Ensino-aprendizagem com recurso à tecnologia informática : mudanças observadas nos alunos

(ISSN 1138-1663)É cada vez mais comum utilizar-se a modalidade educativa designada por e-learning, entendida como o recurso às novas tecnologias multimédia e à internet para melhorar a qualidade da aprendizagem, a qual abrange um vasto conjunto de aplicações e processos como a aprendizagem mediada por computador, a aprendizagem baseada na Web, salas de aula e comunidades virtuais online. Apesar destes avanços tecnológicos e pedagógicos, continuam a existir disciplinas com níveis de insucesso elevados. A matemática é ilustrativa, continuando a ser considerada uma disciplina de difícil aprendizagem por grande parte dos alunos. Com o presente estudo, foi nosso objectivo recorrer à mediação por computador para avaliar o impacto na aprendizagem de funções quando os conteúdos matemáticos são apresentados utilizando a parte gráfica, em complemento da convencional abordagem algébrica. Os resultados finais sugerem que os alunos do 12º ano que participaram nesta experiência demonstram uma melhor compreensão dos conceitos matemáticos envolvidos e passaram a estabelecer, com mais facilidade, as relações entre as escritas algébrica e gráfica. Para além disso, nesta comunicação descrevemos algumas outras mudanças ocorridas nos alunos com a implementação desta experiência educativa, nomeadamente em termos de frequências, locais, modos de utilização e atitudes dos alunos em relação à utilização dos computadores

Apresentação gráfica do conceito de função e sua implicação nas atitudes e na aprendizagem dos alunos

Actualmente abrem-se novas perspectivas de apresentação de diversos conteúdos que, aliadas à rapidez e precisão de execução dos computadores, permitem uma abordagem gráfica, anteriormente difícil de conseguir, especialmente em alguns tópicos curriculares da disciplina de matemática, envolvendo alguma abstracção e raciocínio lógico por parte dos alunos. A esta abordagem gráfica, o computador permite acrescentar funcionalidades de interacção e interactividade. Deste modo, recorrendo ao computador como auxiliar educativo, os alunos podem simular e experimentar novas situações como lhes aprouver e verificar os respectivos resultados. No caso concreto que apresentamos, utilizámos a capacidade gráfica e de simulação dos computadores para facilitar a aprendizagem do conceito de função, reforçando a correspondência entre linguagem algébrica e gráfica

Software educativo como facilitador da aprendizagem : estudo tomando a função exponencial e a derivada

(ISBN 978-972-8746-52-0)A digitalização da informação permite com relativa facilidade a sua apresentação recorrendo ao texto, ao som, à imagem e à combinação de todos estes elementos. Decorrente dela o aspecto visual e gráfico, tal corno noutras áreas, pode e deve ser explorado no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Visou-se neste estudo aferir qual o impacto que o software educativo escolhido teve no processo de ensino-aprendizagem do conceito de função exponencial e derivada. Estes conceitos foram leccionados, recorrendo às potencialidades gráficas do computador, a alunos do décimo segundo ano, que frequentaram as aulas da disciplina de Matemática. Esse impacto seria traduzido numa melhor compreensão dos conceitos matemáticos e da relação entre a escrita algébrica e a gráfica, pelos alunos envolvidos na experiência educativa. Na investigação sobre a diferenciação de rendimento dos alunos, tivemos ainda em consideração a variável sexo, dada a possível relevância desta variável. Por outro lado pretendemos aferir quais as frequências e modos de utilização que os alunos faziam dos computadores e se o facto de terem contactado com urna metodologia de ensino que envolvia o recurso a computadores teria repercussões nesses valores e usos. O estudo permitiu constatar que os alunos envolvidos na experiência educativa, tiveram um aproveitamento diferenciado do dos seus colegas, a quem os mesmos conceitos foram leccionados de forma convencional, sem recurso a computadores.Digital information enables its presentation in a relatively simple way by means of a text, a sound, an image and the combination of all these elements. Due to its visual and graphic aspect, it can and should be explored in the teaching-learning process, just as in other areas. It was sought in this study to check which impact the chosen educational software had in the process of teaching-learning applied to the concept of exponential function and derived function. These concepts were taught, to students attending the subject of Mathematics, 12th form, and were supported by the graphic potentialities of computers. For the students involved in the educational experience that impact would be translated in a better understanding of the mathematical concepts and of the relationship between the algebraic writing and the graphic visualisation. The investigation about the differentiation of the students' success had also into consideration the variable gender, because of the possible relevance of this variable. On the other hand we intended to check how often and what for do students use the computers and if by having experienced this teaching methodology supported by the use of computers, there were sorne repercussions in those values and uses. This study allowed us to verify, that the students involved in the educational experience had a differentiated success of other students to whom, the same concepts were taught in a conventional way, without computers

