Parafrase restructuring of FORTRAN code for parallel processing

    Get PDF
Parafrase transforms a FORTRAN code, subroutine by subroutine, into a parallel code for a vector and/or shared-memory multiprocessor system. Parafrase is not a compiler; it transforms a code and provides information for a vector or concurrent process. Parafrase uses a data dependency to reveal parallelism among instructions. The data dependency test distinguishes between recurrences and statements that can be directly vectorized or parallelized. A number of transformations are required to build a data dependency graph

RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ROTATOR CUFF STRENGTH PARAMETERS AND THROWING VELOCITY OF COLLEGE BASEBALL PLAYERS

Pitching a baseball is a complex, highly skilled movement that has been divided into four stages by sports researchers. In examining the throwing motion, researchers have: 1) attempted to find the most significant muscle groups of the upper extremity that contribute to throwing velocity (Jobe, 1987; Pedegna, 1982 and Toyoshima and Hoshikawa, 1974); 2) concluded that the shoulder and internal and external rotator groups are the most significant contributors to the throwing motion (Alderink and Kuck, 1986; Cain, Mutschler, Fu and Lee, 1987, Cook, Gray, Savinar-Nogue, Medeiros, 1987, and Pappas, Zawacki and MacCarthy, 1985); and 3) demonstrated that the motions of shoulder rotation are important during tht throwing performance (Atwater, Feltner and Dapena, 1986; Gainor, 1980; and Tullos and King, 1973)

Characterization of the State of Hydrogen

Fermionic path integral Monte Carlo simulations have been applied to study the equilibrium properties of the hydrogen and deuterium in the density and temperature range of 1.6 < rs < 14.0 and 5000K < T < 167000K. We use this technique to determine the phase diagram by identifying the plasma, the molecular, atomic and metallic regime. We explain how one can identify the phases in the path integral formalism and discuss the state of hydrogen for 5 points in the temperature-density plane. Further we will provide arguments for the nature of the transitions between the regimes.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, proceedings of 9th International Workshop on the Physics of Nonideal Plasmas, Rostock, Germany, September 199

Isolation and cloning of the Sordaria macrospora ura3 gene and its heterologous expression in Aspergillus niger

    Get PDF
We report the isolation and molecular characterization of the ura3 gene encoding orotidine monophosphate decarboxylase (OMPD) from Sordaria macrospora. Pulsed field gel electrophoresis and Southern hybridization revealed that the ura3 gene is located on chromosomes VI / VII of S. macrospora. A functional analysis of the S. macrospora ura3 gene was performed by DNA transformation using an Aspergillus niger pyrA mutant as recipient strain

Rebreathing Used for Cardiac Output Monitoring Does Not Increase Heart Rate

    Get PDF
The partial rebreathing method for cardiac output determination produces short periods of elevated arterial CO2 content. Because previous work had shown that elevated etCO2 levels increased cardiac output, mostly due to heart rate increases, a concern was raised that the rebreathing periods could be inducing an elevated heart rate. This could also raise the cardiac output (CO), since CO = (Heart Rate) X (Stroke Volume). We studied 93 patients in the OR and the ICU who had undergone a total of 5142 partial rebreathing measurements by the NICO2 monitor (Novametrix Medical Systems) to determine whether the heart rate was raised, even if transiently, during the monitored period. Our conclusion was that the rebreathing periods caused no detectable change in the heart rate

Conflict-free strides for vectors in matched memories

    Get PDF
Address transformation schemes, such as skewing and linear transformations, have been proposed to achieve conflict-free access to one family of strides in vector processors with matched memories. The paper extends these schemes to achieve this conflict-free access for several families. The basic idea is to perform an out-of-order access to vectors of fixed length, equal to that of the vector registers of the processor. The hardware required is similar to that for the access in order.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
