The calcareous nannofossils and magnetostratigraphic results from the Upper Tithonian-Berriasian of Feodosiya region (Eastern Crimea)
This article is concerned with nannofossil study of Tithonian-Berriasian sediments of Eastern Crimea. The NJT 16, NJT 17a, NJT 17b, NKT, and NK 1 nannofossil zones were determined. The occurrence of Nannoconus kamptneri minor, one of the potential marker-types of the Tithonian-Berriasian boundary (the base of the NKT Zone) of the Tethyan sequence in the Feodosiyan section is assigned here to the Pseudosubplanites grandis ammonite Subzone and the magnetic Chron M18n. The base of the NKT Zone is closer to the Grandis Subzone base than to the base of the Jacobi Subzone. Contradictions in the interpretation of magnetic chrons obtained by the present authors (Arkadiev et al. 2018) and by Bakhmutov et al. (2018) might be caused by mistakes admitted in the latter work on the compiled section.Fil: Arkadiev, V.. Saint Petersburg State University; RusiaFil: Lescano, Marina Aurora. Supersymmetric Double Field Theory and the generalized Kerr-Schild Ansatz
We construct the supersymmetric extension of the
generalized Kerr-Schild ansatz in the flux formulation of Double Field Theory.
We show that this ansatz is compatible with supersymmetry as
long as it is not written in terms of generalized null vectors. Supersymmetric
consistency is obtained through a set of conditions that imply linearity of the
generalized gravitino perturbation and unrestricted perturbations of the
generalized background dilaton and dilatino. As a final step we parametrize the
previous theory in terms of the field content of the low energy effective
-dimensional heterotic supergravity and we find that the perturbation of
the -dimensional vielbein, Kalb-Ramond field and gravitino can be written
in terms of a pair of null vectors, as expected.Comment: 34 pages. We include the gauge sector and applications considering
gaugino condensatio
Higher-derivative Heterotic Double Field Theory and Classical Double Copy
The generalized Kerr-Schild ansatz (GKSA) is a powerful tool for constructing
exact solutions in Double Field Theory (DFT). In this paper we focus in the
heterotic formulation of DFT, considering up to four-derivative terms in the
action principle, while the field content is perturbed by the GKSA. We study
the inclusion of the generalized version of the Green-Schwarz mechanism to this
setup, in order to reproduce the low energy effective heterotic supergravity
upon parametrization. This formalism reproduces higher-derivative heterotic
background solutions where the metric tensor and Kalb-Ramond field are
perturbed by a pair of null vectors. Next we study higher-derivative
contributions to the classical double copy structure. After a suitable
identification of the null vectors with a pair of gauge fields, the
dynamics is given by a pair of Maxwell equations plus higher derivative
corrections in agreement with the KLT relation.Comment: V2 includes: EOM's for fundamental fields (Sec. 4), explicit
construction of the spin-connection (Sec. 5) and we relax the ortogonality
condition for the null vectors (Sec. 6). We thank our anonymous JHEP referee

The Evolution of Mentorship Capacity Development in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: Case Studies from Peru, Kenya, India, and Mozambique.
Following the Fogarty International Center-supported "Mentoring the Mentors" workshops in South America, Africa, and Asia, approaches and guidelines for mentorship at institutions within these low- and middle-income country (LMIC) contexts, appropriate for the respective regional resources and culture, were implemented. Through the presentation of case studies from these three geographic regions, this article illustrates the institutional mentorship infrastructure before the workshop and the identified gaps used to implement strategies to build mentorship capacity at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (Peru), Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kenya), Saint John's Research Institute (India), and Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique). These case studies illustrate three findings: first, that mentorship programs in LMICs have made uneven progress, and institutions with existing programs have exhibited greater advancement to their mentoring capacity than institutions without formal programs before the workshops. Second, mentoring needs assessments help garner the support of institutional leadership and create local ownership. Third, developing a culture of mentorship that includes group mentoring activities at LMIC institutions can help overcome the shortage of trained mentors. Regardless of the stage of mentoring programs, LMIC institutions can work toward developing sustainable, culturally effective mentorship models that further the partnership of early career scientists and global health
Native rodent species are unlikely sources of infection for Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis along the Transoceanic Highway in Madre de Dios, Peru.
An estimated 2.3 million disability-adjusted life years are lost globally from leishmaniasis. In Peru's Amazon region, the department of Madre de Dios (MDD) rises above the rest of the country in terms of the annual incidence rates of human leishmaniasis. Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis is the species most frequently responsible for the form of disease that results in tissue destruction of the nose and mouth. However, essentially nothing is known regarding the reservoirs of this vector-borne, zoonotic parasite in MDD. Wild rodents have been suspected, or proven, to be reservoirs of several Leishmania spp. in various ecosystems and countries. Additionally, people who live or work in forested terrain, especially those who are not regionally local and whose immune systems are thus naïve to the parasite, are at most risk for contracting L. (V.) braziliensis. Hence, the objective of this study was to collect tissues from wild rodents captured at several study sites along the Amazonian segment of the newly constructed Transoceanic Highway and to use molecular laboratory techniques to analyze samples for the presence of Leishmania parasites. Liver tissues were tested via polymerase chain reaction from a total of 217 rodents; bone marrow and skin biopsies (ear and tail) were also tested from a subset of these same animals. The most numerous rodent species captured and tested were Oligoryzomys microtis (40.7%), Hylaeamys perenensis (15.7%), and Proechimys spp. (12%). All samples were negative for Leishmania, implying that although incidental infections may occur, these abundant rodent species are unlikely to serve as primary reservoirs of L. (V.) braziliensis along the Transoceanic Highway in MDD. Therefore, although these rodent species may persist and even thrive in moderately altered landscapes, we did not find any evidence to suggest they pose a risk for L. (V.) braziliensis transmission to human inhabitants in this highly prevalent region
Supersymmetry, T-duality and heterotic α′-corrections
Higher-derivative interactions and transformation rules of the fields in the effective field theories of the massless string states are strongly constrained by space-time symmetries and dualities. Here we use an exact formulation of ten dimensional N = 1 supergravity coupled to Yang-Mills with manifest T-duality symmetry to construct the first order α′-corrections of the heterotic string effective action. The theory contains a supersymmetric and T-duality covariant generalization of the Green-Schwarz mechanism that determines the modifications to the leading order supersymmetry transformation rules of the fields. We compute the resulting field-dependent deformations of the coefficients in the supersymmetry algebra and construct the invariant action, with up to and including four-derivative terms of all the massless bosonic and fermionic fields of the heterotic string spectrum.Fil: Lescano, Eric Yair.
Vermiculite deposits with impurities such as quartz and amphiboles are currently in operation in the province of Córdoba (Argentina). Inhalation of amphiboles during the production and exploitation process can cause serious illnesses, including mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer. These minerals were identified as tremolite–ferrocatinolite series due to their optical properties. They belong to the asbestos group which is banned for all uses. Determination of the crystals morphology is very important for the mineralogical characterization because the asbestiform habits generate greater impact on the human health than the prismatic habits and cleavage fragments. However, many studies recognize that these minerals may break and change their habits generating asbestiform morphology of crystals when they are treated. The objective of this study is to characterize amphiboles recognized as impurities in vermiculite deposits and to study the morphology related to environmental hazards and their impact on the human health
