    ANALYSIS OF NEUTRON FIELDS GENERATED IN SPALLATION TARGETS OF B-URAN EXPERIMENTAL ASSEMBLY USING MONTE CARLO METHOD

    The aim of this paper is to introduce experimental assembly B-URAN and the results of Monte Carlo simulations of neutron fields, which will be generated by using various spallation targets. This experimental assembly was constructed in Joint Institute of Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russian Federation, in order to study accelerator driven systems fundamental characteristics. Beam of 660 MeV protons should be used for that purpose. The MCNP model of such set-up has been developed at Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic. The goal is to get data needed for prediction of reaction rates in detectors placed in B-URAN experimental channels. Such data will be experimentally validated later. Furthermore, simulations of radiation exposure around this xperimental assembly were performed

    Influence of different curing methods on the fatty acid composition in sausages prepared from red deer meat

    These curing agents play a decisive role in obtaining the specific sensory properties, stability and hygienic safety of products such as fermented sausages, ham and, more recently, emulsion type of sausages. The effect of using two different curing agents (sodium chloride and nitrate) on fatty acid compounds in dry-cured deer meat was investigated in our study. The concentration of free fatty acids in the fat depends on the hydrolytic activity of the lipases, the microbial metabolic processes, and the oxidative reactions that work on the free fatty acids released in the lipolysis. The main identified fatty acids in all different types of curing were palmitic acid (16 : 0), oleic acid (c18 : 1 cis-9), stearic acid (C18 : 0). The resulting n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio in the muscle samples of red deer showed no variation in different types of curing and was beneficially low within the range of 3.9 : 1 and 4.49 : 1. Total free fatty acids, whether saturated, monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fatty acids, did not increased (p >0.05) greatly through the processing of dry-cured deer meat. Also there was no effect of curing method on fatty acids composition in two different muscles Semitendinosus muscle (ANOVA, p >0.05, F - 0.003, F crit. - 3.041) and Triceps brachii muscle (ANOVA, p >0.05, F - 0.05, F crit. - 3.01). There were found no significant (p >0.05) differences between fatty acids content in sausages prepared by brining in NaCl and Nitrate salt. The present study revealed that game meat can function as a good source of bioactive compounds that are essential for human nutrition

    The article deals with the principle of using gyrotheodolite in connection and orientation measurements. It describes orientation measurements with gyrotheodolite, provides basic information about the device and explains how it works. The first part describes gyrotheodolite and methods of determining astronomical true north. The workflow for measurement and subsequent data processing is described below. In the second part, two orientation measurements are described and processed. Finally, the accuracy achieved and the possibility to use the device for activities other than mine measurement are assessed

    Characterization of randomly oriented strand boards manufactured from juvenile wood of underutilized wood species

    The wood-based panel industry in Europe, which is dominated by the use of Norway spruce, will face new challenges due to environmental changes and the bark-beetle calamity, which started a new era of forestry. To explore the possibility of replacing spruce with other wood species, juvenile wood of nine underutilized wood species (Scots pine, European larch, poplar, willow, alder, birch, European beech, English oak and hornbeam) were used to make randomly oriented strand boards (OSBs). Single-layer OSBs were produced with 3% pMDI resin and 0.5% wax. Standard physical and mechanical properties were measured. The bending strength (MOR) values showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the values for, on the one hand, spruce (34.6 MPa) and, on the other, larch (25.9 MPa), poplar (25.2 MPa), willow (27.8 MPa), alder (34.3 MPa) or birch (27.1 MPa). A similar trend was found for the boards modulus of elasticity (MOE). The highest MOE values of 5,185 MPa and 4,472 MPa were found for spruce and alder, respectively. There was no significant difference between spruce and other wood species in internal bond strength. Boards made from high-density wood species showed better physical performance, whereas those made from low-density wood species (except pine) gave better mechanical properties. Strand-generalized characteristics, such as the slenderness ratio and specific surface, were analyzed for all investigated physical and mechanical properties. European larch, poplar, willow, and alder are potential wood species for manufacturing OSBs in future without mixing species, as they can replace spruce in the wood-based panel industry.OA-hybri

    Generated heat by different targets irradiated by 660 MeV protons

    Calorimetric experiments have been performed to analyze different thick targets of natU, C, Pb material, irradiated by 660 MeV protons at the Phasotron accelerator facility, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia. The method of online temperature measurement has been compared with MCNPX 2.7.0 simulation and selected with Ansys Transient Thermal Simulation to compare measured temperature with the simulated one. Thermocouples type T and E have been used as a temperature probe. Many different positions have been measured for each target. Temperature results are following very well the processes inside of the cylinders. Changes of heat deposition caused by drops of the proton beam intensity are displayed very well as a jagged line shown in almost every chart.
