Jamming, relaxation and crystallization of a super-cooled fluid in a three-dimensional lattice

Off-equilibrium dynamics of a three-dimensional lattice model with nearest- and next nearest-neighbors exclusions is studied. At equilibrium, the model undergoes a first-order fluid-solid transition. Non-equilibrium filling, through random sequential adsorption with diffusion, creates amorphous structures and terminates at a disordered state with random closest packing density that lies in the equilibrium solid regime. The approach towards random closest packing is characterized by two distinct power-law regimes, reflecting the formation of small densely packed grains in the long time regime of the filling process. We then study the fixed-density relaxation of these amorphous structures towards the solid phase. The route to crystallization is shown to deviate from the simple grain growth proposed by classical nucleation theory. Our measurements suggest that relaxation is driven mainly by coalescence of neighboring crystallized grains which exist in the initial amorphous state

Artinian and non-artinian local cohomology modules

Let $M$ be a finite module over a commutative noetherian ring $R$. For ideals \fa and \fb of $R$, the relations between cohomological dimensions of $M$ with respect to \fa, \fb, \fa\cap\fb and \fa+ \fb are studied. When $R$ is local, it is shown that $M$ is generalized Cohen-Macaulay if there exists an ideal \fa such that all local cohomology modules of $M$ with respect to \fa have finite lengths. Also, when $r$ is an integer such that $0\leq r< \dim_R(M)$, any maximal element \fq of the non-empty set of ideals \{\fa : \H_\fa^i(M) is not artinian for some $i$, $i\geq r$$\}$ is a prime ideal and that all Bass numbers of \H_\fq^i(M) are finite for all $i\geq r$.Comment: 10 pages, to appear in Canadian Mathematical Bulleti

Bachilleratos Populares : Una propuesta de innovación escolar y su impacto en las dinámicas de desigualdad social y educativa

La presente ponencia propone dar a conocer un proyecto de investigación -en vigencia actualmente- centrado en abordar, en forma exploratoria y descriptiva, los Bachilleratos Populares (BP) entendidos como una forma de innovación escolar. Los BP son instituciones educativas no típicas que surgen a fines del siglo pasado como forma de rechazo y resistencia a las políticas reformistas neoliberales de la década del 90, y, en particular, aquellas del ámbito educativo. Asimismo, otras de las causas de surgimiento han sido para dar respuesta al creciente proceso de exclusión -deserción escolar- de los estudiantes de las escuelas regulares. La propuesta de los BP se centra en el paradigma pedagógico de la Educación Popular, proponiendo una educación ?politizada? en la cual se toma en cuenta tanto las particularidades contextuales como subjetivas de los estudiantes, con la intención de formar sujetos políticos-críticos, construyendo ciudadanía crítica. Siendo así, se propone problematizar, de manera incipiente, de qué manera las continuidades y rupturas entre estas instituciones y las escuelas regulares -en relación a sus currículums, formatos escolares y sentidos dados a la educación- se entrelazan a la cuestión de las dinámicas de desigualdad social y educativa.
