Dependency Mapping Software for Jira, Project Management Tool
Efficiently managing a software development project is extremely important in industry and is often overlooked by the software developers on a project. Pieces of development work are identified by developers and are then handed off to project managers, who are left to organize this information. Project managers must organize this to set expectations for the client, and ensure the project stays on track and on budget. The main block in this process are dependency chains between tasks. Dependency chains can cause a project to take much longer than anticipated or result in the under utilization of developers on a project. While project managers do have access to project management tools, few have capabilities to effectively visualize dependencies. The goal of this research was to interact with a project management tool\u27s API, pull down dependency information for a project, and build out possible timelines for a set of tasks. We visualize this problem with a directed graph, where each node is a task and edges in the graph indicate dependencies. The relationships between this problem and more well-known problems in graph theory are used to inform the development of the algorithms. Two algorithms are explored to handle the problem and are then run under different conditions. Analysis of the results provide insight to what structures of dependency chains can be handled by the algorithms. The resulting software could be used to save companies both time and money when planning software development projects
Pengines: Web Logic Programming Made Easy
When developing a (web) interface for a deductive database, functionality
required by the client is provided by means of HTTP handlers that wrap the
logical data access predicates. These handlers are responsible for converting
between client and server data representations and typically include options
for paginating results. Designing the web accessible API is difficult because
it is hard to predict the exact requirements of clients. Pengines changes this
picture. The client provides a Prolog program that selects the required data by
accessing the logical API of the server. The pengine infrastructure provides
general mechanisms for converting Prolog data and handling Prolog
non-determinism. The Pengines library is small (2000 lines Prolog, 150 lines
JavaScript). It greatly simplifies defining an AJAX based client for a Prolog
program and provides non-deterministic RPC between Prolog processes as well as
interaction with Prolog engines similar to Paul Tarau's engines. Pengines are
available as a standard package for SWI-Prolog 7.Comment: To appear in Theory and Practice of Logic Programmin
Fabrication and repair of graphite/epoxy laminates
New forming and patching methods have been developed for high-quality graphite/epoxy laminates. Laminates range in thickness from 0.012 to 0.018 in. (0.31 to 0.46 mm)
Deer mandible tools: an examination of Oneota modified mandibles from La Crosse County, Wisconsin
This study focuses on the modified deer mandibles that have been recovered at late prehistoric Oneota sites over the last few decades by the M.V.A.C. in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. The purpose of this study is to clarify through experimentation the function of Oneota tools made from deer mandibles.
Of the numerous deer mandibles and deer mandible fragments that have been recovered from Oneota context in the La Crosse locality there are a set of five deer mandibles, which show signs of heavy wear along the fracture of the bone marrow cavity where they were broken, presumably to obtain the marrow. These artifacts were found at the Pammel Creek site (47Lc61), the Valley View site (47Lc34), and the Gundersen Lutheran site (47Lc394), and the Sand Lake site (47Lc44). Experimental use demonstrated that the Oneota mandibles were identified as hide scrapers, which were used to soften leather for hide working
Places that Matter: Place Attachment and Wellbeing of Older Antillean Migrants in the Netherlands
It has been argued that attachment to place increases wellbeing in old age (Wiles et al., 2009). Feeling ‘in place’ can increase an older person's wellbeing. For older migrants it can be a challenge to live in-between cultures. The objective of the article is to explore how older Antillean migrants derive a sense of wellbeing from attachment to their everyday places. We do so by drawing on in-depth interviews and a photography project with Antilleans who live in a senior cohousing community in a city in the Northern Netherlands. Based on the study, we conclude that the cohousing community acted as a central setting of experience from which the participants explored their wider surroundings and developed new attachments in the neighbourhood
School Naming Rights and the First Amendment’s Perfect Storm
In the past five years, public schools across the country have begun to explore a new avenue of fundraising: selling naming rights to school facilities. The popularity and monetary value of these sales, however, only highlight the importance of the First Amendment concerns they raise. This Article uses school naming rights as a lens through which to examine the conflicts between government speech, commercial speech, and forum analysis, three categories of First Amendment analysis that are simultaneously and problematically implicated by school naming rights sales. Courts and scholars have long noted the internal ambiguities within these three categories, but have not yet explored the sometimes irreconcilable conflicts among them. As the growth of school naming rights shows, government sponsorship arrangements collapse many of the artificial divisions between the First Amendment’s categories and demonstrate the need for a better understanding of the categories’ interactions. This Article identifies—and attempts to resolve—some of the border disputes between these poorly defined and increasingly important areas of First Amendment law
Notes on Mayfly Nymphs from Northeastern Minnesota Which Key to \u3ci\u3eStenonema Vicarium\u3c/i\u3e (Ephemeroptera: Heptageniidae)
(excerpt)
A review of the literature indicates that Stenonema vicarium (Walker) adults have not been collected from northeastern Minnesota. However, mayfly nymphs which key to that species, based on the descriptions in Lewis (1974), have been collected from many streams in the area which are also inhabited by nymphs of the closely related species, Stenonema fuscum (Clemens)
