Atlantisz filozófiai könyvprogram = Atlantisz Publishing Project for Philosophy

A támogatás időtartama alatt elvégzett feladatok, kutatások eredményei érdemben járultak hozzá a magyar társadalomtudományi kultúra és felsőoktatás fejlesztéséhez. A publikált művek a hazai egyetemek, főiskolák tananyagai lettek. Olyan szerzők életművével, korábban magyarul hozzáférhetetlen alapművekkel gazdagodott a felsőoktatás, melyek a következő évtizedek kutatásait is döntően meghatározzák. A hiánypótló alapművek: Platón: Phaidrosz; A szofista; I. Kant: A tiszta ész kritkája, G. W. F. Hegel: Előadások a művészetfilozófiájáról c. kötete, F. Nietzsche: Korszerűtlen elmélkedéseinek első teljes magyar kiadása, F. Schiller: Művészet- és történelemfilozófiai írások, E. Cassirer: A felvilágosodás filozófiája. A vallásfilozófia alapszövege, D. Hume: Beszélgetések a természetes vallásról c. műve Ludassy Mária tanulmányával jelent meg, a pszichiátria születéstörténetét feltáró M. Foucault-mű: A bolondság története több diszciplína alapkönyve lett. Megjelent a 20. századi német történelemfilozófia két, Magyarországon korábban ismeretlen gondolkodójának egy-egy fontos kötete: H. Blumenberg: Hajótörés nézővel, J. Ritter: Szubjektivitás. A francia történettudomány nagy hatású professzorának középkorról írt fontos művének: Európa születése a középkorban érdemi munkái is befejeződtek. A magyar társadalomtudományi gondolkodásban meghatározó szerzők művei: Parlando, valamint Tengelyi László: Tapasztalat és kifejezés c. kötetében kerültek összefoglalásra. | During the period of support, the tasks and research agendas we have completed contributed to the progress of Hungarian higher education and social science research to a considerable extent. The titles we have published are on the reading lists of major universities and colleges. The editions of authors whose oeuvre or individual works have been made available for the first time to Hungarian readers will determine trends in the decades to come. They include Phaidros and The Sophist by Plato; The Critique of Pure Reason by Kant; Lectures on the Philosophy of Art by Hegel; the first full Hungarian edition of Untimely Reflections by Nietzsche; Essays on the History and Philosophy of Art by Schiller; The Philosophy of Enlightenment by Cassirer. Hume's classic work on the philosophy of religion, Dialogues on Natural Religion, came out with an introduction by Maria Ludassy, while Foucault's History of Madness, an exploration of the birth of psychiatry, is becoming a basic text for students of several disciplines. We have also published two important twentieth-century German works in the philosophy of history: Shipwreck with Spectators by Blumenberg, and Subjectivity by Ritter. The bulk of the editorial work on The Masking of Europe in the Middle Ages by Le Goff has also been completed. Important trends in Hungarian philosophical thought are represented by Parlando, as well as Experience and Expression by László Tengelyi

The Lappon, the Scythian and the Hungarian, or our (former) selves as ‘others’. Philosophical history in eighteenth-century Hungary

This paper investigates some applications of the discursive patterns and the vocabulary of Enlightenment philosophical history to themes of national history at the beginning of the period of ‘national awakening’ in Hungary (1770s and 1780s). This innovative language was adopted from European models where it was developed in strict reliance on the achievements of the eighteenth-century sciences of man. At the same time, when applied to confronting a theory of linguistic kinship (Finno-Ugrianism) and by implication of national origins which was at variance with the inherited master narrative on the subject (Scythianism), became instrumental in reaffirming the traditional view. It did so by underpinning a quasi-racialist ‘othering’, characteristic of ethno-nationalist discourses of identity arising later on in the nineteenth century, and still preserving their vigour. In all of this, the political climate of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 1770s, and the fact that during this period the relevant trends of Enlightenment were predominantly embraced by nobles strongly attached to the ideology of social distinction posited by the above-mentioned master narrative, played important role

Maximilian Hell (1720–92) and the Ends of Jesuit Science in Enlightenment Europe

He was already famous by the time of his celebrated 1769 expedition for the observation of the transit of Venus in northern Scandinavia. However, the 1773 suppression of his order forced Hell to develop ingenious strategies of accommodation to changing international and domestic circumstances. Through a study of his career in local, regional, imperial, and global contexts, this book sheds new light on the complex relationship between the Enlightenment, Catholicism, administrative and academic reform in the Habsburg monarchy, and the practices and ends of cultivating science in the Republic of Letters around the end of the first era of the Society of Jesus

Od nekdaj sem si želel strniti svoje razumevanje delovanja slovenske znanosti in premisliti njegove glavne pomanj- kljivosti, hkrati pa predlagati tudi rešitve. Ker je od mojega vodenja Agencije za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije minilo nekaj let, zdaj to lahko naredim s primerne časovne distance in opozorim tudi na tiste dileme, o katerih v prejšnjih vlogah nisem javno razpravljal, saj sem ocenil, da bi to lahko oviralo njihovo reševanje in zato ne bi bilo konstruktivno. Knjigo torej jemljem kot priložnost, da povem vse, kar bi bilo po mojem mnenju smiselno ukreniti
