    Reflection-in-Action Markers for Reflection-on-Action in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Settings

    International audienceWe describe an exploratory study on the use of markers set during a synchronous collaborative interaction (reflection-in-action) for later construction of reflection reports upon the collaboration that occurred (reflection-on-action). During two sessions, pairs of students used the Visu videoconferencing tool for synchronous interaction and marker setting (positive, negative or free) and then individual report building on the interaction (using markers or not). A quantitative descriptive analysis was conducted on the markers put in action, on their use to reflect on action and on the reflection categories of the sentences in these reports. Results show that the students (1) used the markers equally as a note-taking and reflection means during the interaction, (2) used mainly positive markers both to reflect in and on action; (3) paid more attention in identifying what worked in their interaction (conservative direction) rather than in planning on how to improve their group work (progressive direction); (4) used mainly their own markers to reflect on action, with an increase in the use of their partners' markers in the second reflection reports; (5) reflected mainly on their partner in the first reflection reports and more on themselves in the second reports to justify themselves and to express their satisfaction

    The Visu Reflection Tool for Socio-Emotional Awareness in CSCL situations

    International audienceAn exploratory study has been conducted in which 12 students in Bachelor of Science in Psychology were asked to use the Visu reflection tool during Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) situations. Visu is a web videoconferencing platform that allows participants to put reflective markers during their collaborative learning activity, and to review the traces of their synchronous collaboration later. In this study, co-learners used two types of markers: (1) free markers and (2) socio-emotional markers to express either negative or positive feelings about the way they collaborate together. Our contribution is related to the first focus of the workshop: emotion awareness in CSCL. In line with this focus, our main questions are as follows: (1) How can the Visu tool help learners express and share their feelings about collaboration? How does this affect the way they interact and learn together? (2) How do they use the Visu markers after the collaboration to self-reflect on their group processes? In this paper, we first describe the Visu platform. We then present a study we have carried out to answer the questions presented above. We finally conclude with the contributions of our research to the workshop topic

    Résultats à moyen terme du traitement des ostéochondrites disséquantes des condyles fémoraux par greffe ostéochondrale en mosaïque

    Face à une perte de substance cartilagineuse des condyles fémoraux, plusieurs alternatives thérapeutiques interventionnelles sont envisageables y compris la mosaïcoplastie. Le but de notre travail était d'évaluer le résultat clinique et radiologique à moyen terme ainsi que d'évaluer les principaux éléments pronostiques. Notre étude épidémiologique rétrospective étalée sur 15 ans nous a permis de colliger 35 dossiers exploitables d'ostéochondrite disséquante des condyles fémoraux traités par la technique de mosaïcoplastie avec un recul moyen de 24 mois. Le niveau des plaintes ainsi que la fonction du genou en préopératoire ont été étudiés et comparés par rapport au genou sain selon le Score International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS), le score International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) et l'échelle visuelle de la douleur (EVA) et nous avons trouvé qu'elle était inférieure à 60% chez 27 malades. L'évaluation des résultats au recul ont été analysés selon les critères fonctionnels et radiologiques de Hunghston. Après un recul moyen de 24 mois, l'algoneurodystrophie était observée dans 05 cas avec un seul cas d'hémarthrose. Une nette amélioration du score ICRS était observée avec une moyenne qui a passée du 54% à 74% au recul. Les patients satisfaits ou très satisfaits (82,9%) furent largement majoritaires. Les éléments de bon pronostic constatés dans notre étude étaient: un délai opératoire moins de 18 mois de début de la symptomatologie, les lésions profondes ayant un diamètre inférieur à 02 cm et les lésions siégeant au niveau du condyle interne. Le traitement des pertes de substances cartilagineuses passe obligatoirement par la correction des causes directes et indirectes à savoir le morphotype, la laxité et le capital méniscal. Aucun consensus décisionnel n'a pu être proposé et nul ne peut confirmer la supériorité d'une technique par rapport à l'autre mais nous pouvons dire que le défect cartilagineux de 2 à 4 cm2 peut être la meilleure indication à la mosaïcoplastie

    Examining the link between isokinetic strength metrics and ball speed in women’s soccer

