Performance Analysis of One-Level Signalized Urban Intersections with Exclusive Pedestrian Phases and Diagonal Crossings

The exclusive pedestrian (hereinafter P) phase with a diagonal crossing is routinely introduced to improve P safety at high-volume intersections. The article analyses and evaluates the feasibility of the exclusive P phase and diagonal crossing at single-level smaller intersections, identifying the advantages and disadvantages of the exclusive P phase and diagonal crossing from the point of view of time losses. In the experimental part, traffic flow modelling is carried out. The traffic flow simulations show that an exclusive P phase is most beneficial in terms of time losses at an intersection with 2+2 lane intersecting streets and ≥ 900 P/hour with ≥ 1600 vehicles/hour (hereinafter V). In addition, an exclusive P phase can be implemented at the small intersections analysed in this paper, where the volume of V is low or medium, regardless of the number of P at the intersection

Seasonal migration routes of little tern Sternula albifrons of the North European population tracked by geolocators

Darbe tiriamos mažosios žuvėdros (Sternula albifrons) Šiaurės Europos populiacijos sezoninės migracijos. Nors pastaraisiais metais Europoje pastebimas mažosios žuvėdros populiacijos gausos sumažėjimas, o Europos Sąjungoje išskirtinai rūpinamasi rūšies apsauga, tačiau vis dar labai paviršutiniškai (tik iš žiedavimo duomenų) žinoma apie šios rūšies sezoninių migracijų ypatumus. Pagrindinė mažosios žuvėdros nacionalinės populiacijos dalis Lietuvoje yra susitelkusi palei Nemuno upę – nuo Druskininkų iki priešakinės deltos. Tyrimo metu geolokacijos pagalba buvo nustatyti 8 pilni ir 4 nepilni migracijos maršrutai, kadangi geolokatoriai nustojo veikti individų pavasario migracijos metu. Pirmą kartą išaiškinta, kad Lietuvos (kaip ir visos Šiaurės Europos) mažosios žuvėdros rudenį migruoja pietvakarių-pietų vyraujančiomis kryptimis, o jų maršrutai į žiemovietes eina išimtinai Baltijos jūra ir jos priekrante bei Atlanto vandenyno priekrantėmis ir santykinai neplačiu sausumos ruožu. Mažųjų žuvėdrų populiacijos individų sezoninių migracijų maršrutai gretimais metais nėra visiškai pastovūs. Iš keturių analizuotų, trijų individų sezoninių migracijų maršrutai skyrėsi, o vieno buvo santykinai panašūs. Šio tyrimo duomenimis pirmą kartą buvo nustatyti Šiaurės Europos mažųjų žuvėdrų sezoninių migracijų koridoriai. Šiaurės Europos mažosios žuvėdros rudeninių migracijų koridorius (vertinant pagal 75 proc. kvantilį) nuo veisimosi vietovės tęsiasi pietvakarių kryptimi Vakarų Europos valstybėmis (apimant Baltijos ir Šiaurės jūrą, Jungtinės Karalystės pakrantes), Biskajos įlanką, Vakarų Ispanijos ir Portugalijos pakrantes bei Šiaurės Atlanto vandenynu ir baigiasi Vakarų Afrikos žemyne. Pavasario migracijos koridoriaus pradžia (vertinant pagal 75 proc. kvantilį) reikia laikyti Vakarų Afrikos žemyno siaurą sausumos ruožą Siera Leonės pietinėje dalyje ir šiose platumose Atlanto vandenyną iki 700 km atstumu nuo kranto. Toliau jis tęsiasi vyraujančia šiaurės kryptimi ir jo plotis gali varijuoti nuo žemyninės Vakarų Afrikos dalies, iki Žaliojo kyšulio, Kanarų ir Madeiros salų Šiaurės Atlanto vandenyne. Pietinėje Europoje koridorius apima Portugaliją, Vakarinę Ispanijos dalį ir kelių šimtų kilometrų pločio Atlanto vandenyno pakrantę. Vidurio Europoje į koridorių patenka Biskajos įlanka, Vidurio ir Vakarų Prancūzija bei Lamanšo sąsiauris ir Jungtinės Karalystės rytinėŠiaurinėje Europoje pavasarinis migracijos koridorius apima Šiaurės ir Baltijos jūras bei Vakarų Europą, didžiąją dalį Centrinės Europos ir Švedijos pietines pakrantes. Taip pasiekiama ir Vakarų Lietuva.The research investigates the seasonal migrations of the Northern European population of little terns (Sternula albifrons). Although the abundance of the little terns population has been declining in Europe in recent years and the protection of the species has been a major concern in the European Union, the peculiarities of seasonal migration of this species are still very superficial (only from ringing data). In Lithuania, too little is known about the breeding productivity of this rare bird species, the most important threats, and wintering regions. The main part of the national population of the little seagull in Lithuania is concentrated along the Nemunas River - from Druskininkai to the front delta. This species of birds during the transition period prefers abandoned, not overgrown beaches, dunes, islands made up of sand, gravel, rocks. During the study, 8 full and 4 incomplete migration routes were identified with the help of geolocations, as geolocators stopped working during the spring migration of individuals. It has been clarified for the first time that Lithuanian (like all of Northern Europe) small seagulls migrate in southwest-south-predominant directions, and their routes to wintering grounds run exclusively on the Baltic Sea and its coast and the Atlantic coast and a relatively wide stretch of land. The analyzed data showed that the seasonal migration routes of individuals of the tern population are not completely consistent in the adjacent years. Of the four analyzed, the seasonal migration routes of the three individuals were different and one was relatively similar. The Northern European Seagull Autumn Migration Corridor (75% quantile) extends southwest from the breeding area to the Baltic and North Seas, the United Kingdom coast, the Bay of Biscay, other European countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean and coast areas of the Baltic Sea and all of the above mentioned seas as well the Atlantic Ocean; the route extends from the western part of the African continent and along the coasts of the southern Atlantic to the southern main wintering grounds along Liberia. The beginning of the spring migration corridor is the West African continent and the Atlantic coast off Sierra Leone and Liberia; it continues northwards and may vary in width from mainland West Africa to the Atlantic coast until it reaches western or central Spain; then across the Bay of Biscay from central or western France and the countries of western Europe (including the coasts of the United Kingdom, the North and Baltic Seas, the southern coast of Sweden) to the northern breeding grounds.Švietimo akademij

