Doulas could Improve Foreign-Born Women’s Perinatal and Postpartum Satisfaction and Increase Health Providers’ Cultural Competency in a Multicultural Urban Area of the United States.
Doulas act as a cultural bridge between clients and providers through the support, advocacy, and education they provide. Unfortunately, migrant women may be at a disadvantage for accessing and benefiting from their services due to a variety of socioeconomic and cultural factors including predisposed ideas of care and structure based on experiences in native countries, language barriers, lower health literacy, and a lack of awareness and understanding from hospital/clinic staff.
A strategic multifaceted approach utilizing doulas, such as Boston Medical Center’s collaborative and culturally competent model, may greatly improve foreign-born women’s experience and satisfaction with healthcare when pregnant and giving birth in the United States
Spatially Varying X-ray Synchrotron Emission in SN 1006
A growing number of both galactic and extragalactic supernova remnants show
non-thermal (non-plerionic) emission in the X-ray band. New synchrotron models,
realized as SRESC and SRCUT in XSPEC 11, which use the radio spectral index and
flux as inputs and include the full single-particle emissivity, have
demonstrated that synchrotron emission is capable of producing the spectra of
dominantly non-thermal supernova remnants with interesting consequences for
residual thermal abundances and acceleration of particles. In addition, these
models deliver a much better-constrained separation between the thermal and
non-thermal components, whereas combining an unconstrained powerlaw with modern
thermal models can produce a range of acceptable fits. While synchrotron
emission can be approximated by a powerlaw over small ranges of energy, the
synchrotron spectrum is in fact steepening over the X-ray band. Having
demonstrated that the integrated spectrum of SN 1006, a remnant dominated by
non-thermal emission, is well described by synchrotron models I now turn to
spatially resolved observations of this well studied remnant. The synchrotron
models make both spectral and spatial predictions, describing how the
non-thermal emission varies across the remnant. Armed with spatially resolved
non-thermal models and new thermal models such as VPSHOCK we can now dissect
the inner workings of SN 1006.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures. To appear in "Young Supernova Remnants" the 11th

Of people and places: Urban gendering in the English plays
The paper examines interconnections between gender and the civic landscape in the flood pageants
in the English mystery plays (York, Towneley, N-Town and Chester). The marital conflict
between Noah and his wife is discussed in the context of the urban physical and spiritual world
that provides a double backdrop for the play. The geometry of human sin and divine insight is
analysed and textile references are investigated to reveal the spatial and professional affiliation of
the characters. The silent potential of the urban setting that enriches the theatrical power of the
plays and transforms the events presented on stage into a medieval interactive game between the
actors and the audience is discussed
Scaffold
Scaffold is a narrative short with structuralist and documentary aspects. Filmed in
fragmentary close-up, Scaffold stitches together the conversations, interactions, and
people-watching that make up the daily grind for two Bosnian-Canadian construction
workers. The objective of my film is to present viewpoints of labourers that have
travelled from afar to a foreign city to find work. To represent this stylistically, the film
will document the process of construction using scaffolding as a framework for depicting
immigrant construction workers. It will attempt to capture their essence, character, and
idiosyncrasies as strategies to create a uniquely subjective view of the lived experience of their trade. It is my hope to capture the sentiment of a contemporary multicultural city by filtering it through this lens

Management of diastolic heart failure
Diastolic heart failure (HF) is also referred to as HF with preserved left ventricular systolic
function. The distinction between systolic and diastolic HFs is a pathophysiological one and
isolated forms of left ventricular dysfunction are rarely observed. In diastolic HF left ventricular
systolic function is normal or only slightly impaired, and the typical manifestations of HF
result from increased filling pressure caused by impaired relaxation and compliance of the left
ventricle. The predisposing factors for diastolic dysfunction include elderly age, female sex,
obesity, coronary artery disease, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Treatment of diastolic HF
is aimed to stop the progression of the disease, relieve its symptoms, eliminate exacerbations
and reduce the mortality. The management should include antihypertensive treatment, maintenance
of the sinus rhythm, prevention of tachycardia, venous pressure reduction, prevention
of myocardial ischemia and prevention of diabetes mellitus. The European Society of Cardiology
specifies the type of therapy in diastolic HF based on: angiotensin converting enzyme
inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, beta-blockers, non-dihydropyridine calcium channel
blockers, diuretics. In order to improve the currently poor prognosis in this group of patients
the treatment of diastolic HF must be optimised. (Cardiol J 2010; 17, 6: 558-565
Secure access to web interface
This document contains basic principles and processes regarding secure access to web information system. It consists of theoretic and applied part. These are mainly written together in thesis’s chapters. Theoretic informations were tested on simple web application created in PHP computer language on Apache web server using MySQL database. In the beginning, there is an analysis of used programming environment, especially it’s advantages and disadvantages. The main part of this document is simple characterization of many security problems which can be found on many websites all around the world. In the first place it’s a handling problem of inputs and outputs in the web applications. Password disputableness is solving separatelly. Theory of a problem is analysed first of all. Then a couple of solving methods are suggested and the one which is practically realized is described in detail. There is a notification system created which is used to inform user about errors appeared in web application. In the last section there is a client and server certificates described. This document contains fully characterization of used scripts and connection between them. They are supplemented with many pictures and screenshots which are used to better understanding the disputableness of web security.