    The shot performance of female soccer players is one of the most critical factors in winning a soccer match. It is essential to thoroughly clarify the kinetic factors that can improve shot performance. This study explores the connections between ball velocity post-shooting and isokinetic knee extension (EXT) and flexion (FLX) strength performances among female soccer players. Thirteen voluntary players from professional leagues took part in the research study. The study analyzed the average and peak concentric (Con) and eccentric (Ecc) torques, isometric (Iso) strength performances at angular velocities of 60 /s, 180 /s and 300 /s, the time required to reach peak torque, and ball velocities during shooting. The relationships among these variables were investigated separately for the dominant (D) and non-dominant (ND) legs. The analysis unveiled significant correlations between ball velocities and D-EXT (Absolute) peak torque at an angular velocity of 60 /s (r = 0.597; p < 0.05), D-%IPS (r = -0.580; p < 0.05), and ND-FLX (Absolute) average torque (r = 0.559; p < 0.05). Moreover, notable associations were observed between ball velocities and ND-EXT (Absolute) (r = 0.581; p < 0.05), as well as ND-FLX (Absolute) (r = 0.602; p < 0.05) average torques at an angular velocity of 180 /s. Additionally, significant relationships were found between ball velocities and peak (r = 0.664; p = 0.013) and average (r = 0.660; p = 0.014) torques generated during ND-EXT (Absolute) at an angular velocity of 300 /s. However, the connections between the time to reach peak torque, eccentric and isometric forces, and ball velocities were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). The results of the study indicate that enhancing concentric isokinetic strength development at 60 /s, 180 /s, and 300 /s angular velocities, along with balanced strengthening of the ND extremity, holds paramount importance in elevating shot performance among female soccer players, particularly in the context of rapid shot strategies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    The Enhanced Adsorption Capacity of <em>Ziziphus jujuba</em> Stones Modified with Ortho-Phosphoric Acid for Organic Dye Removal: A Gaussian Process Regression Approach

Here, the chemical modification of Ziziphus jujuba stones (ZJS) treated with ortho-phosphoric acid (ZJS-H3PO4) is investigated to enhance its adsorption properties for organic dyes. The physicochemical properties of ZJS-H3PO4 reveal increased porosity (87.29%), slightly higher bulk density (0.034 g mL−1), and enhanced acidity (31.42 m eq g g−1) compared to untreated ZJS. XRF analysis confirms the successful incorporation of orthophosphoric acid during treatment due to a significant increase in phosphorus content. The maximum adsorption capacity of methylene blue on ZJS-H3PO4 is found to be 179.83 mg g−1, demonstrating its efficacy as a potential adsorbent for organic dyes. These findings suggest that modifying ZJS with orthophosphoric acid could be a promising strategy to enhance its adsorption performance in various environmental applications. Furthermore, Gaussian process regression (GPR) is employed to model MB adsorption by ZJS-H3PO4. Optimization of the GPR model involves evaluating different kernel functions and meticulously adjusting parameters to maximize its ability to capture complex relationships in the data. The obtained GPR model demonstrates remarkable performance with high correlation coefficients (R) and low root mean square errors (RMSEs) across all study phases. Model validation is performed through residual analysis, confirming its effectiveness and accuracy in predicting MB adsorption. Finally, a user-friendly interface is developed to facilitate the usage of the GPR model in future applications, representing a significant advancement in environmental process modeling and ecosystem management

    Synthesis and characterization of new-type soluble β-substituted zinc phthalocyanine derivative of clofoctol

    In this work, we have described the synthesis and characterization of novel zinc (II) phthalocyanine bearing four 2-(2,4-dichloro-benzyl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-butyl)-phenoxy substituents on the peripheral positions. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis and different spectroscopic techniques, such as FT-IR, 1H NMR, MALDI-TOF, and UV-Vis. The Zn (II) phthalocyanine shows excellent solubility in organic solvents such as dichloromethane (DCM), n-hexane, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran (THF), and toluene. Photochemical and electrochemical characterizations of the complex were performed by UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Its good solubility allows a direct deposition of this compound as film, which has been tested as a solid-state sensing material in gravimetric chemical sensors for gas detection, and the obtained results indicate its potential for qualitative discrimination and quantitative assessment of various volatile organic compounds, among them methanol, n-hexane, triethylamine (TEA), toluene and DCM, in a wide concentration range

    Owing to the water crisis, the development of innovative and clean advanced oxidation processes to decompose a variety of harmful organic compounds in wastewater becomes the main challenge for many research teams. Cold discharge plasma is one of the most widely studied and developed processes, owing to its low energy cost and easy to operate. The impact of different factors on the decontamination effectiveness of discharge plasma are detailed in this review. The generation and reaction mechanisms of reactive species in discharge plasma systems have also gained a significant interest and hence discussed. Several potentials and laboratory-scale reactor design recently reported are discussed and schematically presented. The recent combination of discharge plasma decontamination and other processes in both post and pre-treatment configuration are reported.
