Los efectos éticos de la escritura creativa: un modelo de implementación crítica de ejercicios literarios para estímulo de la empatía
Concerning the ethical effects of literature, the work coming from literary studies, both in its traditional theoretical bent as well as in its attempt at empirical validation, has privileged the processes of reception on the readers side, making it a focal point of its interest, and has concentrated less on the consequences that the act of writing itself has on its actors. It is worth stating that the pole of production has been an object of inquiry of special interest to the subgenre of poetics, autobiographical writings and authorial roles and has been overlooked as a space of individual ethical transformation. This space has instead been the object of interest of disciplines such as psychology, pedagogy and memory studies. The present methodological article aims to offer elements of theoretical rumination and information compiled with qualitative research tools that allows a deepening in the comprehension of the nexus between creative writing and the increase of empathy. Strictly speaking, it corroborates the thesis that creative writing can in fact contribute to the development of empathy of its actors, at least in what pertains to (with its limitation, of course) their self-perception; and it postulates that in the vast catalog of writing tools that stimulate its practice, there are a kind of exercises that are more effective than others. This article also ventures in a model of critical implementation of the aforementioned writing exercises that may be used as a didactic sequence in formative spaces
“Commerce clause”, elemento caracterizador del federalismo
The federal state model has multiple substantial differences that distinguish it from other traditional
state models, mainly because it has a dual structure based on the division of political power, in order to
provide greater sovereignty to the states that comprise it, especially with regard to the electoral system and its
legislative exclusivity. In this context, the trade clause stands out, which, failing that, does limit the autonomy
of said States, in terms of commercial relations, because it subjects them to federal control. Therefore, the
objective of this work was to analyze the dual structure of federalism, especially with respect to the trade
clause, in order to determine that the autonomy of the States is subject to federal control. The methodology
used was: Deductive method, descriptive scope, through a qualitative approach due to being post-positivist,
due to the hermeneutical interpretation of the documents examined. It is concluded that the “commerce
clause” is a characterizing element of federalism, however, it constitutes a limitation to the autonomy of
the Federated States, since it subjects commercial relations to federal control, for this reason, it restricts the
principle of sovereignty.

Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2
The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, individuals with clonal mosaic events (clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations and/or loss of chromosome Y) showed an increased risk of COVID-19 lethality

Vulneración a la libertad de expresión: caso los jinetes del apocalipsis
The present is a study about the pronouncement issued by the Inter-American Court of Human
Rights, in front of the expressions expressed by the former president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,
Hugo Chávez, who in use of his office, qualified the officials of the Radio Caracas channel Television, as
“horsemen of the apocalypse”, disqualifying them as terrorists. The reason of these epithets was that the
aforementioned channel, resisted to present the false news of Venezuela, that the regime sought to impose
with the clear object of confusing the population, instead, presented real news, which at the request of the
ex-leader It was harmful. The objective of this paper is to contrast with doctrines the opinions of the exleader,
to show how dangerous this media lynching is to the media. The methodology used in the research
is deductive, exploratory and descriptive, using a qualitative approach. Among the results highlights that
the expressions of the ex-president, transgress the theory that supports the freedom of expression, as it tries
to silence the opinion of people in the social environment, also violating the theory of self-government
of a democratic society. It is concluded that the expressions expressed by the former president, have no
foundation whatsoever.
Self-perceived health and quality of life by activity status in community-dwelling older adults
Geriatrics & Gerontology International, VOLUMEN: 14, Nº 2, Pág. inicial: 464 Pág. final: 473 FECHA: 2014Aim: The present study aimed at analyzing whether activity status is associated with self-perceived health status and
quality of life (QoL) in community-dwelling older adults.
Methods: We used a cross-sectional design based on a semi-structured QoL questionnaire in a representative
sample of 1106 community-dwelling adults aged 60 years and older in Spain. Logistic regression models were used
to explain the association of activity status with self-perceived health status and QoL, assessed by means of the
EQ-5D-3L index, controlling for the influence of sociodemographic, social and support network variables, and health
indicators.
Results: The mean age ± standard deviation was 72.1 ± 7.8 years. For the activity status, 8.5% were working people,
53.7% retirees, 30.6% homemakers and 7.2% pensioners. All homemakers and 93.6% pensioners were women. In
the model to assess perceived health status, when controlling for sociodemographic, social and support network
variables, we found that working people rated their health better than the retired group. In this model, pensioners
rated their health status worst, whereas homemakers did not show any significant difference compared with the
retired group. However, there were no differences in the model of QoL by activity status.
