Compensation of B-L charge of matter with relic sneutrinos
We consider massless gauge boson connected to B-L charge with and without
compensation to complete the investigation of the gauging of B and L charges.
Relic sneutrinos predicted by SUSY and composite models may compensate B-L
charge of matter. As a consequence of the possible compensation mechanism we
have shown that the available experimental data admit the range of the B-L
interaction constant, 10^{-29} < {\alpha}_{B-L} < 10^{-12}, in addition to
{\alpha}_{B-L} < 10^{-49} obtained without compensation.Comment: 6 page
Medium effects in high energy heavy-ion collisions
The change of hadron properties in dense matter based on various theoretical
approaches are reviewed. Incorporating these medium effects in the relativistic
transport model, which treats consistently the change of hadron masses and
energies in dense matter via the scalar and vector fields, heavy-ion collisions
at energies available from SIS/GSI, AGS/BNL, and SPS/CERN are studied. This
model is seen to provide satisfactory explanations for the observed enhancement
of kaon, antikaon, and antiproton yields as well as soft pions in the
transverse direction from the SIS experiments. In the AGS heavy-ion
experiments, it can account for the enhanced ratio, the difference
in the slope parameters of the and transverse kinetic energy
spectra, and the lower apparent temperature of antiprotons than that of
protons. This model also provides possible explanations for the observed
enhancement of low-mass dileptons, phi mesons, and antilambdas in heavy-ion
collisions at SPS energies. Furthermore, the change of hadron properties in hot
dense matter leads to new signatures of the quark-gluon plasma to hadronic
matter transition in future ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC/BNL.Comment: RevTeX, 65 pages, including 25 postscript figures, invited topical

Top A_FB at the Tevatron vs. charge asymmetry at the LHC in chiral U(1) flavor models with flavored Higgs doublets
We consider the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron and top
charge asymmetry at the LHC within chiral U(1)^\prime models with
flavor-dependent U(1)^\prime charges and flavored Higgs fields, which were
introduced in the ref. [65]. The models could enhance not only the top
forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron, but also the top charge asymmetry at
LHC, without too large same-sign top pair production rates. We identify
parameter spaces for the U(1)^\prime gauge boson and (pseudo)scalar Higgs
bosons where all the experimental data could be accommodated, including the

Expanding the parameters of academia
This paper draws on qualitative data gathered from two studies funded by the UK Leadership Foundation for Higher Education to examine the expansion of academic identities in higher education. It builds on Whitchurchâs earlier work, which focused primarily on professional staff, to suggest that the emergence of broadly based projects such as widening participation, learning support and community partnership is also impacting on academic identities. Thus, academic as well as professional staff are increasingly likely to work in multi-professional teams across a variety of constituencies, as well as with external partners, and the binary distinction between âacademicâ and ânon-academicâ roles and activities is no longer clear-cut. Moreover, there is evidence from the studies of an intentionality about deviations from mainstream academic career routes among respondents who could have gone either way. Consideration is therefore given to factors that influence individuals to work in more project-oriented areas, as well as to variables that affect ways in which these roles and identities develop. Finally, three models of academically oriented project activity are identified, and the implications of an expansion of academic identities are reviewed
ASCR/HEP Exascale Requirements Review Report
This draft report summarizes and details the findings, results, and
recommendations derived from the ASCR/HEP Exascale Requirements Review meeting
held in June, 2015. The main conclusions are as follows. 1) Larger, more
capable computing and data facilities are needed to support HEP science goals
in all three frontiers: Energy, Intensity, and Cosmic. The expected scale of
the demand at the 2025 timescale is at least two orders of magnitude -- and in
some cases greater -- than that available currently. 2) The growth rate of data
produced by simulations is overwhelming the current ability, of both facilities
and researchers, to store and analyze it. Additional resources and new
techniques for data analysis are urgently needed. 3) Data rates and volumes
from HEP experimental facilities are also straining the ability to store and
analyze large and complex data volumes. Appropriately configured
leadership-class facilities can play a transformational role in enabling
scientific discovery from these datasets. 4) A close integration of HPC
simulation and data analysis will aid greatly in interpreting results from HEP
experiments. Such an integration will minimize data movement and facilitate
interdependent workflows. 5) Long-range planning between HEP and ASCR will be
required to meet HEP's research needs. To best use ASCR HPC resources the
experimental HEP program needs a) an established long-term plan for access to
ASCR computational and data resources, b) an ability to map workflows onto HPC
resources, c) the ability for ASCR facilities to accommodate workflows run by
collaborations that can have thousands of individual members, d) to transition
codes to the next-generation HPC platforms that will be available at ASCR
facilities, e) to build up and train a workforce capable of developing and
using simulations and analysis to support HEP scientific research on

