    Rescuing system design

    There are many different technologies and equipment to search for objects underground today including mine ore, water, mineral or oil, but almost none of those technologies and equipment are applied to searching for people. This research will help to define what kinds of detecting methods exist, and what kind of technologies could be possibly applied for detecting human beings underground. ... The primary goal is to develop a new system for rescuing people under special circumstances such as building collapses, earthquakes, and being trapped underground (e.g., mine shaft collapses). There are many different technologies that could be applied to these situations. However, many of these technologies and devices are not appropriate for these sensitive circumstances. The most important process through this thesis is to find the best and most accurate technologies for detecting and locating victims underground, and to define the most efficient system to save as many lives as possible. This thesis proposes and suggests the best way to rescue trapped people underground. It will solve the problems we have faced for a long time, and help rescuers to protect victims\u27 lives as well as their own

    Cluster X-ray line at 3.5keV3.5\,{\rm keV} from axion-like dark matter

    The recently reported X-ray line signal at Eγ3.5keVE_\gamma \simeq 3.5\, {\rm keV} from a stacked spectrum of various galaxy clusters and the Andromeda galaxy may be originating from a decaying dark matter particle of the mass 2Eγ2 E_\gamma. A light axion-like scalar is suggested as a natural candidate for dark matter and its production mechanisms are closely examined. We show that the right amount of axion relic density with the preferred parameters, ma7keVm_a \simeq 7 \,{\rm keV} and fa4×1014GeVf_a \simeq 4\times 10^{14}\, {\rm GeV}, can be naturally obtainable from the decay of inflaton. If the axions were produced from the saxion decay, it could not have constituted the total relic density due to the bound from structure formation. Nonetheless, the saxion decay is an interesting possibility, because the 3.5keV3.5\, {\rm keV} line and dark radiation can be addressed simultaneously, being consistent with the Planck data. Small misalignment angles of the axion, ranging between θa104101\theta_a\sim 10^{-4} -10^{-1} depending on the reheating temperature, can also be the source of axion production. Sometimes, on-line services request us authentication or identification for access control and authorization, and PKI technology is widely used because of its security. However the possibility of privacy invasion will increase, if We’re identified with same certificate in many services and these identification data are accumulated. For privacy-preserving authentication or anonymous authentication, there have been many researches such as Group signatures, anonymous credentials, etc. Among these researches, group signatures are very practical Because they provide unlinkability and traceability as well as anonymity. In this paper, we propose a privacy-preserving PKI based on group signature, with which users’ privacy can be Kept in services. Because of traceability, their identities can be traced if they abuse anonymity such as cybercrime. Moreover, we will also discuss open issues for further studies

    Simultaneous deletion of floxed genes mediated by CaMKIIa-Cre in the brain and in male germ cells: application to conditional and conventional disruption of Go-alfa

    The Cre/LoxP system is a well-established approach to spatially and temporally control genetic inactivation. The calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha subunit (CaMKIIα) promoter limits expression to specific regions of the forebrain and thus has been utilized for the brain-specific inactivation of the genes. Here, we show that CaMKIIα-Cre can be utilized for simultaneous inactivation of genes in the adult brain and in male germ cells. Double transgenic Rosa26+/stop-lacZ::CaMKIIα-Cre+/Cre mice generated by crossing CaMKIIα-Cre+/Cre mice with floxed ROSA26 lacZ reporter (Rosa26+/stop-lacZ) mice exhibited lacZ expression in the brain and testis. When these mice were mated to wild-type females, about 27% of the offspring were whole body blue by X-gal staining without inheriting the Cre transgene. These results indicate that recombination can occur in the germ cells of male Rosa26+/stop-lacZ::CaMKIIα-Cre+/Cre mice. Similarly, when double transgenic Gnao+/f::CaMKIIα-Cre+/Cre mice carrying a floxed Go-alpha gene (Gnaof/f) were backcrossed to wild-type females, approximately 22% of the offspring carried the disrupted allele (GnaoΔ) without inheriting the Cre transgene. The GnaoΔ/Δ mice closely resembled conventional Go-alpha knockout mice (Gnao−/−) with respect to impairment of their behavior. Thus, we conclude that CaMKIIα-Cre mice afford recombination for both tissue- and time-controlled inactivation of floxed target genes in the brain and for their permanent disruption.     Enhancing the rate-hardness of haptic interaction: Successive force augmentation approach

    © 1982-2012 IEEE. There have been numerous approaches that have been proposed to enlarge the impedance range of haptic interaction while maintaining stability. However, enhancing the rate-hardness of haptic interaction while maintaining stability is still a challenging issue. The actual perceived rate-hardness has been much lower than what the users expect to feel. In this paper, we propose the successive force augmentation (SFA) approach, which increases the impedance range by adding a feed-forward force offset to the state-dependent feedback force rendered using a low stiffness value. This allows the proposed approach to display stiffness of up to 10 N/mm with Phantom Premium 1.5. It was possible to further enhance the rate-hardness by using the original value of virtual environment stiffness for feedback force calculation during the transient response followed by normal SFA. Experimental evaluation for multi-DoF virtual environment exhibited a much higher displayed stiffness and rate-hardness compared to conventional approaches. Two user studies revealed that the increase of rate-hardness due to SFA allowed the participants to have a faster reaction time to an unexpected collision with a virtual wall and accurately discriminate between four virtual walls of different stiffness

