An inter model distance for clustering utility function
Conjoint Analysis is one of the most widely used techniques in the assessment of the consumer’s behaviors. This method allows to estimate the partial utility coefficients according to a statistical model linking the overall note of preference with the attribute
levels describing the stimuli. Conjoint analysis results are useful in new-product positioning and market segmentation. In this paper a cluster-based segmentation strategy based on a new metric has been proposed. The introduced distance is based on a convex linear combination of two Euclidean distances em bedding information both on the estimated parameters and on the model fitting. Market segments can be then defined according to the
proximity of the part-worth coecients and to the explicative power of the estimated models
Linking migraine to gut dysbiosis and chronic non-communicable diseases
In the world, migraine is one of the most common causes of disability in adults. To date, there is no a single cause for this disorder, but rather a set of physio-pathogenic triggers in combination with a genetic predisposition. Among the factors related to migraine onset, a crucial role seems to be played by gut dysbiosis. In fact, it has been demonstrated how the intestine is able to modulate the central nervous system activities, through the gut-brain axis, and how gut dysbiosis can influence neurological pathologies, including migraine attacks. In this context, in addition to conventional pharmacological treatments for migraine, attention has been paid to an adjuvant therapeutic strategy based on different nutritional approaches and lifestyle changes able to positively modulate the gut microbiota composition. In fact, the restoration of the balance between the different gut bacterial species, the reconstruction of the gut barrier integrity, and the control of the release of gut-derived inflammatory neuropeptides, obtained through specific nutritional patterns and lifestyle changes, represent a possible beneficial additive therapy for many migraine subtypes. Herein, this review explores the bi-directional correlation between migraine and the main chronic non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, obesity, cancer, and chronic kidney diseases, whose link is represented by gut dysbiosis
Thermal Conductivity Enhancement of Al2O3 Nanofluid in Ethylene Glycol and Water Mixture
AbstractThe ability of nanofluids that exhibits enhanced thermal performance is acknowledged by researchers through studies since decades ago. However, the observation of thermal properties for nanofluids in water and ethylene glycol based is not fully explored yet. Hence, this paper presents the thermal conductivity of water and ethylene glycol (EG) based Al2O3 nanofluid. The 13 nm sized Al2O3 nanoparticles were dispersed into three different volume ratio of water: EG such as 40:60, 50:50 and 60:40 using a two-step method. The measurement of thermal conductivity was performed using KD2 Pro Thermal Properties Analyzer at working temperatures of 30 to 70 ĚŠC for volume concentration of 0.5 to 2.0%. The results indicate that the thermal conductivity increases with the increase of nanofluid concentration and temperature. While the percentage of ethylene glycol increase, the range of thermal conductivity decreases due to ethylene glycol properties. The measurement data of the nanofluids give maximum enhancement of thermal conductivity at condition 2.0% volume concentration, temperature of 70 ĚŠC and for all base fluid
Many-body system with a four-parameter family of point interactions in one dimension
We consider a four-parameter family of point interactions in one dimension.
This family is a generalization of the usual -function potential. We
examine a system consisting of many particles of equal masses that are
interacting pairwise through such a generalized point interaction. We follow
McGuire who obtained exact solutions for the system when the interaction is the
-function potential. We find exact bound states with the four-parameter
family. For the scattering problem, however, we have not been so successful.
