Innovation Management Techniques and Tools: a review from Theory and Practice
Knowledge is considered to be an economic driver in todayâs economy. It has become a commodity, a resource that can be packed and transferred. The objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of the scope, trends and major actors (firms, organizations, government, consultants, academia, etc.) in the development and use of methods to manage innovation in a knowledge-driven economy. The paper identifies the main innovation management techniques (IMTs) aiming at the improvement of firm competitiveness by means of knowledge management. It will specifically focus on those IMTs for which knowledge is a relevant part of the innovation process. The research study, based on a survey at the European level, concludes that a knowledge-driven economy affects the innovation process and approach. The traditional idea that innovation is based on research (technology-push theory) and interaction between firms and other actors has been replaced by the current social network theory of innovation, where knowledge plays a crucial role in fostering innovation. Simultaneously, organizations in both public and private sectors have launched initiatives to develop methodologies and tools to support business innovation management. Higher education establishments, business schools and consulting companies are developing innovative and adequate methodologies and tools, while public authorities are designing and setting up education and training schemes aimed at disseminating best practices among all kinds of businesse

E-retailing ethics in Egypt and its effect on customer repurchase intention
The theoretical understanding of online shopping behaviour has received much attention. Less focus has been given to the formation of the ethical issues that result from online shopper interactions with e-retailers. The vast majority of earlier research on this area is conceptual in nature and limited in scope by focusing on consumersâ privacy issues. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose a theoretical model explaining what factors contribute to online retailing ethics and its effect on customer repurchase intention. The data were analysed using variance-based structural equation modelling, employing partial least squares regression. Findings indicate that the five factors of the online retailing ethics (security, privacy, non- deception, fulfilment/reliability, and corporate social responsibility) are strongly predictive of online consumersâ repurchase intention. The results offer important implications for e-retailers and are likely to stimulate further research in the area of e-ethics from the consumersâ perspective
Effect of compost-, sand-, or gypsum-amended waste foundry sands on turfgrass yield and nutrient content
To prevent the 7 to 11 million metric tons of waste foundry
sand (WFS) produced annually in the USA from entering
landfi lls, current research is focused on the reuse of WFSs as
soil amendments. Th e eff ects of diff erent WFS-containing
amendments on turfgrass growth and nutrient content were
tested by planting perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and
tall fescue (Schedonorus phoenix (Scop.) Holub) in diff erent
blends containing WFS. Blends of WFS were created with
compost or acid-washed sand (AWS) at varying percent by
volume with WFS or by amendment with gypsum (9.6 g
gypsum kgâ1 WFS). Measurements of soil strength, shoot and
root dry weight, plant surface coverage, and micronutrients (Al,
Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, B, Na) and macronutrients (N, P, K, S, Ca,
Mg) were performed for each blend and compared with pure
WFS and with a commercial potting media control. Results
showed that strength was not a factor for any of the parameters
studied, but the K/Na base saturation ratio of WFS:compost
mixes was highly correlated with total shoot dry weight for
perennial ryegrass (r = 0.995) and tall fescue (r = 0.94). Th is was
further substantiated because total shoot dry weight was also
correlated with shoot K/Na concentration of perennial ryegrass
(r = 0.99) and tall fescue (r = 0.95). A compost blend containing
40% WFS was determined to be the optimal amendment for
the reuse of WFS because it incorporated the greatest possible
amount of WFS without major reduction in turfgrass growth
Understandings of cervical screening in sexual minority women: A Q-methodological study
Discursive perspectives argue that cervical screening carries social and moral meaning. Overlooked by research into the health needs of sexual minority women, previous literature that has examined uptake of cervical screening has instead targeted increasing attendance via information and service provision. In order to explore the diversity of meanings that British sexual minority women have about cervical screening, the Q-sorts of 34 sexual minority women were factor analysed by-person and rotated to simple structure using Varimax. The five factors are interpreted and discussed relative to competing discourses on information provision within cervical screening. The five accounts are labelled 'cervical screening is': an essential health check that women have the right to refuse; a woman's health entitlement; a vital test but degrading experience; a sensible thing to do; and an unnecessary imposition for some women. Critical approaches to informed choice are explored with attention to recent developments in cervical cancer prevention. Findings highlighting the need for affirmation of diversity within healthcare are considered in relation to existing criteria for UK national screening programmes

[doi: 10.1191/0309132504ph469oa]The paper is concerned with spatial clustering of economic activity and its relation to the spatiality of knowledge creation in interactive learning processes. It questions the view that tacit knowledge transfer is confined to local milieus whereas codified knowledge may roam the globe almost frictionlessly. The paper highlights the conditions under which both tacit and codified knowledge can be exchanged locally and globally. A distinction is made between, on the one hand, the learning processes taking place among actors embedded in a community by just being there dubbed buzz and, on the other, the knowledge attained by investing in building channels of communication called pipelines to selected providers located outside the local milieu. It is argued that the co-existence of high levels of buzz and many pipelines may provide firms located in outward-looking and lively clusters with a string of particular advantages not available to outsiders. Finally, some policy implications, stemming from this argument, are identified

The development of the graphics-decoding proficiency instrument
The Graphics-Decoding Proficiency (G-DP) instrument was developed as a screening test for the purpose of measuring studentsâ (aged 8-11 years) capacity to solve graphics-based mathematics tasks. These tasks include number lines, column graphs, maps and pie charts. The instrument was developed within a theoretical framework which highlights the various types of information graphics commonly presented to students in large-scale national and international assessments. The instrument provides researchers, classroom teachers and test designers with an assessment tool which measures studentsâ graphics decoding proficiency across and within five broad categories of information graphics. The instrument has implications for a number of stakeholders in an era where graphics have become an increasingly important way of representing information
