Mean-stable surfaces in Static Einstein-Maxwell theory

In this paper we use the theory of mean-stable surfaces (stable minimal surfaces included) to explore the static Einstein-Maxwell space-time. We first prove that the zero set of the lapse function must be contained in the horizon boundary. Then, we explore some implications of it providing some results of nonexistence of stable minimal surfaces in the interior of an electrostatic space, subject to a certain initial boundary data. We finish by proving that the ADM mass is bounded from above by the Hawking quasi-local mass

COMPARISON BETWEEN THE DOUBLE BUFFER METHOD AND THE EQUIVALENT RECTANGLE METHOD FOR THE QUANTIFICATION OF DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN LINEAR FEATURES

Currently, in Brazil, for the assessment of the Positional Accuracy of non-point features (lines and polygons), there is no standard norm of execution. This work aims to compare the results of two methodologies that allow determining the average value of the discrepancies between linear features. The first, Equivalent Rectangle Method, aims to determine the discrepancy by considering an equivalent rectangle for the polygon obtained from the two homologous lines. The second, Double Buffer Method applies a buffer on both lines and obtains the average discrepancy value based on the relation of the areas of the generated polygons. These methods were compared in two steps. Initially, an experiment was performed with features of known measurements, where the displacement of the homologous lines was controlled in azimuth and distance. In this step, it was verified that the shape of the feature and the direction of the displacement interfere in the results of both methods when compared to the traditional procedure of measurement of discrepancies by homologous points. In the second stage, we evaluated the vector data of the OpenStreetMap (class of roads), with reference to a more accurate vector dataset produced for the Mapping of the State of Bahia. As a result, for the 1:25,000, 1:50,000, 1:100,000 and 1:250,000 scales, it was obtained, respectively, the PEC-PCD for the Equivalent Rectangle Method "C", "B", "A" and "A" and the PEC-PCD for the Double Buffer Method "R", "C", "B" and "A", where "R" means that it has not achieved the minimum PEC-PCD classification

Avanços e limites da Comissão Milton Santos de memória e verdade da UFBA: : análise arquivística

A ditadura civil-militar brasileira (1964-1985) instaurou no país um Estado de exceção. Nesse período, as violações aos direitos humanos e o cerceamento das liberdades individuais foram institucionalizadas no Brasil. No contexto universitário, espaço de tradicional efervescência política, o Estado autoritário atuou no sentido de reprimir e silenciar as vozes destoantes do novo governo. Antes mesmo do término da ditadura, um conjunto de ações começam a ser executadas com a finalidade de consolidar a justiça de transição no Brasil – a exemplo da criação das Comissões da Verdade. O objetivo do presente artigo é apresentar os avanços e limites da Comissão Milton Santos de Memória e Verdade (CMSMV), da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), assim como produzir uma análise arquivística no sentido de compreender a contribuição que a arquivologia proporcionou aos trabalhos do colegiado. Acerca dos procedimentos metodológicos, esta investigação, com um enfoque descritivo e de abordagem qualitativa, caracteriza-se enquanto um estudo de caso, utilizando como procedimento de coleta de dados a pesquisa bibliográfica. Conclui-se que, apesar das limitações impostas à referida comissão, foi possível perceber – a partir de uma análise arquivística – a contribuição da Arquivologia nos achados documentais e informacionais acerca do tema em tela, por meio de documentação selecionada

Atributos Físicos E Geoespaciais De Cambissolo E Argissolo De Mata Nativa Em Humaitá, Am

Natural grasslands with savannah-like characteristics associated to forest mosaics are found within Southern and Eastern Amazonas, Western Rondonia and Northern Roraima, being conditioned to local edaphic factors. The aim of this study was to assess both physical and geospatial attributes of an Cambisol under natural grasslands and an Ultisol under a forest fragment in Humaita - AM, Brazil. In each area, we established a sampling grid in the dimensions of 70 x 70 m, with regular sampling spacing of 10 m and three collection depths: 0.0-0.05, 0.05-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m, totaling 192 sampling points. Macroporosity (MaP), microporosity (MiP), bulk density (Ds) and total porosity (TP) were determined by soil samples with preserved structure, using a volumetric ring. Soil resistance to penetration (SRP) was measured by an automatic penetrometer after being subjected to a 0.006 MPa tension. Data were submitted to descriptive statistics and geostatistics analysis. The soil under natural grasslands showed values considered critical of Ds, SRP, MaP at all evaluated depths, with significant values at 0.10-0.20 m layer of 1.54 kg dm(-3); 2.08 MPa and 0.05 m(3) m(-3), respectively. Ultisol under the forest fragments showed higher range values and consequently greater geospatial continuity due to the assessed physical attributes, since this soil has a greater stability of its physical structure. Based on the physical properties of the soil, structural function ineffectiveness of the Ultisol is a key factor for the occurrence of grassland in this region.322422430FAPEAMSECTI-A
