Foot temperature as a predictor of ulcers in Diabetes Mellitus
The Diabetic Foot is one of the most important complications of Diabetes Mellitus due to the possibility of
suffering a plantar ulcer that leads to an amputation.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy occurs in 60-70 % of subjects with Diabetes Mellitus and is characterized by a
disturbance of tactile and painful sensitivity, the alteration of the threshold of vibration and thermal perception for
temperature thresholds to heat and cold.
The temperature of the feet of subjects with Diabetes Mellitus without diabetic peripheral neuropathy is lower than
with the presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. There is a correlation between the increase in temperature and
the appearance of lesions on the feet, because the temperature increases in the areas of risk of ulceration due to the inflammation itself and to the enzymatic autolysis of the tissues, prior to the appearance of a ulceration of Charcot
arthropathy.
RESULTS: Currently, two types of temperature measurement techniques are used: thermography and thermometry.
Thermography tests are classified into thermo sensitive infrared liquid crystal plates, and the thermometry tests are
divided into infrared and thermal sensors.
The thermal assessment should be included in the neurological examination protocols of the feet in Diabetes Mellitus
because it is an effective, non-invasive test and decreases the rate of ulcer appearance.
CONCLUSIONS: It is considered that a difference of 2.2º C, in the same point of both because of a subject, indicates
the appearance of own injuries of the Diabetic Foot, either an ulceration if there is an injury, or a Charcot arthropathy.
Scientific evidence indicates that controlling the temperature of the feet decreases the rate of ulcerations in Diabetes
Mellitus. We advocate the inclusion of thermal assessment in the protocol of exploration of subjects with Diabetes
Mellitus, due to its effectiveness in the prevention of ulcerations and its short time of screening

External validation of a prognostic model based on total tumor load of sentinel lymph node for early breast cancer patients
Background: A prognostic model based on the results of molecular analysis of sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) is needed to replace the information that staging the entire axilla provided. The aim of the study is to conduct an external validation of a previously developed model for the prediction of 5-year DFS in a group of breast cancer patients that had undergone SLN biopsy assessed by the One Step Nucleic Acid Amplification (OSNA) method. Methods: We collected retrospective data of 889 patients with breast cancer, who had not received systemic treatment before surgery, and who underwent SLN biopsy and evaluation of all SLN by OSNA. The discrimination ability of the model was assessed by the area under the ROC curve (AUC ROC), and its calibration by comparing 5-years DFS Kaplan–Meier estimates in quartile groups of model predicted probabilities (MPP). Results: The AUC ROC ranged from 0.78 (at 2 years) to 0.73 (at 5 years) in the training set, and from 0.78 to 0.71, respectively, in the validation set. The MPP allowed to distinguish four groups of patients with heterogeneous DFS (log-rank test p < 0.0001). In the highest risk group, the HR were 6.04 [95% CI 2.70, 13.48] in the training set and 4.79 [2.310, 9.93] in the validation set. Conclusions: The model for the prediction of 5-year DFS was successfully validated using the most stringent form of validation, in centers different from those involved in the development of the model. The external validation of the model confirms its utility for the prediction of 5-year DFS and the usefulness of the TTL value as a prognostic variable. This study was supported by Sysmex España S.L
A novel hydrogel-based connection mechanism for soft modular robots
Connection mechanisms are crucial in reconfigurable robots. In this work, we present
a novel approach, based on the self-healing property of a hydrogel synthesized by our
group, which allows us to easily attach and detach robotic modules using water as
the only trigger element. Our connection mechanism does not need external energy
to work and it is reversible and soft, being useful for soft modular robots. Tensile,
fatigue and adhesion tests are presented to demonstrate the mechanical performance
of our mechanism. Two modular soft robots, manipulator and snake, are featured to
show the functionality of our approach.

Hydrogel-based soft pneumatic bending actuator with self-healing and proprioception capabilities
Proprioception is a necessary skill in robots and especially complicated
in soft robots. It is commonly achieved by adding an external complement
to the robotic structure that acts as a sensor. In this work, we present an
approach in which the material itself (a cationic network hydrogel) serves
as a structure and as a curvature sensor in a soft pneumatic bending
actuator. The experiments carried out validate the use of the resistive
strain capacity of our hydrogel as a proprioceptive sensor. We believe that
this sensing capacity, together with the high stretchability and self-healing
capability of our material makes our approach an interesting alternative
for the development of soft actuators.La propiocepción es una habilidad necesaria en los robots y especialmente complicada

enfoque en el que el propio material (un hidrogel de red catiónico) sirve
como estructura y como sensor de curvatura en un actuador neumático blando de flexión.

BMN vacua, superstars and non-abelian T-duality
Acting with non-Abelian T-duality on the inside the subspace of
with units of flux, we generate a new half-BPS solution
with symmetry that belongs to the Lin-Lunin-Maldacena class of
geometries. The analysis of the asymptotics, quantised charges and probe branes
in this geometry suggests an interpretation as the gravity dual to the
Berenstein-Maldacena-Nastase Plane Wave Matrix Model, in a particular vacuum
associated to a partition of , in which the multiplicity of each
irreducible representation is equal to its dimension. This vacuum is
interpreted in M-theory in terms of giant gravitons backreacting in the
maximally supersymmetric pp-wave geometry. Consistently with this, we show that
the non-Abelian T-dual solution exactly agrees with the Penrose limit of the
superstar solution in . This suggests an interesting global
completion of the non-Abelian T-dual solution in terms of an M5-brane geometry.Comment: 28 pages, discussion in section 5.1 improved, results unchanged,

Morpho-physiological characteristics of corn (Zea mays L.) affected by drought during its vegetative stage
Objective: To evaluate the response corn hybrids have on their growth of aerial and root parts, transpiration, and water use efficiency during their early vegetative stage in irrigation and drought conditions.Design/methodology/approach: A randomized complete block design with a factorial arrangement, threerepetitions, three corn hybrids and two humidity levels were used. The evaluated variables were: plant height, leaf area, root length, dry weight of the aerial and root part of the plants, efficiency in the water use and totalplant transpiration. Results: The leaf area and dry weight data of the aerial parts of the assessed plants were greater in irrigationthan in drought; in contrast, root length, dry root weight and water use efficiency were higher in drought. SV 3245 registered a higher total transpiration per plant; SV 3243 and ASGROW 7543 showed higher dry weight in their aerial parts; ASGROW 7543 accumulated a greater dry weight at their roots and was more water usage efficient. The experiments indicated interaction for root length, dry root weight and efficiency in water use.Limitations on study/implications: The drought caused seedlings’ death at 28 days after sowing (dds), therefore, it was not possible to continue the evaluations from then on.Findings/conclusions: The drought decreased the growth of the aerial parts of the plants and increased the root system and efficiency in their water usage
