Reply to "Comment on Renormalization group picture of the Lifshitz critical behaviors"

We reply to a recent comment by Diehl and Shpot (cond-mat/0305131) criticizing a new approach to the Lifshitz critical behavior just presented (M. M. Leite Phys. Rev. B 67, 104415(2003)). We show that this approach is free of inconsistencies in the ultraviolet regime. We recall that the orthogonal approximation employed to solve arbitrary loop diagrams worked out at the criticized paper even at three-loop level is consistent with homogeneity for arbitrary loop momenta. We show that the criticism is incorrect.Comment: RevTex, 6 page

Objective: to analyze narratives about the experience of hope of families in the context of pediatric chronic illness. Method: a narrative research using Family Systems Nursing as a conceptual framework. Three families of children and adolescents diagnosed with complex chronic illness participated in this study, totaling 10 participants. Data collection was developed using family photo-elicitation interviews. Family narratives were constructed and analyzed according to inductive thematic analysis with theoretical data triangulation. Results: the analytical theme – Waves of Family Hope in the Context of Pediatric Chronic Illness – is composed of four different types of hope: uncertain hope, caring hope, latent hope, and expectant hope. Movement through these hopes generates a driving energy and depends on a number of factors: support, information, searching for normality, and thoughts and comparisons. Conclusion: the results highlight the interaction and reciprocities of the members of the family unit, and the dynamics of hope, and illustrate the different types of hope and the factors that influence them. This study highlights the experience of hope as a family resource rather than just an individual resource, and supports health professionals in the planning of family care considering hope as an essential and dynamic family resource. © 2021 Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem. This study was financed in part by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) – Finance Code 001, and by Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq), Brazil

A infecção isolada causada por Ancylostoma sp. foi observada em maior porcentagem, seguida da parasitose múltipla pela associação Ancylostoma sp./Toxocara sp. Enteroparasites in dogs (Canis familiaris) from Curitiba, Paraná, Brasil Abstract The present study demonstrates the multiple and isolated infections caused by enteroparasites in dogs belonged to students of four schools from Curitiba, PR, by examination of 264 fecal samples, collected from April to July, 2000, and analyzed by the WILLIS (1921) technique. The isolated infection by Ancylostoma sp. was the highest percentage observed, while Ancylostoma sp. and Toxocara sp. were the multiple parasites most frequently found

The brain decade in debate: II. Panic or anxiety? From animal models to a neurobiological basis

    Get PDF
This article is a transcription of an electronic symposium sponsored by the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC). Invited researchers from the European Union, North America and Brazil discussed two issues on anxiety, namely whether panic is a very intense anxiety or something else, and what aspects of clinical anxiety are reproduced by animal models. Concerning the first issue, most participants agreed that generalized anxiety and panic disorder are different on the basis of clinical manifestations, drug response and animal models. Also, underlying brain structures, neurotransmitter modulation and hormonal changes seem to involve important differences. It is also common knowledge that existing animal models generate different types of fear/anxiety. A challenge for future research is to establish a good correlation between animal models and nosological classification.

Anatomopathologic lesions found in Dioctophyma renale (Goeze, 1782) infections in domestic dogs (Canis familiaris, LINNAEUS, 1758 Abstract The authors describe the anatomopathologic lesions of eleven cases of parasitism by Dioctophyma renale (Goeze, 1782), in Curitiba (PR, Brazil), found among 1960 necropsies carried out between 1979 and 2004 in dogs

Susceptibility amplitude ratio for generic competing systems

We calculate the susceptibility amplitude ratio near a generic higher character Lifshitz point up to one-loop order. We employ a renormalization group treatment with LL independent scaling transformations associated to the various inequivalent subspaces in the anisotropic case in order to compute the ratio above and below the critical temperature and demonstrate its universality. Furthermore, the isotropic results with only one type of competition axes have also been shown to be universal. We describe how the simpler situations of mm-axial Lifshitz points as well as ordinary (noncompeting) systems can be retrieved from the present framework.Comment: 20 pages, no figure

Surface critical exponents at a uniaxial Lifshitz point

Using Monte Carlo techniques, the surface critical behaviour of three-dimensional semi-infinite ANNNI models with different surface orientations with respect to the axis of competing interactions is investigated. Special attention is thereby paid to the surface criticality at the bulk uniaxial Lifshitz point encountered in this model. The presented Monte Carlo results show that the mean-field description of semi-infinite ANNNI models is qualitatively correct. Lifshitz point surface critical exponents at the ordinary transition are found to depend on the surface orientation. At the special transition point, however, no clear dependency of the critical exponents on the surface orientation is revealed. The values of the surface critical exponents presented in this study are the first estimates available beyond mean-field theory.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures include