Ensino-aprendizagem da matemática com recurso a software educativo : atitudes e rendimento académico dos alunos

Este artigo descreve o impacto da utilização de um software educativo, mais concretamente centrado nas potencialidades gráficas, ao nível das atitudes, hábitos e frequência de uso dos computadores pelos alunos que o utilizaram tal software no processo de aprendizagem de conceitos matemáticos. Analisámos, também, de que modo essa utilização facilitou a relação entre a escrita algébrica e a gráfica. Foi considerada uma amostra de alunos do 12º ano de escolaridade, onde alguns conceitos da disciplina de matemática foram leccionados com recurso ao grafismo informático, dando especial ênfase à imagem digital. Os resultados sugerem que a utilização de software educativo teve um impacto positivo junto dos alunos envolvidos, que mudaram a sua perspectiva relativamente ao uso dos computadores e obtiveram um melhor aproveitamento académico, face aos colegas a quem os mesmos conceitos foram leccionados de forma convencional

Expression of cell surface receptors and oxidative metabolism modulation in the clinical continuum of sepsis

Background Infection control depends on adequate microbe recognition and cell activation, yet inflammatory response may lead to organ dysfunction in sepsis. the aims of this study were to evaluate cell activation in the context of sepsis and its correlation with organ dysfunction.Methods A total of 41 patients were prospectively enrolled: 14 with sepsis, 12 with severe sepsis and 15 with septic shock. A total of 17 healthy volunteers were included as a control group. Patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Units and Emergency Rooms of Hospital São Paulo ( Federal University of São Paulo) and Hospital Santa Marcelina, São Paulo, Brazil. Toll- like receptor ( TLR) 2, TLR4, CD11b, CD11c and CD66b expression on neutrophil surfaces and oxidative metabolism measured by non- fluorescent dichlorofluorescein ( DCFH) oxidation in neutrophils and monocytes, using whole blood, were evaluated using flow cytometry. Organ dysfunction was measured using the sepsis- associated organ failure assessment ( SOFA) score.Results TLR2 expression on neutrophils was found to be downregulated in septic shock patients compared to healthy volunteers ( p = 0.05). No differences were found in CD11b and CD11c expression. CD66b expression was increased in the patient group compared to the control group ( p = 0.01). Neutrophil and monocyte oxidative burst was increased in septic patients compared to the control group at baseline and after stimulation with phorbol myristate acetate ( PMA), formylmethionylleucyl- phenylalanine ( fMLP), lipopolysaccharide ( LPS) and Staphylococcus aureus ( p 7 was higher than in patients with SOFA scores < 7, both in neutrophils and monocytes. However, oxidative burst in patients with sepsis was as high as in septic shock.Conclusion Surface receptors expression on neutrophils may be modulated across the continuum of sepsis, and enhanced or decreased expression may be found depending on the receptor considered. The role of Tyr(605) and Ala(607) of thimet oligopeptidase and Tyr(606) and Gly(608) of neurolysin in substrate hydrolysis and inhibitor binding

