Holographic phase transition from dyons in an AdS black hole background
We construct a dyon solution for a Yang-Mills-Higgs theory in a 4 dimensional
Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black hole background with temperature T. We then
apply the AdS/CFT correspondence to describe the strong coupling regime of a
2+1 quantum field theory which undergoes a phase transition exhibiting the

Feasibility study to characterize the production of antineutrons in high energy collisions through charge exchange interactions
Simulations to evaluate the feasibility of identification and
kinematic characterization via the hadronic charge exchange (CEX) interaction
are reported. The target neutrons are those
composing the silicon nuclei of which inner tracking devices present in LHC
experiments are made. Simulations of collisions in PYTHIA were carried out
at different energies to investigate production and the expected
energy spectra. Then, two types of GEANT4 simulations were performed,
placing an point source at the ALICE primary vertex as a working
example. In the first simulation, the was kept at an arbitrary (1 GeV)
fix value to develop an identification and kinematics reconstruction
protocol. The second GEANT4 simulation used the resulting PYTHIA at
TeV energy spectra. In both simulations, the
occurrence of CEX interactions was identified by the unique outgoing .
The simplified simulation allowed to estimate a 0.11% CEX-interaction
identification efficiency at GeV. The CEX-partner identification
is challenging because of the presence of silicon nucleus-fragmentation
protons. Momentum correlations between the and all possible
pairs showed that CEX-partner identification and
kinematics reconstruction corresponds to minimal momentum-loss events. The use
of ITS information is found to improve identification and
kinematic characterization in both simulations. The final protocol applied to
the realistic simulation resulted in a identification and kinematic
reconstruction efficiency of 0.006%, based solely on pair
observable. Thus, the expected rate of identified and kinematically
reconstructed should lie in the order of 100,000 per second,
illustrating the feasibility of the method.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figure
Bosonic Field Propagators on Algebraic Curves
In this paper we investigate massless scalar field theory on non-degenerate
algebraic curves. The propagator is written in terms of the parameters
appearing in the polynomial defining the curve. This provides an alternative to
the language of theta functions. The main result is a derivation of the third
kind differential normalized in such a way that its periods around the homology
cycles are purely imaginary. All the physical correlation functions of the
scalar fields can be expressed in terms of this object. This paper contains a
detailed analysis of the techniques necessary to study field theories on
algebraic curves. A simple expression of the scalar field propagator is found
in a particular case in which the algebraic curves have internal symmetry

Diversity and Benefits of Arbuscular Mycorrhizae in Restored Riparian Plantations
Due to the increasing use of vegetation for fuel wood, cattle, agriculture, and due to population pressure that negatively affects biodiversity values, more plantations are needed to obtain a permanent vegetal cover. Attention has been paid to microbial interactions (arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM)) for management and inoculation. To evaluate the benefits of inoculation, the root colonization of inoculated seedlings, soil aggregation, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) diversity were examined by two field treatments (fertilized with organic matter (OM) vs. fertilized with natural rock phosphate (P)). The preserved and experimental areas presented higher AMF spore number and richness (nine species) than the degraded areas. The addition of OM or P did not improve root colonization by AMF; however, it was a guarantee for a successful restoration as, in the restored fields, a high soil aggregation was found, in addition to a high root colonization, spore number, and richness of AMF. However, the undisturbed site presented the more prominent values. This study showed that AMF are important components in riparian areas, and it brings information for inoculant production in ecological restoration using mixed plantations, contributing to the establishment of mycorrhizal vegetation and soil aggregation that not only benefit AM plants, but also allow non-host plants in degraded areas.Fil: Pagano, Marcela. Buffalo Sensory Analysis of Meat in the City of Medellin, Colombia, South America
The aim of this study was to determine the organoleptic properties of meat buffaloes in the town of Medellin, Colombia. It was a methodology employed with satisfaction hedonic scale of five-point verbal. GLM method was employed, with the technical MANOVA, with the orthogonal contrasts canonical, determining the dimensionality, in that the response variables were expressed by the criterion of maximum likelihood. The analysis was complemented through the technique of Spearman, using the SAS statistical package version 9.0. In making, the MANOVA, for the response variables smell, taste, tact and general appearance of the product found no statistical differences (p> 0.05). However, the variables above presented statistical relationship (p <0.05), when the ANOVA analysis for each gender. The Spearman correlation coefficient showed that there are significant correlations between the different responses, for both men and women. This result indicates that the meat buffaloes, will present a good acceptance by the general public and therefore an acceptable marketing in the city of Medellin

Post-translational flavinylation is associated with diverse extracytosolic redox functionalities throughout bacterial life
Disparate redox activities that take place beyond the bounds of the prokaryotic cell cytosol must connect to membrane or cytosolic electron pools. Proteins post-translationally flavinylated by the enzyme ApbE mediate electron transfer in several characterized extracytosolic redox systems but the breadth of functions of this modification remains unknown. Here we present a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis of 31,910 prokaryotic genomes that provides evidence of extracytosolic ApbEs within ~50% of bacteria and the involvement of flavinylation in numerous uncharacterized biochemical processes. By mining flavinylation-associated gene clusters, we identify five protein classes responsible for transmembrane electron transfer and two domains of unknown function (DUF2271 and DUF3570) that are flavinylated by ApbE. We observe flavinylation/iron transporter gene colocalization patterns that implicate functions in iron reduction and assimilation. We find associations with characterized and uncharacterized respiratory oxidoreductases that highlight roles of flavinylation in respiratory electron transport chains. Finally, we identify interspecies gene cluster variability consistent with flavinylation/cytochrome functional redundancies and discover a class of âmulti-flavinylated proteins'' that may resemble multiheme cytochromes in facilitating longer distance electron transfer. These findings provide key mechanistic insight into an important facet of bacterial physiology and establish flavinylation as a functionally diverse mediator of extracytosolic electron transfer

Human motion analysis is a tool used to understand orthopaedic disabilities in children and to plan and monitor treatment strategies. It enables clinicians to quantitatively describe rehabilitative progress, plan surgeries, and conduct research. While this technology is prevalent in major academic medical centers, access is lacking in many regions throughout the world. This paper presents a novel approach to offer more accessible technology at greatly reduced cost. Current applications are underway in the Philippines, Mexico, and Colombia.
