A firm-level analysis of differences between adopters and non-adopters of ICT

Information and Communication Technologies investments have drastically modified the competitive markets due to the impact on firm performance and productivity. This paper aims to analyse the differences between ICT adopter firms and non-adopter firms. OLS regressions and ordered logit models provide the methodological approach. From data based on a questionnaire survey to 327 Spanish firms in 2002, the empirical results indicate the essential role played by some variables in the ICT adoption. The results confirm, for example, the influence of variables such as firm size. The role of human capital and competitive strategies based on product and service quality are relevant in ICT adoption. The paper is organised as follows. First, the section 1 introduces the paper. The section 2 provides the establishment and explanation of the theoretical hypotheses. This section is followed in the section 3 by the methodology adopted in this study, including both the model and the data sources employed in the estimations. Some basic statistics and the results of the model estimations are presented and interpreted in the penultimate section, before concluding the paper with some remarks on the findings and important implications in the ICT adoption

Sector restaurantero: situación y oportunidades de mejora en la región Xalapa, Veracruz, periodo 2008-2009

En Xalapa el turismo se ha convertido en una de las actividades clave para apuntalar el crecimiento económico y la generación de empleos, por lo que el gobierno estatal promueve diversos programas para su desarrollo, en específico en el sector restaurantero, el cual en los últimos años se ha visto afectado por una serie de situaciones y dificultades para mantenerse competitivo y subsistir. Estos aspectos impulsaron el desarrollo de un proyecto de investigación para identificar y describir el estado actual de dicho sector, así como las áreas de oportunidad, con la finalidad de reconocer y proponer estrategias para enfrentar con ventajas los retos y aprovechar las oportunidades; de tal manera que estén en condiciones de permanecer y crecer competitivamente en este sector.In Xalapa, tourism has become one of the key activities to underpin economic growth and employment generation, so that the state government promotes several programs for development, specifically the restaurant industry, as in recent years affected by a number of situations and challenges to stay competitive and survival. Aspects behind the development of a research project to identify and explain the current state of the sector and the area of opportunity, in order to identify and propose strategies to deal with the challenges and benefits opportunities, in such so they are able to stay competitive and grow in this sector

Análisis zooarqueológico de material precolombino e histórico: un caso de estudio de la Ciudad de México

In 2011 during rescue archaeological excavations of the Power Federal Commission of Mexico City, some remains were discovered with mixed contexts. The purpose of this paper is to identify the temporality (precolumbian or historical) of the fauna in the site. The study covers the zooarchaeological and taphonomic analysis of a sample of 387 bone fragments.Durante las actividades de salvamento arqueológico ante trabajos de obras de cableado subterráneo por parte de la Comisión Federal de Electricidad de la Ciudad de México (2011), quedaron expuestos restos óseos pertenecientes a contextos mezclados. Integración de la gestión de activos físicos en empresas manufactureras de Manizales

El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo establecer el grado de integración de la gestión de activos físicos en empresas manufactureras de Manizales. Por medio de un estudio cuantitativo y un estudio de tipo exploratorio y descriptivo, ya que se realizó un sondeo sobre el estado de la gestión de activo en el sector manufacturero de Manizales, tema en el cual no se encuentran antecedentes particulares. La investigación aplicó un instrumento de evaluación, validado previamente con una de las empresas y alineado a la guía internacional ISO 55000. La organización y análisis de los datos obtenidos permitió identificar las acciones realizadas en las diferentes empresas que están en línea con una posible implementación de la norma. Los resultados que se obtuvieron corresponden a una integración del 75% para la gran empresa y de un 61% para la mediana empresa; obteniendo un porcentaje global del 66%. Lo que permite inferir que las empresas evaluadas presentan grandes falencias y debilidades en cuando a la práctica de acciones para la implementación de un adecuado SGA. Se encontraron grandes brechas entre la mediana y gran empresa a la hora de gestionar los activos y la información a partir de ellos.The objective of this work was to establish the degree of integration of physical asset management in manufacturing companies in Manizales. Through a quantitative study and an exploratory and descriptive study, since a survey was conducted on the status of asset management in the manufacturing sector of Manizales, a topic in which no particular background is found. The research applied an evaluation instrument, validated previously with one of the companies and aligned with the ISO 55000 international guide. The organization and analysis of the data obtained allowed to identify the actions carried out in the different companies that are in line with a possible implementation of the rule. The results obtained correspond to an integration of 75% for the large company and 61% for the medium-sized company; obtaining an overall percentage of 66%. This allows us to infer that the companies evaluated have major shortcomings and weaknesses in the practice of actions for the implementation of an adequate SGA.
