The accelerating ageing and exponential growth of the share of over 65s in the
Portuguese society leads to a rising concern with the quality of life of this age group that is
also shared by the media. Ageing is commonly associated to a negative situation, including
disease, reduced mobility and unhappiness. Contrasting with this view, it is arguable that
over 65s may enjoy “quality of life”, including physical and mental health, good family and
social integration and an active engagement in family and public decisions. Moreover, they
may access to consumption and cultural goods, appropriate diets and quality
accommodation and mobility. This study is focused on the social determinants of older
people’s quality of life, namely family links, social relations and opportunities for social
participation. The empirical observation is based on the role played by the Mafra senior
university, as an example of the wider activity of senior universities. This university provides
a social policy of active ageing and social inclusion for over 65s, becoming the central
objective of this research
Brief notes on two Brazilian Women´´ s Libraries

AbstractThe collection of books by women is the keynote of this article. For this, reflections were made in the light of authors, such as: Quentin-Bauchart (1886), Roberts (1895), Cim (1901), Darnton (1992), Courceles and Júlian (1999), Azevedo (2010), Palma Peña (2013), Bessone (2014), Hastings (2014) and Melo (2018). From a methodological point of view, the study of two cases was carried out: the Paraense bibliophile Annunciada Chaves and the Gaúcha bibliographer Salete Maccalóz, whose trajectories will be analyzed according to the following aspects: from birth and death, training, social insertion and interest in books until the destination of their libraries, characteristics of their libraries, illustrating the bibliographic characteristics. In conclusion, our objective is modest, that is, to contribute to expand the theme in some way so as not to cause such strangeness as words: “Bibliophile”; “Women's Library”; “Women and Collecting” etc.

Evaluation of the chemical composition and structure of asphaltenes from there offshore brazilian biodegrades heavy oils
Asphaltenes fractions were extracted and purified from three heavy Brazilian oils. Their mass compositions of C, H, N, Ni and V were obtained from elemental analysis and S and O atomic percentages from EDS. The H/C ratios showed high degree of unsaturation, while the O atomic percentages indicated more pronounced biodegradation effects on two samples. Quantitative data on N, Ni, and V and semi-quantitative data on S were related to oils origins. The structural data of asphaltenes were explored by combining Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). The oil with the lower degree of biodegradation contained asphaltenes with a lower level of condensed aromatic rings and longer aliphatic chain substituents. The asphaltenes obtained from the two most biodegraded oils showed similarities of polar groups and the presence of carboxylic functions, as well as lower contents of aliphatic substituents. The quality and quantity of occluded hydrocarbons were assessed after the mild oxidation of the separated asphaltenes fractions. It was suggested that the severe biodegradation which altered these structures may also be responsible to affect their occluded hydrocarbons
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in HIV patients: Risk factors associated with colonization and/or infection and methods for characterization of isolates - a systematic review
Staphylococcus aureus is an important cause of infections and HIV-infected individuals are frequently susceptible to this pathogen. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review to identify both the risk factors associated with colonization/infection by methicillin-resistant S. aureus in HIV patients and the methods used for characterization of isolates. An electronic search of articles published between January 2001 and December 2013 was first conducted. Among 116 studies categorized as being at a quality level of A, B or C, only 9 studies were considered to have high methodological quality (level A). The majority of these studies were retrospective (4/9 studies). The risk factors associated with colonization/infection by S. aureus were use of antimicrobials (4/9 studies), previous hospitalization (4/9 studies) and low CD4+ T lymphocyte counts
CORE BIOPSY NO DIAGNÓSTICO PRÉ-OPERATÓRIO DE CÃES PORTADORES DE NÓDULOS CUTÂNEOS DE ORIGEM EPITELIAL
Skin tumors are the most common neoplasms in dogs and there are several classifications of them. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of cut needle Super Core II® (14-ga x 9cm) in the histopathologic diagnosis of cutaneous nodules of epithelial origin in dogs when compared with the histopathologic findings of surgical specimens analyzed. A total of 32 skin nodes were histologically analyzed. The biopsy specimens and skin nodules were classified according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and there were 71,87% of nodes identified as neoplasms. To diagnose neoplasms, the core biopsy showed 85.2% sensitivity, 100% specificity, a positive predictive value of 100%, and a negative predictive value of 55.55%. The Fisher exact test showed p<0.0001 for the identification of neoplasms and malignant tumors, which confirms the concordance between the results obtained by both methods in the classification of tumors. Therefore, the biopsy is an effective method for the classification of cutaneous tumors of epithelial origin.
Averting biodiversity collapse in tropical forest protected areas
The rapid disruption of tropical forests probably imperils global biodiversity more than any other contemporary phenomenon¹⁻³. With deforestation advancing quickly, protected areas are increasingly becoming final refuges for threatened species and natural ecosystem processes. However, many protected areas in the tropics are themselves vulnerable to human encroachment and other environmental stresses⁴⁻⁹. As pressures mount, it is vital to know whether existing reserves can sustain their biodiversity. A critical constraint in addressing this question has been that data describing a broad array of biodiversity groups have been unavailable for a sufficiently large and representative sample of reserves. Here we present a uniquely comprehensive data set on changes over the past 20 to 30 years in 31 functional groups of species and 21 potential drivers of environmental change, for 60 protected areas stratified across the world’s major tropical regions. Our analysis reveals great variation in reserve ‘health’: about half of all reserves have been effective or performed passably, but the rest are experiencing an erosion of biodiversity that is often alarmingly widespread taxonomically and functionally. Habitat disruption, hunting and forest-product exploitation were the strongest predictors of declining reserve health. Crucially, environmental changes immediately outside reserves seemed nearly as important as those inside in determining their ecological fate, with changes inside reserves strongly mirroring those occurring around them. These findings suggest that tropical protected areas are often intimately linked ecologically to their surrounding habitats, and that a failure to stem broad-scale loss and degradation of such habitats could sharply increase the likelihood of serious biodiversity declines. Keywords: Ecology, Environmental scienc
