Analysis of the Relationship between Tourism and Food Culture

    Get PDF
In recent years, gastronomy has established itself as one of the key elements for the enhancement, sustainable and consolidation of tourist destinations. The aim of this paper is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge on gastronomic tourism in European countries, specifically in the analysis of the relationship between gastronomy, culture and tourism as the research focuses on the city of Córdoba, Spain. The methodology of this research involved conducting surveys with foreign travelers who were lunching or dining at various restaurants in the historic area, and these facilities were characterized by having in their gastronomic menus major typical culinary products of the city using the concept of tapas, i.e., the presentation of gastronomy through small portions of food. The results of the study indicate that the healthy component of the gastronomy represents the main dimension. Based on the detected dimensions, three types of international visitors are established (healthy-cultural tourist, cultural tourist and generic tourist) which are considered valid and useful for segmenting the market. This highlights the importance given to gastronomy by tourists as part of the cultural identity of a place and the satisfaction achieved through the gastronomy of the city of Córdoba

The chapter is organized in three sections. In a first instance, a general overview of the vinyl sulfone chemistry in terms of the most relevant methods of synthesis and aspects of their reactivity will be followed by a discussion of the application of this chemical behaviour with proteins. Their advantages and disadvantages with other currently available methodologies to modify amine and thiol groups naturally present in proteins will be compared. In a second section the applications of vinyl sulfones to Proteomics will be enumerated. Finally, the wide scope of the vinyl sulfone chemistry in other omic sciences will be discussed. The authors acknowledge Dirección General de Investigación Científica y Técnica (DGICYT) (CTQ2008-01754) and Junta de Andalucía (P07-FQM-02899) for financial support

Spectral Response of Metallic Optical Antennas Driven by Temperature

    Get PDF
When optical antennas are used as light detectors, temperature changes their spectral response. Using this relation, we determine the spectrum of a light beam from an optical antenna’s signal. A numerical evaluation of the temperature-spectral response has been completed with a model for the noise of the device. Using both the response and the noise model, we have established the capabilities of the device by quantifying the error in the spectrum determination both for broadband spectrum and monochromatic radiation

Optimum Bayesian thresholds for rebalanced classification problems using class-switching ensembles

    Get PDF
Asymmetric label switching is an effective and principled method for creating a diverse ensemble of learners for imbalanced classification problems. This technique can be combined with other rebalancing mechanisms, such as those based on cost policies or class proportion modifications. In this study, and under the Bayesian theory framework, we specify the optimal decision thresholds for the combination of these mechanisms. In addition, we propose using a gating network to aggregate the learners contributions as an additional mechanism to improve the overall performance of the system. We thank the anonymous reviewers for their valuable suggestions and comments. Estudio sobre las motivaciones para la práctica de la escalada en roca

    Get PDF

Aphasia with anatomical isolation of the language area: A reanalysis on the light of modern neuroimaging techniques

    Get PDF
Introduction : Goldstein (1948) and Geschwind (1968), based in data derived from anatomical post-mortem studies, postulated that the disconnection of the perisylvian language areas (PSLA) from other cortical areas was responsible for impairments in spontaneous speech and language comprehension with preservation of verbal repetition and echolalia (isolation of speech area). Nevertheless, other mechanisms (right hemisphere or bilateral hypotheses) underlying echolalic repetition have been proposed. Herein, we examined the structure and function of the PSLAs in two cases of aphasia with echolalic repetition and isolation of the left PSLA. Methods : Two patients with chronic post-stroke aphasia associated to isolation of the left PSLA were studied. Both patients underwent cognitive-language assessment and multimodal imaging. In patient 1 (p1), structural MRI, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), functional MRI (fMRI) during repetition of words and non-words, resting state fMRI (rsfMRI) were acquired, whereas only structural MRI was performed in patient 2 (p2). The Tractotron software was used to examine the severity of disconnection in each language-related white matter tract in both patients. We quantified the severity of the disconnection by measuring the proportion of each tract that was affected. 18FDG-PET was also acquired in both patients. Results : P1 had a mixed transcortical aphasia and p2 had a transcortical sensory/anomic aphasia. In both, the MRI showed separate left anterior and posterior lesions with relative preservation of the PSLA. In both, 18FDG-PET revealed significant decrements of metabolic activity in areas of the left PSLA, although some parts showed normal metabolic activity. In p1 the left arcuate fasciculus (AF) and the inferior fronto-occipital fasciculi (IFOF) could not be reconstructed. fMRI showed perilesional activity in the left hemisphere and increased activity in the right during word repetition. rsfMRI showed compensatory activity in both hemispheres (right greater than left). Analysis with the Tractotron software revealed disconnection of both the AF and the IFOF in the left hemisphere of both patients. Discussion : Although some parts of the left PSLA had preserved metabolic activity in both patients, our neuroimaging data revealed that preserved repetition ability did not rely exclusively on the residual activity of the left PSLA. In support, the connectivity between different components of the left PSLA was severely affected. This coupled with the increased metabolic activity of the right PSLA supports the bilateral hypothesis of residual repetition in transcortical aphasias. References : Goldstein, K. (1948). Optical refractive index and static permittivity of mixed Zr–Si oxide thin films prepared by ion beam induced CVD

    Get PDF
Mixed oxides ZrxSi1−xO2 (0bxb1) thin films have been prepared at room temperature by decomposition of (CH3CH2O)3SiH and Zr[OC (CH3)3]4 volatile precursors induced by mixtures of O2 + and Ar+ ions. The films were flat and amorphous independently of the Si/Zr ratio and did not present phase segregation of the pure single oxides (SiO2 and ZrO2). A 10–23 at.% of H and 1–5 at.% of C atoms remained incorporated in the films depending on the mixture ratio of the Si and Zr precursors and the composition of the bombarding gas used during the deposition process. These impurities are mainly forming hydroxyl and carboxylic groups. Optical refractive index and static permittivity of the films were determined by reflection NIR-Vis spectroscopy and C–V electrical characterization, respectively. It is found that the refractive index increases non-linearly from 1.45 to 2.10 as the Zr content in the thin films increases. The static permittivity also increases non-linearly from ∼4 for pure SiO2 to ∼15 for pure ZrO2. Optical and electrical characteristics of the films are justified by their impurity content and the available theories. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
