Structural Principles in Emanuele Severino’s Thought

Get PDF
The essay focuses especially on the three structural principles that sustain the entire proceeding of Severino’s thought and that refer to and imply one another. The first one is the principle of non-contradiction, in Parmenides’ interpretation and not in the Aristotelian interpretation. The second one is given by the statement, of Hegelian and Gentilian origin, according to which every meaning – that is, every being as a signifier – necessarily implies the totality in its concrete and exhaustive content, and vice versa. The third one requires that every being in the earth, which arrives at the horizon of the appearing, is something that must always be overstepped by another being, and so on endlessly

La Confraternita della Comunità Serbo-Ortodossa di Trieste

Get PDF
Ulteriori modifiche sono state apportate negli am1i successivi.

Lower Mass Bounds on FIMP Dark Matter Produced via Freeze-In

Feebly Interacting Massive Particles (FIMPs) are dark matter candidates that never thermalize in the early universe and whose production takes place via decays and/or scatterings of thermal bath particles. If FIMPs interactions with the thermal bath are renormalizable, a scenario which is known as freeze-in, production is most efficient at temperatures around the mass of the bath particles and insensitive to unknown physics at high temperatures. Working in a model-independent fashion, we consider three different production mechanisms: two-body decays, three-body decays, and binary collisions. We compute the FIMP phase space distribution and matter power spectrum, and we investigate the suppression of cosmological structures at small scales. Our results are lower bounds on the FIMP mass. Finally, we study how to relax these constraints in scenarios where FIMPs provide a sub-dominant dark matter component.Comment: 50 pages, 14 figures, 3 tables; version published in JCA

The Theory of Planned Behavior Applied to Voting in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election

Get PDF
The current study was designed to predict the voting intentions and behaviors of college students in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB; Ajzen,1985). TPB states that the intent to perform a behavior follows from attitudes towards the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived control in performing the behavior. Previous research has applied TPB to contexts such as health behaviors (e.g., physical activity, Motalebi, et al., 2014; condom use, Asare, 2015). The current study aims to apply TPB to intentions to vote in college students at a mid-sized private university. Participants will report through an online survey their perceived behavioral control in terms of their ability to vote, their attitudes towards the importance of voting, and the extent to which close others believe in the importance of voting. A follow up survey will be administered after the November 3, 2020 election to investigate actual voting behavior. The results will provide insights into the factors that predict voting intentions and behaviors in college-aged individuals which can be useful in designing interventions to improve voter participation among young people. Hidden effects of bank recapitalizations

Get PDF
Given the importance of capital regulation in the banking industry, how and why a bank's behavior reacts to a recapitalization has profound consequences. To this end, we investigate the effects of 306 seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) conducted by listed European banks between 2002 and 2014. We use propensity score matching and find that SEOs lead to asset expansion as opposed to any deleveraging. Further, we find a decrease in lending in the short-term followed by a subsequent increase, a reduction in profitability, and an increase in systemic risk. Regulators might not have fully considered this last negative externality when they imposed the tougher Basel III capital requirements. The effects of SEOs strongly depend on the reasons behind the recapitalizations

Ultrasound and multidetector computed tomography of mandibular salivary gland adenocarcinoma in two dogs

Get PDF
Malignant tumors of the salivary glands are rare in dogs, with adenocarcinoma being the most represented. Parotid and mandibular glands are most commonly affected in dogs. Because of local invasivity and high metastatic potential, preoperative imaging evaluation of mandibular region and tumoral staging is essential along with biopsy sampling. The present manuscript describes the ultrasound and computed tomographic imaging findings of mandibular gland adenocarcinoma in two dogs and discusses their clinical utility. Keywords: Computed tomography, Dog, Salivary gland tumor, Ultrasound

strategic alliances between japanese western companies a win win or win lose relationship the case of the automobile industry

Inter-firm cooperative arrangements involving flows and linkages that use resources and/or governance structures from autonomous firms based in different countries help in accomplishing both the individual objectives and the collective ones. Through collaboration with foreign partners, firms are able to exploit new market opportunities, minimise investment risks, set up more efficient and effective distribution channels or create products, product features, brands or services and, above all, absorb key capabilities and technologies from the partner. Literature on strategic alliances raised the issue on an alleged appropriation of benefits by Japanese firms when participating in strategic alliances. Japanese companies have experienced higher shareholders' returns in strategic alliances with Western partners, both in the short term and in the medium one. The choice of Japanese and Western companies calls for a deeper understanding of the drivers of the alliances and the determinants of value creation without misleading influences deriving from different business environments. This paper analyzes the wealth distribution taking into account the reaction of the market to the alliance as an indicator of a successful strategy. It explores the case of the automobile industry, which is characterised by a high use of inter-firm cooperation, such as strategic alliances and mergers & acquisitions, to effectively compete in the global market and face the global crisis