    Porphyra-334, a mycosporine-like amino acid, attenuates UV-induced apoptosis in HaCaT cells

    The main aim of the current research was to study the effect of porphyra-334, one of mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs), well known as UV-absorbing compounds, on UV-induced apoptosis in human immortalized keratinocyte (HaCaT) cells. Due to their UV-screening capacity and ability to prevent UV-induced DNA damage, MAAs have recently attracted considerable attention in both industry and research in pharmacology. Herein, human HaCaT cells were used to determine the biological activities of porphyra-334 by various in vitro assays, including proliferation, apoptosis and Western blot assays. The proliferation rate of UV-irradiated HaCaT cells was significantly decreased compared to the control group. Pretreatment with porphyra-334 markedly attenuated the inhibitory effect of UV and induced a dramatic decrease in the apoptotic rate. Expression of active caspase-3 protein was increased in response to UV irradiation, while caspase-3 levels were similar between cells treated with porphyra-334 and the non-irradiated control group. Taken together, our data suggest that porphyra-334 inhibits UV-induced apoptosis in HaCaT cells through attenuation of the caspase pathway

    Autonomous technology is advancing, but attention must be paid to how it will be realized when the technology meets specific domains. This paper argued that ships with autonomous technology can not be fundamentally free from the nature of a ship that is human system. Furthermore, the ordinary practice of seamen, which has been the foundation of ship safety for thousands of years, would serve as a basis for judging the adaptability of the autonomous technology. In this regard, the maritime autonomous surface vessels (MASS) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) should be re-conceptualized into remotely operated vessels (ROV) and fully-autonomous vessels (FAV), and both development models should fulfill the standards of the ordinary practice of seamen. Furthermore, insofar as the ordinary practice of seamen takes a central role in MASS, the approach of amending Maritime Law will is more appropriate in regulating MASS than that of adopting a special act.     Dual-Organ Transcriptomic Analysis of Rainbow Trout Infected With Ichthyophthirius multifiliis Through Co-Expression and Machine Learning

    Ichthyophthirius multifiliis is a major pathogen that causes a high mortality rate in trout farms. However, systemic responses to the pathogen and its interactions with multiple organs during the course of infection have not been well described. In this study, dual-organ transcriptomic responses in the liver and head kidney and hemato-serological indexes were profiled under I. multifiliis infection and recovery to investigate systemic immuno-physiological characteristics. Several strategies for massive transcriptomic interpretation, such as differentially expressed genes (DEGs), Poisson linear discriminant (PLDA), and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) models were used to investigate the featured genes/pathways while minimizing the disadvantages of individual methods. During the course of infection, 6,097 and 2,931 DEGs were identified in the head kidney and liver, respectively. Markers of protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, oxidative phosphorylation, and the proteasome were highly expressed. Likewise, simultaneous ferroptosis and cellular reconstruction was observed, which is strongly linked to multiple organ dysfunction. In contrast, pathways relevant to cellular replication were up-regulated in only the head kidney, while endocytosis- and phagosome-related pathways were notably expressed in the liver. Moreover, interestingly, most immune-relevant pathways (e.g., leukocyte trans-endothelial migration, Fc gamma R-mediated phagocytosis) were highly activated in the liver, but the same pathways in the head kidney were down-regulated. These conflicting results from different organs suggest that interpretation of co-expression among organs is crucial for profiling of systemic responses during infection. The dual-organ transcriptomics approaches presented in this study will greatly contribute to our understanding of multi-organ interactions under I. multifiliis infection from a broader perspective.publishedVersio

    2D solar wind speeds from 6 to 26 solar radii in solar cycle 24 by using Fourier filtering

    Measurement of the solar wind speed near the Sun is important for understanding the acceleration mechanism of the solar wind. In this study, we determine 2D solar wind speeds from 6 to 26 solar radii by applying Fourier motion filters to \textit{SOHO}/LASCO C3 movies observed from 1999 to 2010. Our method successfully reproduces the original flow speeds in the artificially generated data as well as streamer blobs. We measure 2D solar wind speeds from 1-day to 1-year timescales and their variation in solar cycle 24. We find that the solar wind speeds at timescales longer than a month in the solar maximum period are relatively uniform in the azimuthal direction, while they are clearly bimodal in the minimum period, as expected from the \textit{Ulysses} observations and IPS reconstruction. The bimodal structure appears at around 2006, becomes most distinctive in 2009, and abruptly disappears in 2010. The radial evolution of the solar wind speeds resembles the Parker's solar wind solution.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures; accepted by PR

    Brucellosis among ruminants in some districts of Bangladesh using four conventional serological assays

    Brucellosis causes a great economic loss to the livestock industries through abortion, infertility, birth of weak and dead offspring, increased calving interval and reduction of milk yield and it is endemic in Bangladesh. The present study was performed to know the seroprevalence of brucellosis for 1000 ruminants (135 Buffaloes, 465 cattle, 230 goats and 170 sheep) in five different districts of Bangladesh by four conventional serological tests such as: Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBT), tube agglutination test (TAT), competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (C-ELISA), and Fluorescent polarization assay (FPA). Sheep has the highest prevalence (8.24%) of brucellosis. The seroprevalence of brucellosis was significantly higher in animals with previous abortion record in case of buffaloes, cattle, goats and sheep than that with no abortion record. C-ELISA can be the most suitable choice for extensive use in many kinds of livestocks and accurate estimation of Brucella antibodies in ruminants in Bangladesh