The evaluation of road infrastructure for self-driving vehicles

The article deals with the problems of the use of self-driving vehicles (SDV) on public the adaptation of road infrastructures well as with, the necessity and objectives of assessment, and the experience of foreign countries in this field. The main factors influencing for SDV were analyzed. An evaluation model of infrastructure adaptation for SDV has been developed, allowing rational planning and selection of the most appropriate selfdriving public transport routes. In order to efficiently integrate SDV into transport systems, it is recommended to evaluate the potential route alternatives using the SAW method and also to use the efficiency indicators proposed in the thesis and their significance. After analyzing the theoretical and practical aspects of road infrastructure adaptation for SDV conclusions and suggestions are given. Article in Lithuanian. Kelių infrastruktūros pritaikymo savivaldėms transporto priemonėms vertinimas Santrauka Straipsnyje nagrinėjamos savivaldžių transporto priemonių (STP) naudojimo viešuosiuose keliuose ir kelių infrastruktūros pritaikymo jų eismui problemos, vertinimo būtinumas ir tikslai, užsienio šalių patirtis šioje srityje. Išnagrinėti pagrindiniai faktoriai, turintys įtaką savivaldžių automobilių eismui. Sukurtas STP infrastruktūros pritaikymo vertinimo modelis, leidžiantis racionaliai planuoti bei parinkti tinkamiausius savivaldžių viešojo transporto priemonių maršrutus.
