Isospin-Violating Meson-Nucleon Vertices as an Alternate Mechanism of Charge-Symmetry Breaking
We compute isospin-violating meson-nucleon coupling constants and their
consequent charge-symmetry-breaking nucleon-nucleon potentials. The couplings
result from evaluating matrix elements of quark currents between nucleon states
in a nonrelativistic constituent quark model; the isospin violations arise from
the difference in the up and down constituent quark masses. We find, in
particular, that isospin violation in the omega-meson--nucleon vertex dominates
the class IV CSB potential obtained from these considerations. We evaluate the
resulting spin-singlet--triplet mixing angles, the quantities germane to the
difference of neutron and proton analyzing powers measured in elastic
scattering, and find them commensurate to those computed
originally using the on-shell value of the - mixing amplitude.
The use of the on-shell - mixing amplitude at has been
called into question; rather, the amplitude is zero in a wide class of models.
Our model possesses no contribution from - mixing at , and
we find that omega-meson exchange suffices to explain the measured

Numerical Portrait of a Relativistic Thin Film BCS Superfluid
We present results of numerical simulations of the 2+1d Nambu - Jona-Lasinio
model with a non-zero baryon chemical potential mu including the effects of a
diquark source term. Diquark condensates, susceptibilities and masses are
measured as functions of source strength j. The results suggest that diquark
condensation does not take place in the high density phase mu>mu_c, but rather
that the condensate scales non-analytically with j implying a line of critical
points and long range phase coherence. Analogies are drawn with the low
temperature phase of the 2d XY model. The spectrum of the spin-1/2 sector is
also studied yielding the quasiparticle dispersion relation. There is no
evidence for a non-zero gap; rather the results are characteristic of a normal
Fermi liquid with Fermi velocity less than that of light. We conclude that the
high density phase of the model describes a relativistic gapless thin film BCS

Effect of lead acetate on Sertoli cell lactate production and protein synthesis in vitro
The effects of lead acetate on protein synthesis and lactate production by cultures of rat Sertoli cells in vitro were studied. Sertoli cell cultures prepared from 20 day old Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 0.01, 0.05 and 0.10 mM lead acetate. Lactate production was significantly elevated by all concentrations of lead after 3, 6, 9 and 12 hours of exposure. Protein biosynthesis as measured by [ 3 H]-leucine incorporation was significantly depressed by 0.05 and 0.10 mM lead acetate after 2 hours of exposure. Projected WIMP sensitivity of the LUX-ZEPLIN dark matter experiment
LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a next-generation dark matter direct detection experiment that will operate 4850 feet underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, USA. Using a two-phase xenon detector with an active mass of 7 tonnes, LZ will search primarily for low-energy interactions with weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), which are hypothesized to make up the dark matter in our galactic halo. In this paper, the projected WIMP sensitivity of LZ is presented based on the latest background estimates and simulations of the detector. For a 1000 live day run using a 5.6-tonne fiducial mass, LZ is projected to exclude at 90% confidence level spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross sections above 1.4 × 10-48cm2 for a 40 GeV/c2 mass WIMP.
Additionally, a 5σ discovery potential is projected, reaching cross sections below the exclusion limits of recent experiments. For spin-dependent WIMP-neutron(-proton) scattering, a sensitivity of 2.3 × 10−43 cm2 (7.1 × 10−42 cm2) for a 40 GeV/c2
mass WIMP is expected. With underground installation well underway, LZ is on track for commissioning at SURF in 2020
Elliptic Flow of Identified Hadrons in Au+Au Collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV
The anisotropy parameter v_2, the second harmonic of the azimuthal particles
distribution, has been measured with the PHENIX detector in Au+Au collisions at
sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV for identified and inclusive charged particles at central
rapidities (|eta| < 0.35) with respect to the reaction plane defined at high
rapidities (|eta| = 3-4). The v_2 for all particles reaches a maximum at
mid-centrality, and increases with p_T up to 2 GeV/c and then saturates or
decreases slightly. Our results depart from hydrodynamically predicted behavior
above 2 GeV/c. A quark coalescence model is also investigated.Comment: 325 authors, 6 pages text, RevTeX, 3 figures, 0 tables. This version