Conclusion: Activity status was associated with self-perceived health status, but not with QoL. This study draws
attention to the need of considering the activity of older adults for actions aimed at maintaining and improving their
health.Peer reviewe
Self-perceived health status, gender, and work status
This study analyzes the relationship between gender and self-perceived health status in Spanish retirees and housewives from a sample of 1,106 community-dwelling older adults. A multivariate linear regression model was used in which self-perceived health status was measured by the EQ-5D visual analogue scale and gender according to work status (retired men and women and housewives). Retired males reported a significantly better health status than housewives. Self-perceived health status was closely associated with physical, mental, and functional health and leisure activities. Finally, being a woman with complete dedication to domestic work is associated with a worse state of self-perceived health. This study was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (National R&D&I Plan [grant numbers ref. SEJ2006-15122-C02-00]). Dr. Forjaz had full access to all the data in the study and takes responsibility for the integrity of the data and the accuracy of the data analysi
Gamification for the Acquisition of Leadership Skills and Formation of Efficient Work Teams: An Interactive Workshop Based on an Analysis of the Film “The Seven Samurai”
In this work, we present a teaching experience based on emerging pedagogies and gamification to improve leadership skills and achieve efficient teamwork in scientific-technical areas of Engineering Projects. We designed the contents of a workshop and a virtual tool to create emotional contexts that improved the acquisition of soft skills. The combination of multi-sensory pedagogical strategies and hybrid inductive-deductive methodologies based on tests and team games, inspired by the story line of the classic film "The Seven Samurai" (Kurosawa, 1954), allowed us both to carry out, over a period of two academic years, an “on-the-ground” workshop-game, and a virtual tool to interact in the workshop, while under the COVID-19 restrictions. Despite the different formats and gamification elements used over the two academic years, the metrics for evaluating the efficiency of acquiring these soft skills produced very positive results and, on the whole, did not show significant differences. The cinematographic language and empathy with the story and the characters led the students to identify with and internalize the elements of efficient teamwork and leadership. Movies can provide simple but effective narrative lines on which to build games. Here, we present the contents and details of both workshops as a transferable experience, as well as making the open virtual tool available for the educative community
Integrating morphological and genetic data at different spatial scales in a cosmopolitan marine turtle species: Challenges for management and conservation
Patterns of genetic structure in highly mobile marine vertebrates may be accompanied by phenotypic variation. Most studies in marine turtles focused on population genetic structure have been performed at rookeries. We studied whether genetic and morphological variation of the endangered green turtle (Chelonia mydas) is consistent geographically, focusing on foraging grounds. An association between population genetic structure and body shape variation at broad (inter-lineage) and fine (foraging grounds) scales was predicted and analysed using mitochondrial DNA and geometric morphometrics. Although genetic and phenotypic differentiation patterns were congruent between lineages, no fine-scale association was found, suggesting adaptive divergence. Connectivity among Pacific foraging grounds found here suggests that temperatures of ocean surface currents may influence the genetic structure of C. mydas on a broad scale. Our results suggest that vicariance, dispersal, life-history traits and ecological conditions operating in foraging grounds have shaped the intraspecific morphology and genetic diversity of this species. Considering a range of geographic and temporal scales is useful when management strategies are required for cosmopolitan species. Integrating morphological and genetic tools at different spatial scales, conservation management is proposed based on protection of neutral and adaptive diversity. This approach opens new questions and challenges, especially regarding conservation genetics in cosmopolitan species.Financial support for this study was provided by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research of Chile (CONICYT), Núcleo Milenio de Ecología y Manejo Sustentable de Islas Oceánicas (ESMOI), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), RUFFORD Small Grant, IDEA WILD, Chilean Government Environmental Protection Fund (FPA), the Vice-Rectory of Research of the University of Costa Rica through the Integral Network of Marine Turtles in the Eastern Pacific (RITMA), The Leatherback Trust, Veritas University, Surfari del Mar, Centro de Rescate de Especies Marinas Amenazadas (CREMA), Turner Foundation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, DEFRA Darwin Initiative, Sea Life Trust and the Institute of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Massey University.
