Background: The Zung’s rating instrument for anxiety disorders has been used in several Colombian researches. Its
internal consistency and factor structure have not been reported among university students.
Objective: To calculate the internal consistency and explore the factor structure of three versions of the Zung’s rating
instrument for anxiety disorders among university students.
Method: Two-hundred and twenty-one medicine and psychology students of a private university in Cartagena, Colombia,
completed the 20-item version of the Zung’s rating instrument for anxiety disorders. The mean of age of students was 20.5
years (SD=2.6), 64.4% were women, and 54.3% studied medicine. Cronbach alpha was computed and exploratory factor analysis
was done for the three versions.
Results: The 20-item version of the Zung’s rating instrument for anxiety disorders presents Cronbach alpha coefficient
of 0.77 and three principal factors accounted for 40.1% of the total variance. The 10-item version showed Cronbach alpha of
0.83 and two-dimensional structure responsible of 54.0% of the total variance. The 5-item version showed Cronbach alpha
of 0.74 and one-dimensional structure accounted for 49.5% of the total variance.
Conclusions: The 10- and 5-item version of the Zung’s rating instrument for anxiety disorders present better psychometric
properties than the original 20-item version. It is necessary to estimate the properties of these versions compared with a gold
standard.
Clean energies, also known as renewable energies,
can be produced with minimum social, cultural, health, and
environmental impacts. The aim of this study is to design an
electric generator powered by pedaling a bicycle to charge small
electronic devices through a USB port, as an alternative to reduce conventional energy consumption at homes in San Sebastian. The study is qualitative, descriptive in scope and was applied to (30) students of the San Sebastián School. The main
conclusion is that the students have managed to raise awareness
in the community of San Sebastián on the use of alternative energies through their participation in events such as fairs, as an
active way to help reduce pollution and to combat climate change
on the planet.
Prevalence of comorbidity in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Comorbidity is common in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); however, the relationship between comorbidity and quality of life is inconsistent. The objective was to establish the prevalence of comorbidity and the relationship with the quality of life of patients with COPD in Santa Marta, Colombia. A cross-sectional study was designed in which in which participated outpatients diagnosed with COPD. Quality of life was evaluated with the CAT (COPD Assessment Test) instrument; scores higher than ten were considered poor quality of life. The sample was of 292 patients, in ages between 49 and 95 years; 61.6% male. A group of 232 participants (79.5%) presented some comorbidity associated with COPD. Quality of life was reduced in 192 patients (65.8%). Comorbidity did not significantly add to the quality of life (OR = 1.33, 95% CI 0.72-2.45), adjusted for age and sex. It is concluded that comorbidity is very frequent; however, it does not affect the quality of life in patients with COPD in Santa Marta. More research is needed with more participants.
Tachyonic open inflationary universes
We study one-field open inflationary models in a universe dominated by
tachyon matter. In these scenarios, we determine and characterize the existence
of the Coleman-De Lucia (CDL) instanton. Also, we study the Lorentzian regime,
that is, the period of inflation after tunnelling has occurred.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures. Accepted by Physics Letters
Tachyon warm inflationary universe model in the weak dissipative regime
Warm inflationary universe model in a tachyon field theory is studied in the
weak dissipative regime. We develop our model for an exponential potential and
the dissipation parameter =constant. We describe scalar and
tensor perturbations for this scenario.Comment: 9 pages, accepted by European Physical Journal
Exclusive light particle measurements for the system F + C at 96 MeV
Decay sequence of hot {31}^P nucleus has been investigated through
exclusive light charged particle measurements in coincidence with individual
evaporation residues using the reaction {19}^F (96 MeV) + {12}^C.
Information on the sequential decay chain have been extracted by confronting
the data with the predictions of the statistical model. It is observed from the
present analysis that such exclusive light charged particle data may be used as
a powerful tool to probe the decay sequence of the hot light compound systems.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, Physical Review C (in press
Resistênce no treinadores alto desempenho
entrenador de atletismo podrÃan influir en la presencia de elevados niveles de resilienciaThe objectives of this study are: 1) Describe the levels of resilience in athletics
coaches of high performance; 2) determine the levels of reliability of data obtained with the
selected sample; 3) compare the results with previous studies. An adaptation of the interview for
Ruiz´s (2004) coaches and an adaptation to Castilian scale Wagnield Resilience and Young (1993)
was administered. 30 (28 men and 2 women) Spanish coaches of high performance athletics
were evaluated. The results show high levels of resilience (M = 141, SD = 11.54). Comparison with
previous studies show significant differences in the total score of resilience and Factor I Personal
Competence. Reliability levels found are similar to previous studies. We conclude that the
specific work requirements of athletic trainer could influence the presence of high levels of
