existe una calle que llevó en otra época el nombre de “rue des Belles-Filles”. Muchos
hombres pasaron por allí, tras los encantos de hermosas damiselas. Corrían los años
previos a las reformas del austero Calvino… Mucho tiempo después, el 11 de abril de
1871 más exactamente, los consejeros de estado decidieron, por medio de una ley,

Language Control and Lexical Competition in Bilinguals: An Event-Related fMRI Study
Language selection (or control) refers to the cognitive mechanism that controls which language to use at a given moment and context. It allows bilinguals to selectively communicate in one target language while minimizing the interferences from the nontarget language. Previous studies have suggested the participation in language control of different brain areas. However, the question remains whether the selection of one language among others relies on a language-specific neural module or general executive regions that also allow switching between different competing behavioral responses including the switching between various linguistic registers. In this functional magnetic resonance imaging study, we investigated the neural correlates of language selection processes in German-French bilingual subjects during picture naming in different monolingual and bilingual selection contexts. We show that naming in the first language in the bilingual context (compared with monolingual contexts) increased activation in the left caudate and anterior cingulate cortex. Furthermore, the activation of these areas is even more extended when the subjects are using a second weaker language. These findings show that language control processes engaged in contexts during which both languages must remain active recruit the left caudate and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in a manner that can be distinguished from areas engaged in intralanguage task switchin
Interdisciplinary approach in translation didactics
The question why interdisciplinary research and approach in translation didactics has
become essential and of interest to translation studies will be outlined prior to highlighting
three to our thinking major disciplines of interest. Those are: 1. cognitive and affective
sciences with a specific interest of evaluation methods and the implicit and explicit
knowledge; 2. cognitive sciences and neurosciences leading to a more proficient structuring
of a course; 3. research in competences, analyzing first and foremost the different
competences, such as social competence, methodological competence, personal competence
and acting competence. Linked to the research in competences is of course the pathway
which trainers pave for their learners and which leads from novices to experts, taking into
account the interface with the professional world.
A practical example of a course, in which all these reflections are integrated and
structured according to Bloom’s taxonomy, will mark the last part of this paper
La traducció a Suïssa: una visió històrica
L'objectiu del present treball és despertar l'interès per l'activitat traductora a Suïssa des d'una perspectiva històrica. Igualment, es pretén també de presentar la gran quantitat d'excel·lents escriptors que han esmerçat els seus esforços en la traducció de les grans obres, i amb això, engrescar per a la continuació de futurs estudis. Per a portar a terme aquest objectiu, es fa un repàs històric de la traducció a Suïssa des del segle X fins gairebé l'actualitat, recollint els autors mencionats en el treball de Henri Van Hoof (1993) Dictionnaire international des Traducteurs.The aim of this article is to consider the importance of the translation Studies in Switzerland. We also examine the great number of writers who have focussed their attention in translating important works and the implication for further studies. To do this, we review the translation studies in Switzerland from the X century up to nowadays, including the authors menctioned in the Dictionnaire Intemational des Traducteurs by Henri Van Hoof (1993)
New Cognitive Approaches in Process-Oriented Translation Training
After a brief description of the state of the art, this paper presents new methods of process-oriented translation training. The different instruments used in class, such as questionnaires and other tools, the learning outcome of these methods and the improvement of proficiency achieved by these means, constitute the core of the paper. The third and final part deals with the preliminary results of an interdisciplinary research project with the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital of Geneva, and the prospects for applying this type of research to translation training