This is because, as we point out, the condition of no diffraction that is
crucial in McGuire's method is not satisfied except when the four-parameter
family is essentially reduced to the -function potential.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Design, construction, and quality tests of the large Al-alloy mandrels for the CMS coil
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is one of the general-purpose detectors to be provided for the LHC project at CERN. The design field of the CMS superconducting magnet is 4 T, the magnetic length is 12.5 m and the free bore is 6 m. Almost all large indirectly cooled solenoids constructed to date (e.g., Zeus, Aleph, Delphi, Finuda, Babar) comprise Al-alloy mandrels fabricated by welding together plates bent to the correct radius. The external cylinder of CMS will consist of five modules having an inner diameter of 6.8 m, a thickness of 50 mm and an individual length of 2.5 m. It will be manufactured by bending and welding thick plates (75 mm) of the strain hardened aluminum alloy EN AW-5083-H321. The required high geometrical tolerances and mechanical strength (a yield strength of 209 MPa at 4.2 K) impose a critical appraisal of the design, the fabrication techniques, the welding procedures and the quality controls. The thick flanges at both ends of each module will be fabricated as seamless rolled rings, circumferentially welded to the body of the modules. The developed procedures and manufacturing methods will be validated by the construction of a prototype mandrel of full diameter and reduced length (670 mm). (7 refs)
The Impact of Functional Bars and Adapted Physical Activity on Quality of Life in Chronic Kidney Disease: A Pilot Study
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a public health problem because it is characterized by several comorbidities, including uremic sarcopenia (US), and a poor quality of life. Currently, there are no standardized treatments available to counteract the onset of US but only some possible therapeutic approaches to slow its progression. The aim of this pilot study is to collect descriptive data in order to design a clinical trial based on the power analysis and simple size. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the possible beneficial action induced by the functional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant bars in combination with the adapted physical activity (APA), on the onset and progression of US and other related-CKD comorbidities. We enrolled 21 CKD patients under conservative therapy, divided into four groups: (A) the physical exercise program (PEP), three times a week, in combination with the daily consumption of the two functional bars group; (B) the PEP group; (C) the daily consumption of the two functional bars group; (D) the control group. The duration of the study protocol was 12 weeks. We observed an improvement trend of body composition, blood pressure levels, lipid metabolism, and functional test in A and B groups. These preliminary data would seem to confirm the effectiveness of APA and to demonstrate the additive role of the natural bioactive compound’s assumption in countering US and other CKD comorbidities
The Asiago-ESO/RASS QSO Survey. III. Clustering analysis and its theoretical interpretation
This is the third paper of a series describing the Asiago-ESO/RASS QSO survey
(AERQS), a project aimed at the construction of an all-sky statistically
well-defined sample of relatively bright QSOs (B<15) at z<0.3. We present here
the clustering analysis of the full spectroscopically identified database (392
AGN). The clustering signal at 0.02<z<0.22 is detected at a 3-4 sigma level and
its amplitude is measured to be r_0=8.6\pm 2.0 h^{-1} Mpc (in a LambdaCDM
model). The comparison with other classes of objects shows that low-redshift
QSOs are clustered in a similar way to Radio Galaxies, EROs and early-type
galaxies in general, although with a marginally smaller amplitude. The
comparison with recent results from the 2QZ shows that the correlation function
of QSOs is constant in redshift or marginally increasing toward low redshift.
We discuss this behavior with physically motivated models, deriving interesting
constraints on the typical mass of the dark matter halos hosting QSOs, M_DMH=
10^{12.7} h^{-1} M_sun (10^{12.0}-10^{13.5}h^{-1} M_sun at 1 sigma confidence
level). Finally, we use the clustering data to infer the physical properties of
local AGN, obtaining M_BH=2 10^8 h^{-1} M_sun (10^7-3 10^9 h^{-1} M_sun) for
the mass of the active black holes, tau_{AGN}= 8 10^6 yr (2 10^{6}-5 10^{7} yr)
for their life-time and eta = 0.14 for their efficiency (always for a LambdaCDM

Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry Fingerprinting of Extracts of the Leaves of Arrabidaea chica
Arrabidaea chica (crajiru) is an important Amazonian plant. Its extracts are used as red pigments, antimicrobial agents and astringents. Three different varieties of this species are cultivated in the Amazon region. In this work, direct infusions of A. chica extracts from these three varieties were analyzed via electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI(+)-MS) fingerprinting. Derived data from the spectra were classified by using a multivariate method (PLS-DA, partial least squares-discriminant analysis). The direct method that is herein presented relies on extraction of dry, powdered leaves with acidified methanol/water solution with no further sample preparation. The resulting supernatants were analyzed by direct infusion ESI(+)-MS, which provides characteristic fingerprints of the sample composition. 3-Deoxyanthocyanidins are important substances in A. chica, their ions were used as markers in the PLS-DA data treatment. PLS-DA was able to differentiate the three varieties.
