Effective field theory of 3He
3He and the triton are studied as three-body bound states in the effective
field theory without pions. We study 3He using the set of integral equations
developed by Kok et al. which includes the full off-shell T-matrix for the
Coulomb interaction between the protons. To leading order, the theory contains:
two-body contact interactions whose renormalized strengths are set by the NN
scattering lengths, the Coulomb potential, and a three-body contact
interaction. We solve the three coupled integral equations with a sharp
momentum cutoff, Lambda, and find that a three-body interaction is required in
3He at leading order, as in the triton. It also exhibits the same limit-cycle
behavior as a function of Lambda, showing that the Efimov effect remains in the
presence of the Coulomb interaction. We also obtain the difference between the

Extended polarized semiclassical model for quantum-dot cavity QED and its application to single-photon sources
We present a simple extension of the semi-classical model for a two-level
system in a cavity, in order to incorporate multiple polarized transitions,
such as those appearing in neutral and charged quantum dots (QDs), and two
nondegenerate linearly polarized cavity modes. We verify the model by exact
quantum master equation calculations, and experimentally using a neutral QD in
a polarization non-degenerate micro-cavity, in both cases we observe excellent
agreement. Finally, the usefulness of this approach is demonstrated by
optimizing a single-photon source based on polarization postselection, where we
find an increase in the brightness for optimal polarization conditions as

Antioxidant properties of rice bran oil from different varieties extracted by solvent extraction methods
Antioxidant properties of rice bran oil from different rice bran varieties; Rice Bran-Bario (RB-Bario), Rice bran-Lowland (RB-Low) and Rice Bran- Upland rice (RB-Up), collected from different cultural plots, were assessed. Measurement of antioxidant properties was evaluated by TPC (total phenolic content), DPPH scavenging activities and reducing power of extracts.. The study shows that antioxidant efficacy of rice bran was found the highest in RB-Up, followed by RB- Low and RB-Bario. The antioxidant properties were related to the rice bran origin and water irrigation demand by particular variety. RB –Up has a unique plantation condition which takes least amount of water retention which contribute to the highest antioxidant activity. Extraction solvents used shows that Upland (16.15%) and Lowland (16.16%) yielded the highest amount in conserving the crude fat oil in rice bran extract compared to Bario
Bi-allelic GAD1 variants cause a neonatal onset syndromic developmental and epileptic encephalopathy.
Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies are a heterogeneous group of early-onset epilepsy syndromes dramatically impairing neurodevelopment. Modern genomic technologies have revealed a number of monogenic origins and opened the door to therapeutic hopes. Here we describe a new syndromic developmental and epileptic encephalopathy caused by bi-allelic loss-of-function variants in GAD1, as presented by 11 patients from six independent consanguineous families. Seizure onset occurred in the first 2 months of life in all patients. All 10 patients, from whom early disease history was available, presented with seizure onset in the first month of life, mainly consisting of epileptic spasms or myoclonic seizures. Early EEG showed suppression-burst or pattern of burst attenuation or hypsarrhythmia if only recorded in the post-neonatal period. Eight patients had joint contractures and/or pes equinovarus. Seven patients presented a cleft palate and two also had an omphalocele, reproducing the phenotype of the knockout Gad1-/- mouse model. Four patients died before 4 years of age. GAD1 encodes the glutamate decarboxylase enzyme GAD67, a critical actor of the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) metabolism as it catalyses the decarboxylation of glutamic acid to form GABA. Our findings evoke a novel syndrome related to GAD67 deficiency, characterized by the unique association of developmental and epileptic encephalopathies, cleft palate, joint contractures and/or omphalocele
Electro-elastic tuning of single particles in individual self-assembled quantum dots
We investigate the effect of uniaxial stress on InGaAs quantum dots in a
charge tunable device. Using Coulomb blockade and photoluminescence, we observe
that significant tuning of single particle energies (~ -0.5 meV/MPa) leads to
variable tuning of exciton energies (+18 to -0.9 micro-eV/MPa) under tensile
stress. Modest tuning of the permanent dipole, Coulomb interaction and
fine-structure splitting energies is also measured. We exploit the variable

Boojums and the Shapes of Domains in Monolayer Films
Domains in Langmuir monolayers support a texture that is the two-dimensional
version of the feature known as a boojum. Such a texture has a quantifiable
effect on the shape of the domain with which it is associated. The most
noticeable consequence is a cusp-like feature on the domain boundary. We report
the results of an experimental and theoretical investigation of the shape of a
domain in a Langmuir monolayer. A further aspect of the investigation is the
study of the shape of a ``bubble'' of gas-like phase in such a monolayer. This
structure supports a texture having the form of an inverse boojum. The
distortion of a bubble resulting from this texture is also studied. The
correspondence between theory and experiment, while not perfect, indicates that
a qualitative understanding of the relationship between textures and domain

Reduced Deadtime and Higher Rate Photon-Counting Detection using a Multiplexed Detector Array
We present a scheme for a photon-counting detection system that can be
operated at incident photon rates higher than otherwise possible by suppressing
the effects of detector deadtime. The method uses an array of N detectors and a
1-by-N optical switch with a control circuit to direct input light to live
detectors. Our calculations and models highlight the advantages of the
technique. In particular, using this scheme, a group of N detectors provides an
improvement in operation rate that can exceed the improvement that would be
obtained by a single detector with deadtime reduced by 1/N, even if it were
feasible to produce a single detector with such a large improvement in
deadtime. We model the system for continuous and pulsed light sources, both of
which are important for quantum metrology and quantum key distribution

Optimal quantum cloning of orbital angular momentum photon qubits via Hong-Ou-Mandel coalescence
The orbital angular momentum (OAM) of light, associated with a helical
structure of the wavefunction, has a great potential for quantum photonics, as
it allows attaching a higher dimensional quantum space to each photon.
Hitherto, however, the use of OAM has been hindered by its difficult
manipulation. Here, exploiting the recently demonstrated spin-OAM information
transfer tools, we report the first observation of the Hong-Ou-Mandel
coalescence of two incoming photons having nonzero OAM into the same outgoing
mode of a beam-splitter. The coalescence can be switched on and off by varying
the input OAM state of the photons. Such effect has been then exploited to
carry out the 1 \rightarrow 2 universal optimal quantum cloning of OAM-encoded
qubits, using the symmetrization technique already developed for polarization.
These results are finally shown to be scalable to quantum spaces of arbitrary
dimension, even combining different degrees of freedom of the photons.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