Classification of non-Riemannian doubled-yet-gauged spacetime
Assuming covariant fields as the `fundamental' variables,
Double Field Theory can accommodate novel geometries where a Riemannian metric
cannot be defined, even locally. Here we present a complete classification of
such non-Riemannian spacetimes in terms of two non-negative integers,
, . Upon these backgrounds, strings become
chiral and anti-chiral over and directions respectively, while
particles and strings are frozen over the directions. In
particular, we identify as Riemannian manifolds, as
non-relativistic spacetime, as Gomis-Ooguri non-relativistic string,
as ultra-relativistic Carroll geometry, and as Siegel's
chiral string. Combined with a covariant Kaluza-Klein ansatz which we further
spell, leads to Newton-Cartan gravity. Alternative to the conventional
string compactifications on small manifolds, non-Riemannian spacetime such as
, may open a new scheme of the dimensional reduction from ten to

Intermittent applied mechanical loading induces subchondral bone thickening that may be intensified locally by contiguous articular cartilage lesions
Objectives: Changes in subchondral bone (SCB) and cross-talk with articular cartilage (AC) have been linked to osteoarthritis (OA). Using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) this study: (1) examines changes in SCB architecture in a non-invasive loading mouse model in which focal AC lesions are induced selectively in the lateral femur, and (2) determines any modifications in the contralateral knee, linked to changes in gait, which might complicate use of this limb as an internal control. Methods: Right knee joints of CBA mice were loaded: once with 2weeks of habitual use (n=7), for 2weeks (n=8) or for 5weeks (n=5). Both left (contralateral) and right (loaded) knees were micro-CT scanned and the SCB and trabecular bone analysed. Gait analysis was also performed. Results: These analyses showed a significant increase in SCB thickness in the lateral compartments in joints loaded for 5weeks, which was most marked in the lateral femur; the contralateral non-loaded knee also showed transient SCB thickening (loaded once and repetitively). Epiphyseal trabecular bone BV/TV and trabecular thickness were also increased in the lateral compartments after 5 weeks of loading, and in all joint compartments in the contralateral knee. Gait analysis showed that applied loading only affected gait in the contralateral himd-limb in all groups of mice from the second week after the first loading episode. Conclusions: These data indicate a spatial link between SCB thickening and AC lesions following mechanical trauma, and the clear limitations associated with the use of contralateral joints as controls in such OA models, and perhaps in OA diagnosis
Consumo e digestibilidade aparente de silagens de girassol (Helianthus annuus). I. MatĂ©ria seca, proteĂna bruta e extrato etĂ©reo.
Estudou-se o consumo voluntario e a digestibilidade aparente da materia seca, proteina bruta e extrato etereo de silagens de quatro genotipos de girassol (Rumbosol 91, M734, C11 e S430). Foram utilizados 20 carneiros. O consumo foi avaliado atraves da mensuracao do alimento fornecido e da sobras. a digestibilidade aparente foi calculada a partir dos resultados das analises laboratoriais das amostras de material fornecido, sobre a fezes, NĂŁo foram observadas diferencas nos valores de consumo de materia seca e proteina bruta, nem na digestibilidade aparente da materia seca entre as silagens avaliadas. O consumo de extrato etereo foi superior para as silagens dos genotipos M734 e S430. A digestibilidade parente do extrato etereo foi superior para os genotipos M734, C11 e S430, em relacao ao Rumbosol 91. A digestibilidade aparente da proteina bruta do genotipo Rumbosol 91 diferiu das demais. O consumo voluntario da materia seca variou de 50,18 a 74,53g/kg 075/dia, sendo considerado satisfatorio, o que indicou a possibilidade de utilizacao destas silagens na alimentacao animal
Consumo e digestibilidade aparente de silagens de girassol (Helianthus Annuus). II. Energia bruta e fraçÔes fibrosas.
Estudou-se o consumo voluntario e a digestibilidade aparente da energia bruta e das fracoes fibrosas de silagem de quatro genotipos de girassol (Rumbosol 91, M734, C11 e S430). Foram utilizados 20 carneiros. O consumo foi avaliado atraves da mensuracao do alimento fornecido e das sobras .A digestibilidade aparente foi calculada a partir dos resultados das analises laboratoriais das amostras de material fornecido, sobras e fezes. Nao foram observadas diferencas entre os resultados de consumo voluntario e de digestibilidade aparente da energia bruta, fibra em detergente neutro, fibra em detergente acido, hemicelulose celulose e lignina das silagens de girassol testadas. O consumo voluntario variou de 119,48 182,01 KCAL/KG 075/dia de energia digestivel e de 24,28 a 33,65 g/kg 075/dia de fibra em detergente neutro para as silagens dos genotipos C11 e S430, respectivamente. Os resultados indicaram a possibilidade de utilizacao das silagens de girassol na alimentacao de ruminantes
