menée en collaboration avec l'IGN à l'automne 2013

    Preventing Corrosion of Aluminum Metal with Nanometer-Thick Films of Al2O3 Capped with TiO2 for Ultraviolet Plasmonics

    Extending plasmonics into the ultraviolet range imposes the use of aluminum to achieve the best optical performance. However, water corrosion is a major limiting issue for UV aluminum plasmonics, as this phenomenon occurs significantly faster in presence of UV light, even at low laser powers of a few microwatts. Here we assess the performance of nanometer-thick layers of various metal oxides deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) on top of aluminum nanoapertures to protect the metal against UV photocorrosion. The combination of a 5 nm Al2O3 layer covered by a 5 nm TiO2 capping provides the best resistance performance, while a single 10 nm layer of SiO2 or HfO2 is a good alternative. We also report the influence of the laser wavelength, the laser operation mode and the pH of the solution. Properly choosing these conditions significantly extends the range of optical powers for which the aluminum nanostructures can be used. As application, we demonstrate the label-free detection of streptavidin proteins with improved signal to noise ratio. Our approach is also beneficial to promote the long-term stability of the aluminum nanostructures. Finding the appropriate nanoscale protection against aluminum corrosion is the key to enable the development of UV plasmonic applications in chemistry and biology

    High rate, fast timing Glass RPC for the high η\eta CMS muon detectors

    The HL-LHC phase is designed to increase by an order of magnitude the amount of data to be collected by the LHC experiments. To achieve this goal in a reasonable time scale the instantaneous luminosity would also increase by an order of magnitude up to 610346 \cdot 10^{34} cm2^{-2}s1^{-1}. The region of the forward muon spectrometer (η>1.6|\eta| > 1.6) is not equipped with RPC stations. The increase of the expected particles rate up to 2 kHz/cm2^2 ( including a safety factor 3 ) motivates the installation of RPC chambers to guarantee redundancy with the CSC chambers already present. The actual RPC technology of CMS cannot sustain the expected background level. A new generation Glass-RPC (GRPC) using low resistivity glass (LR) is proposed to equip at least the two most far away of the four high eta muon stations of CMS.     An Early Cretaceous vertebrate assemblage from the Cabao Formation of NW Libya

    Fossil vertebrates from the Cabao Formation discovered in the area of Nalut in northwestern Libya include the hybodont shark Priohybodus, the crocodilian Sarcosuchus, an abelisaurid, a baryonichine spinosaurid and a large sauropod with spatulate teeth. The Cabao Formation may be Hauterivian to Barremian in age, although an earlier Berriasian to Valanginian age cannot be excluded. Its dinosaur assemblage is reminiscent of that of the El Rhaz and Tiouraren formations of Niger and strongly differs from both the Cenomanian assemblages of Morocco and Egypt and the Late Aptian to Albian fauna of Tunisia.     International audienceThis paper highlights the contribution of TerraSAR-X (TSX) High Resolution (HR) images for temperate glacier monitoring. A series of 14 images have been acquired since October 2007 on the Mont-Blanc test area. This area involves well-known temperate glaciers which have been monitored and instrumented ("stick" for annual displacement/ablation, GPS, cavitometer for basal displacement...) for more than 50 years. The combined use of in-situ measurements and multi-temporal images allows to improve the potential of HR SAR measurements. Interpretation of HR images, investigation of interferometric and correlation methods, and the first glacier displacement results are presented

    High Risk of Acute Kidney Failure in Kidney Transplant Recipients Early after Bariatric Surgery

    Bariatric surgery is routinely proposed to patients suffering from obesity including kidney transplant recipients. In this specific population, bariatric surgery has a positive impact in long-term outcomes in terms of patient and graft survival. We report here the cases of 4 patients with five post-kidney transplantation bariatric surgeries who experimented acute renal injury early after surgery. Creatinine rising occurred between day 14 and day 20 after surgery. In all cases, it was due to dehydration leading to a pre-renal acute renal failure. The specific care of kidney transplanted patients is discussed: single kidney associated with pre-existing altered kidney function associated with concomitant use of nephrotoxic drugs. Specific education intervention before surgery associated with careful early management of hydration after surgery is mandatory for these patients

    Natural mutations in the sensor kinase of the PhoPR two-component regulatory system modulate virulence of ancestor-like tuberculosis bacilli

    The molecular factors and genetic adaptations that contributed to the emergence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) from an environmental Mycobacterium canettii-like ancestor, remain poorly investigated. In MTB, the PhoPR two-component regulatory system controls production and secretion of proteins and lipid virulence effectors. Here, we describe that several mutations, present in phoR of M. canettii relative to MTB, impact the expression of the PhoP regulon and the pathogenicity of the strains. First, we establish a molecular model of PhoR and show that some substitutions found in PhoR of M. canettii are likely to impact the structure and activity of this protein. Second, we show that STB-K, the most attenuated available M. canettii strain, displays lower expression of PhoP-induced genes than MTB. Third, we demonstrate that genetic swapping of the phoPR allele from STB-K with the ortholog from MTB H37Rv enhances expression of PhoP-controlled functions and the capacities of the recombinant strain to colonize human macrophages, the MTB target cells, as well as to cause disease in several mouse infection models. Fourth, we extended these observations to other M. canettii strains and confirm that PhoP-controlled functions are expressed at lower levels in most M. canettii strains than in M. tuberculosis. Our findings suggest that distinct PhoR variants have been selected during the evolution of tuberculosis bacilli, contributing to higher pathogenicity and persistence of MTB in the mammalian host
