Pseudo-distances on symplectomorphism groups and applications to flux theory
Starting from a given norm on the vector space of exact 1-forms of a compact
symplectic manifold, we produce pseudo-distances on its symplectomorphism group
by generalizing an idea due to Banyaga. We prove that in some cases (which
include Banyaga's construction), their restriction to the Hamiltonian
diffeomorphism group is equivalent to the distance induced by the initial norm
on exact 1-forms. We also define genuine "distances to the Hamiltonian
diffeomorphism group" which we use to derive several consequences, mainly in

Development of Lumped Element Kinetic Inductance Detectors for NIKA
Lumped-element kinetic inductance detectors(LEKIDs) have recently shown
considerable promise as direct absorption mm-wavelength detectors for
astronomical applications. One major research thrust within the N\'eel Iram
Kids Array (NIKA) collaboration has been to investigate the suitability of
these detectors for deployment at the 30-meter IRAM telescope located on Pico
Veleta in Spain. Compared to microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKID),
using quarter wavelength resonators, the resonant circuit of a LEKID consists
of a discrete inductance and capacitance coupled to a feedline. A high and
constant current density distribution in the inductive part of these resonators
makes them very sensitive. Due to only one metal layer on a silicon substrate,
the fabrication is relatively easy. In order to optimize the LEKIDs for this
application, we have recently probed a wide variety of individual resonator and
array parameters through simulation and physical testing. This included
determining the optimal feed-line coupling, pixel geometry, resonator
distribution within an array (in order to minimize pixel cross-talk), and
resonator frequency spacing. Based on these results, a 144-pixel Aluminum array
was fabricated and tested in a dilution fridge with optical access, yielding an
average optical NEP of ~2E-16 W/Hz^1/2 (best pixels showed NEP = 6E-17 W/Hz^1/2
under 4-8 pW loading per pixel). In October 2010 the second prototype of LEKIDs
has been tested at the IRAM 30 m telescope. A new LEKID geometry for 2
polarizations will be presented. Also first optical measurements of a titanium

Spin Glass Ordering in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors: a Monte Carlo Study
We study the temperature-dilution phase diagram of a site-diluted Heisenberg
antiferromagnet on a fcc lattice, with and without the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya
anisotropic term, fixed to realistic microscopic parameters for (IIB=Cd, Hg, Zn). We show that the dipolar Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya anisotropy
induces a finite-temperature phase transition to a spin glass phase, at
dilutions larger than 80%. The resulting probability distribution of the order
parameter P(q) is similar to the one found in the cubic lattice
Edwards-Anderson Ising model. The critical exponents undergo large finite size
corrections, but tend to values similar to the ones of the
Edwards-Anderson-Ising model.Comment: 4 pages plus 3 postscript figure
Classification of complications of epilepsy surgery and invasive diagnostic procedures: A proposed protocol and feasibility study
Objective: In epilepsy surgery, which aims to treat seizures and thereby to improve the lives of persons with drug-resistant epilepsy, the chances of attaining seizure relief must be carefully weighed against the risks of complications and expected adverse events. The interpretation of data regarding complications of epilepsy surgery and invasive diagnostic procedures is hampered by a lack of uniform definitions and method of data collection. Methods: Based on a review of previous definitions and classifications of complications, we developed a proposal for a new classification. This proposal was then subject to revisions after expert opinion within E-pilepsy, an EU-funded European pilot network of reference centers in refractory epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, later incorporated into the ERN (European Reference Network) EpiCARE. This version was discussed with recognized experts, and a final protocol was agreed to after further revision. The final protocol was evaluated in practical use over 1 year in three of the participating centers. One hundred seventy-four consecutive procedures were included with 35 reported complications. Results: This report presents a multidimensional classification of complications in epilepsy surgery and invasive diagnostic procedures, where complications are characterized in terms of their immediate effects, resulting permanent symptoms, and consequences on activities of daily living. Significance: We propose that the protocol will be helpful in the work to promote safety in epilepsy surgery and for future studies designed to identify risk factors for complications. Further work is needed to address the reporting of outcomes as regards neuropsychological function, activities of daily living, and quality of life

In the title compound, C29H27NO6S, the sulfonyl-bound phenyl ring is almost perpendicular to the indole ring system [dihedral angle = 87.96 (6)°], while the benzylphenyl ring is oriented at an angle of 76.8 (7)°. An intramolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked into a zigzag C(10) chain along the b axis by intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds
The effects of improving low dietary protein utilization on the proteome of lamb tissues
Cistus ladanifer L. is a common shrub endemic to the Mediterranean region with high levels of condensed tannins (CT). CT form complexes with dietary protein resisting microbial degradation in the rumen, which enhances dietary protein utilization in ruminant diets. The objective of this study was to evaluate the utilization of CT in the diet of lambs on the proteomes of muscle, hepatic and adipose tissues.
Twenty-four Merino Branco ram lambs were randomly allocated to three treatments (n = 8): C – control (160 g crude protein (CP)) per kg DM, RP – reduced protein (120 g CP/kg DM); and RPCT – reduced protein (120 g CP/kg DM) treated with CT extract. At the end of the trial, lambs were slaughtered and the longissimus lumborum muscle, hepatic and peri-renal adipose tissues sampled. A two-way approach was used for proteomic analysis: 2D-DIGE and nanoLC-MS.
In the muscle, C lambs had lower abundance proteins that partake in the glycolysis pathway than the lambs of other treatments. Control lambs had lower abundance of Fe-carrying proteins in the hepatic tissue than RP and RPCT lambs. The latter lambs had highest abundance of hepatic flavin reductase. NIKA: A millimeter-wave kinetic inductance camera
Current generation millimeter wavelength detectors suffer from scaling limits
imposed by complex cryogenic readout electronics. To circumvent this it is
imperative to investigate technologies that intrinsically incorporate strong
multiplexing. One possible solution is the kinetic inductance detector (KID).
In order to assess the potential of this nascent technology, a prototype
instrument optimized for the 2 mm atmospheric window was constructed. Known as
the N\'eel IRAM KIDs Array (NIKA), it was recently tested at the Institute for
Millimetric Radio Astronomy (IRAM) 30-meter telescope at Pico Veleta, Spain.
The measurement resulted in the imaging of a number of sources, including
planets, quasars, and galaxies. The images for Mars, radio star MWC349, quasar
3C345, and galaxy M87 are presented. From these results, the optical NEP was
calculated to be around WHz. A factor of 10
improvement is expected to be readily feasible by improvements in the detector

Non-Dipolar Electron Angular Distributions from Fixed-in-Space Molecules
The first indication of nondipole effects in the azimuthal dependence of photoelectron angular distributions emitted from fixed-in-space molecules is demonstrated in N2. Comparison of the results with angular distributions observed for randomly oriented molecules and theoretical derivations for the nondipole correction first order in photon momentum suggests that higher orders will be needed to describe distributions measured in the molecular frame

In the title compound, C23H19NO4S2, the indole ring system makes dihedral angles of 89.6 (1) and 84.5 (8)° with the phenylsulfonyl and phenylsulfanyl rings, respectively. In the crystal, the molecules are linked into C(10) chains running along the c axis by an intermolecular C—H⋯O hydrogen bond. In addition, the crystal packing is stabilized by C—H⋯π interactions
