The active species Cp(NPtBu3)TiMe(mu-MeB(C 6F5)4) and [Cp(NPtBu3)TiMe] [B(C6F5)4], generated by the reaction of Cp(NPtBu3)TiMe2 with the activators B(C 6F5)3 and [C(C6H5) 3][B(C6F5)4], are thought to be the active species in olefin polymerization processes. Both species have been stabilized by the coordination of Lewis bases, pyridines (Py, 4-EtPy, 4- tBuPy, and 4-DMAP) and tertiary phosphines (PMe3, PnBu 3, P(C6H5)3, P(p-CH 3C6H4)3). The use of such Lewis bases allowed for the isolation and characterization of ion pair complexes of the general formula [Cp(NPtBu3)TiMe·LB] [RB(C 6F5)3] (LB = Lewis base; R = Me, C6F 5). These reactions show a dependency on the steric properties of the Lewis base. The use of sterically bulky tertiary phosphines (P(o-CH 3C6H4)3, PiPr3 , PCy3 and PtBu3) demonstrated this dependency, affording unexpected phosphonium salts as products. The role of the reaction solvent (dichloromethane and chlorobenzene) is evaluated in these reactions. Dichloromethane reacts with the reagents (active titanium complexes and Lewis bases), promoting the formation of unexpected products (some of these species are characterized). However, chlorobenzene allows a better control of the reactions between the activated complex and Lewis bases. The dimerization products [{Cp(NPtBu3)TiMe} 2(mu-Cl)] [RB(C6F5)3] (R = Me, C 6F5) (2.18), [{Cp(NPtBu 3)Ti(mu-Cl)2}][RB(C6F5)3] 2 (2.21) and [{Cp(NPtBu3)TiMe} 2(mu-Me)] [RB(C6F5)3] (2.23 ) of the cationic moiety of the active complexes [Cp(NPtBu 3)TiMe]+ showed also to be dependent on the reaction conditions and solvent. Reactions of Lewis acids (B(C6F5)3 and [C(C6H5)3][B(C6F5) 4] with Lewis bases (substituted pyridines and tertiary phosphines) are also described. A similarity in reactivity between B(C 6F5)3 and the trityl carbocation is observed, as the products afforded from these reactions are analogous. Reactions of Lewis acids and Lewis bases were found to be related to the steric bulk associated with the Lewis base in conjunction with the solvent, CH2Cl 2.Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Background Hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis Polyneuropathy is a rare life-threatening neurologic disease that imposes considerable mortality and it is associated with progressive related disabilities. In this study, we aimed to assess the effect of the disease across health-related quality of life dimensions, in both carriers of the mutation and patients, to compare health-related quality of life with general population, as well as to explore health-related quality of life prognostic factors among patients, including disease progression and treatment. Methods This study was a multi-institutional, longitudinal, prospective, observational study of hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis Polyneuropathy Portuguese adult subjects (621 asymptomatic carriers and 733 symptomatic patients) enrolled in the Transthyretin Amyloidosis Outcomes Survey. Health-related quality of life was captured with the preference-based instrument EQ-5D-3 L. For general population the dataset included all subjects enrolled in a representative national study (n = 1500). Different econometric models were specified; multivariate probit, generalized linear model and generalized estimating equations model; including demographic and clinical covariates. Results Hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis Polyneuropathy patients have their health status severely impaired in all quality of life dimensions and more anxiety/depression problems were found among asymptomatic carriers. No differences on utility were found between carriers and general population (p = 0.209). Among patients, the utility value is estimated to be 0.51 (0.021), a decrement of 0.27 as compared with general population utility. Higher disease duration, advanced disease stage and not receiving treatment are associated with impaired health-related quality of life. No differences were found between genders (p = 0.910) or between late (≥50 years) and early-onset patients (p = 0.254). The utility estimate ranged from 0.63 (0.009) in stage I to 0.01 (0.005) in stage IV. Conclusions Hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis Polyneuropathy symptoms and progressive associated disabilities substantially decrease patient’s health-related quality of life. Clinical strategies focused on health-related quality of life preservation such as close follow-up of asymptomatic carriers, prompt diagnosis and adequate, early treatment would benefit patient’s long-term outcomes, slowing the progressive decline in health-related quality of life.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Ecological approaches to textile dyeing: a review

    Get PDF
Conventional dyeing processes currently practiced in the textile industry have a great environmental impact, mainly in relation to the quantity and pollution of water, use of toxic chemicals, atmospheric emissions, and high energy consumption. This study aims to discuss the relationship between the variables that involve conventional dyeing processes and environmental issues. It presents the mapping of the materials and emerging technologies for ecological coloration, specifically for the pretreatment and dyeing stages. Regarding pretreatment, it discusses biochemical (enzymes) and physical treatment (ultraviolet radiation, plasma, and ozone technology) approaches. With respect to the dyeing processes, it addresses ecological materials (natural dyes) and emerging technologies (such as plasma, supercritical CO2, AirDye®, ultrasonic, microwave, Nano-DyeTM, and electrochemical). Given the importance of ecological coloration, this study provides important reflections on the urgency of resolving issues related to barriers and economic viability in the implementation of the alternatives presented and demonstrates the need to develop educational projects to prepare fashion and textile professionals.Project UID/CTM/00264/2021 of 2C2T (the Centre for Textile Science and Technology), which is funded by national funds through FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology)

Selfie ante literam: the draugtsman’s self-representation in the description de l’Égypte, and the birth of Romanticism in architectural vedute

[EN] The allure of the vedute, those picturesque depictions of buildings, monuments and towns which were so fashionable during the XVIII and XIX centuries, goes well beyond their aesthetic value. They represent a paramount source of knowledge, since they do not provide ex-ternos information uniquely, namely on the appearance of a particular building or landscape at a particular moment, but also in-ternos information, i.e. on how they were perceived by their contemporaries (Puche et alii 2017) and even on the draugtsman’s self-perception. In this work, the self-perception of the draughtsmen who joined Napoleon’s expedition to Egypt will be examined. In the course of that mission, not only a monument and its surroundings, but also the documentation process itself and the associated adventurous spirit were portrayed systematically for the first time.[ES] Las vedute, esas imágenes pintorescas de edificios, monumentos y ciudades típicas de los siglos XVIII y XIX generan una fascinación que va más allá de su valor estético. Puche Fontanilles, JM.; Lara Ayala, I.