The physicochemical properties of TOP (thimet oligopeptidase) and NEL (neurolysin) and their hydrolytic activities towards the FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) peptide series AbzGFSXFRQ-EDDnp [where Abz is o-aminobenzoyl; X = Ala, Ile, Leu, Phe, Tyr, Trp, Ser, Gln, Glu, His, Arg or Pro; and EDDnp is N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-ethylenediamine] were compared with those of site-mutated analogues. Mutations at Tyr(605) and Ala(607) in TOP and at Tyr(606) and Gly(608) in NEL did not affect the overall folding of the two peptidases, as indicated by their thermal stability, CD analysis and the pH-dependence of the intrinsic fluorescence of the protein. the kinetic parameters for the hydrolysis of substrates with systematic variations at position P-1 showed that Tyr(605) and Tyr(606) of TOP and NEL respectively, played a role in subsite S-1. Ala(607) of TOP and Gly(608) of NEL contributed to the flexibility of the loops formed by residues 600-612 (GHLAGGYDGQYYG; one-letter amino acid codes used) in NEL and 599-611 (GHLAGGYDAQYYG; one-letter amino acid codes used) in TOP contributing to the distinct substrate specificities, particularly with an isoleucine residue at P-1. TOP Y605A was inhibited less efficiently by JA-2 {N-[1-(R,S)-carboxy-3-phenylpropyl]Ala-Aib-Tyr-p-aminobenzoate}, which suggested that the aromatic ring of Ty,105 was an important anchor for its interaction with wild-type TOP. the hydroxy groups of Tyr 605 and Tyr.. did not contribute to the pH-activity profiles, since the pKs obtained in the assays of mutants TOP Y605F and NEL Y606F were similar to those of wild-type peptidases. However, the pH-k(cat)/K-m dependence curve of TOP Y605A differed from that of wild-type TOP and from TOP Y606F. Fish Oil Supplementation Reduces Inflammation but Does Not Restore Renal Function and Klotho Expression in an Adenine-Induced CKD Model

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease and inflammation promote loss of Klotho expression. Given the well-established anti-inflammatory effects of omega-3 fatty acids, we aimed to investigate the effect of fish oil supplementation in a model of CKD. METHODS: Male C57BL/6 mice received supplementation with an adenine-enriched diet (AD, n = 5) or standard diet (CTL, n = 5) for 10 days. Two other experimental groups were kept under the adenine diet for 10 days. Following adenine withdrawal on the 11th day, the animals returned to a standard diet supplemented with fish oil (Post AD-Fish oil, n = 9) or not (Post AD-CTL, n = 9) for an additional period of 7 days. RESULTS: Adenine mice exhibited significantly higher mean serum urea, creatinine, and renal expression of the pro-inflammatory markers Interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-X-C motif chemokine 10 (CXCL10), and Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), in addition to prominent renal fibrosis and reduced renal Klotho gene expression compared to the control. Post AD-Fish oil animals demonstrated a significant reduction of IL-6, C-X-C motif chemokine 9 (CXCL9), and IL-1β compared to Post AD-CTL animals. However, serum creatinine, renal fibrosis, and Klotho were not significantly different in the fish oil-treated group. Furthermore, renal histomorphological changes such as tubular dilatation and interstitial infiltration persisted despite treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Fish oil supplementation reduced renal pro-inflammatory markers but was not able to restore renal function nor Klotho expression in an adenine-induced CKD model

O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas no tempo, com as plantas de cobertura avaliadas nas parcelas, e nas subparcelas, as épocas de coleta de fitomassa, com quatro repetições

Link Between Sustainability and Industry 4.0: Trends, Challenges and New Perspectives

The increasing number of studies that underline the relationship between industry 4.0 and sustainability shows that sustainability is one of the pillars of smart factories. Through a bibliometric performance and network analysis (BPNA), this research describes the existing relationship between industry 4.0 and sustainability, the strategic themes from 2010 to March 2019, as well as the research gaps for proposing future work. With this goal in mind, 894 documents and 5621 keywords were included for bibliometric analysis, which were treated with the support of Science Mapping Analysis Software Tool (SciMAT). The bibliometric performance analysis presented the number of publications over time and the most productive journals. The strategic diagram shown 12 main research clusters, which were measured according to bibliometric indicators. Moreover, the network structure of each cluster was depicted, and the patterns found were discussed based on the documents associated to the network. Our findings show the scientific efforts are focused to enhance economic and environmental aspects and highlights a lack of effort relating the social sphere. Finally, the paper concludes the challenges, perspectives, and suggestions for the potential future work in the field of study relating to industry 4.0 and sustainability
