The lyric genre shijo, developed primarily in the late Koryo period (918-1392) and over 500 years of the Choson Kingdom (1392-1910), stands out by the broad base of writers and readers who enjoy it, and, at the same time, by its active presence in the landscape of contemporary literature. Its long history and active present testify more than sufficiently its value as one of the most important genres of Korean literature. In our view, the reason why shijo survives today lies in its simple form of three short verses, being an appropriate and effective way to transmit the lyrical sensibility of the Korean people. We usually think that, over the history of Korean literature, every time conceive its own lyric, incorporated and filed in the oral tradition, as hyangga (향가) proper of Silla kingdom, or sokyo (속요), characteristic of Koryo. Instead, the lyrical form of shijo persists among different types of contemporary poems, like the sonnet in the Western tradition, whose composition is still highly valued

[EN] The present research has its origin and the possibility of carrying out the academic, in the cultural sphere of East Asia to which the author, possible to approach with ease and relevance of thematic analysis to the east in Spanish literature. On this subject begins by emphasizing the fact that literary modernism, which draws more than a little of the exotic East, usually aroused vivid interest among scholars of literature, which is far outside the poetry of Francisco Villaespesa .[ES] El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como origen y posibilidad de realización el marco académico, en el ámbito cultural, de Asia Oriental al que pertenece el autor, permitiéndole aproximarme con soltura y pertinencia de análisis a las temáticas orientales en la literatura española.

Life-Threatening Acute Hyponatremia with Generalized Seizure Induced by Low-Dose Cyclophosphamide in a Patient with Breast Cancer

Cyclophosphamide is commonly used in the treatment of malignant diseases. Symptomatic severe hyponatremia induced by low-dose cyclophosphamide is very uncommon worldwide. Recently we experienced a case of a 56-year-old woman with breast cancer who developed severe hyponatremia with generalized seizure after the first cycle of adjuvant chemotherapy with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide. Her laboratory test showed a serum sodium of 116 mmol/L. Her hyponatremia was initially treated with hypertonic saline solution and furosemide. She completely recovered without neurological deficits after slow correction of the serum sodium concentration over two days. Clinicians must always keep in mind that life-threatening acute hyponatremia can be induced by intravenous cyclophosphamide during chemotherapy, even if the dosage is low

Purpose: Circulating tumor cells (CTC) clearly correlate with unfavorable outcomes for patients with metastatic breast cancer, but the long-term prognostic implications of CTC for molecular subtypes of operable breast cancer are not yet known. We explored the relationships between previously established prognostic factors and CTC in operable breast cancer, and the significance of CTC by breast cancer molecular subtype. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 166 patients with operable breast cancer (stage I-IIIA) diagnosed from April 1997 to May 2003. CTC were detected using cytokeratin- 20 (CK-20) mRNA expression in peripheral blood samples that were collected just prior to surgery under general anesthesia. Clinicopathological characteristics of the cancer were analyzed according to CTC status. Metastasisfree survival (MFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed according to CTC status and breast cancer molecular subtype. Results: CK-20 mRNA-positive CTC was detected in 37 of 166 patients (22.3%) and was not correlated with any previous clinical factors in univariate analysis (p> 0.05). After a median follow-up of 100 months, the patients with CK-20 mRNA-positive CTC had less favorable outcomes in terms of MFS and OS than those without detectable CTC (log-rank p< 0.05). Among molecular subtypes of operable breast cancer, the patients with CK-20 mRNA-positive CTC had shorter MFS and OS in triple negative and human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2) breast cancer subtype (log-rank, p<0.05). Conclusion: CK-20 mRNA-positive CTC may lend insight into tumor progression as a prognostic indicator especially in the triple negative and HER2 subtypes of operable breast cancer

Rapid serodiagnostic methods for Toxoplasma gondii infection in cats are urgently needed for effective control of transmission routes toward human infections. In this work, 4 recombinant T. gondii antigens (SAG1, SAG2, GRA3, and GRA6) were produced and tested for the development of rapid diagnostic test (RDT). The proteins were expressed in Escherichia coli, affinity-purified, and applied onto the nitrocellulose membrane of the test strip. The recombinant SAG1 (rSAG1) showed the strongest antigenic activity and highest specificity among them. We also performed clinical evaluation of the rSAG1-loaded RDT in 182 cat sera (55 household and 127 stray cats). The kit showed 0.88 of kappa value comparing with a commercialized ELISA kit, which indicated a significant correlation between rSAG1-loaded RDT and the ELISA kit. The overall sensitivity and specificity of the RDT were 100% (23/23) and 99.4% (158/159), respectively. The rSAG1-loaded RDT is rapid, easy to use, and highly accurate. Thus, it would be a suitable diagnostic tool for rapid detection of antibodies in T. gondii-infected cats under field conditions

(miR-21) is known to act as an oncogene. The aim of this study was to investigate the significance of miR-21 expression level in relation with clinicopathological factors and prognosis in breast cancer. Methods: MicroRNA was extracted from cancer and normal breast tissue of 109 breast cancer patients who underwent surgery from 2002 to 2004 using the Taqman ® MicroRNA Assay. The correlation between miR-21 expression and clinicopathologic features was analyzed and the significance of miR-21 as a prognostic factor and its relationship with survival was determined. Results: MiR-21 expression was higher in cancer tissues than in normal tissues (p<0.0001). High miR-21 expression was associated with mastectomy, larger tumor size, higher stage, higher grade, estrogen receptor (ER) negative, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) positive, HER2 positive breast cancer subtype, high Ki-67 expression, and death. On multivariate analysis, prognostic factors for overall survival were ER and miR-21. High miR-21 expression was significantly related to lower overall survival (p = 0.031). Conclusion: This study supports the role of miR-21 as an oncogene and a biomarker for breast cancer with its high expression in cancer tissues and its relationship with other prognostic factors and survival

Brucella canis infection can be clinically inapparent in dogs, and when infection goes unnoticed, there is a chance for dog-to-human transmission. A new strain of B. canis was isolated from the blood of an infected dog in order to analyze the pathogenic mechanism, compare genetic properties, and develop new genetic tools for early diagnosis of canine brucellosis. Herein, we report the complete genome sequence of the strain B. canis HSK A52141. This is the second complete genome sequence and biological annotation available for a member of B. canis.open2
