Journalistic revolution in Lucena: Producción and Luceria

En este artículo se ha realizado un estudio minucioso de las dos publicaciones que existieron en Lucena, municipio ubicado al sur de la provincia de Córdoba, durante la época del franquismo: Luceria y Producción. Así, se pretende dar a conocer la realidad periodística de la localidad durante el periodo comprendido desde el año 1939 hasta 1975, tomando como base la hemeroteca digitalizada de ambos periódicos, así como testimonios de redactores que trabajaron en las cabeceras durante la época y cronistas del municipio. El 1 de enero de 1953 aparecerá Producción, acabando con los 16 años de silencio periodístico en Lucena. De esta forma, el pueblo contará con publicaciones locales, tras el fin de Ideales en el año 1938. Producción desaparecerá y resurgirá de nuevo bajo el nombre de Luceria hasta su cese definitivo en 1973. Así, esta investigación pretende rescatar la historiografía de la prensa escrita en el municipio, contribuyendo a paliar la escasez de estudios y trabajos sobre esta temática.In this article I have done a meticulous study of both publications that existed in Lucena, municipality located in the south of the province of Cordova, during the epoch of the Franco's regime: Luceria and Production. So, in this work I have wanted to announce the journalistic reality of the locality lucentina during the period understood from the year 1939 to 1975, taking as a base the newspaper library digitized of both newspapers, as well as journalist testimonies that were employed at the head-boards during the epoch and chroniclers of the locality. On January 1, 1953 Production will appear, finishing with 16 years of journalistic silence in Lucena. Of this form, the municipality will have local press, after the end of Ideales in the year 1938. Production will disappear and will appear again under Luceria's name to his definitive cessation in 1973. This investigation tries to rescue the historiography of the written press in the municipality, helping to relieve this way the shortage of studies of this subject matter

INFECTIOUS DISEASES ARE SLEEPING MONSTERS: Conventional and culturally adapted new metaphors in a corpus of abstracts on immunology

In this paper we examine the role played by metaphor in a corpus of sixty abstracts on immunology from Scientific American. We focus on the distinction between conventional metaphors and culturally adapted new metaphors and discuss the role played by metaphor choice in the communicative purposes of the abstracts and their register features. We argue that one of the main strategies used to attract the reader‘s attention is the combination of highly conventionalized metaphors, which occur more frequently in the corpus, together with what we call “culturally adapted new metaphors”, which display different degrees of creativity and are less frequent in the corpus. Conventional metaphors typically reinforce the world view shared by the scientific community and introduce basic ideas on the subject of immunology. Culturally adapted new metaphors include a cline from slightly new perspectives of conventional models, to highly creative uses of metaphor. Culturally adapted new metaphors appeal primarily to a general readership and not to the scientific community, as they tap human emotions and mythic constructions. These play a crucial role in the abstracts, as they contribute to persuasive and didactic communicative functions in the text

Estudio sobre diferencias de género en el aula de matemáticas

Este proyecto indagó sobre las relaciones de género entre las y los profesores y las y los estudiantes en el aula de matemáticas, y cómo éstas influyen en el desempeño académico de ellos y ellas. Esta investigación se realizó en dos instituciones mixtas de la ciudad de San Juan de Pasto, y la información fue recolectada por medio de entrevistas y observaciones dentro del aula de clase, las cuales se analizaron desde un punto de vista cualitativo y cuantitativo. Finalmente, se espera que esta investigación contribuya a crear conciencia sobre esta problemática y a mejorar las relaciones en el salón de clase de matemáticas entre docentes y estudiantes, tomando en cuenta las diferencias de género

Tracking the dynamic nature of learner individual differences: Initial results from a longitudinal study

Individual differences (IDs) have long been considered one of the most important factors explaining variable rates and outcomes in second language acquisition (Dewaele, 2013). While traditional operationalizations of IDs have, explicitly or implicitly, assumed that IDs are static traits that are stable through time, more recent research inspired by complex dynamic systems theory (Larsen-Freeman, 1997, 2020) demonstrates that many IDs are dynamic and variable through time and across contexts, a theme echoed throughout the current issue. This study reports the initial semester of a diachronic project investigating the dynamicity of four learner IDs: motivation, personality, learning and cognitive styles, and working memory. In the initial semester, data from 323 participants in their first year of university-level Spanish were collected and analyzed to determine what type of variability may be present across learners with respect to the four IDs studied at one time point and to discern possible learner profiles in the data or patterns via which the data may be otherwise meaningfully described.
