    Reflexive Translation Studies

    Get PDF
In the past decades, translation studies have increasingly focused on the ethical dimension of translational activity, with an emphasis on reflexivity to assert the role of the researcher in highlighting issues of visibility, creativity and ethics. In Reflexive Translation Studies, Silvia Kadiu investigates the viability of theories that seek to empower translation by making visible its transformative dimension; for example, by championing the visibility of the translating subject, the translator’s right to creativity, the supremacy of human translation or an autonomous study of translation. Inspired by Derrida’s deconstructive thinking, Kadiu presents practical ways of challenging theories that argue reflexivity is the only way of developing an ethical translation. She questions the capacity of reflexivity to counteract the power relations at play in translation (between minor and dominant languages, for example) and problematises affirmative claims about (self-)knowledge by using translation itself as a process of critical reflection

    Surrealism in André Breton’s Nadja

This close reading of André Breton’s Nadja (1928) examines the role of the title character in the development and evolution of Breton’s surrealist aspirations. Drawing from the theories presented in The Manifestoes of Surrealism (1924), it shows that Nadja epitomizes both the aesthetic fulfillment and political limits of Breton’s surrealist ideas, thus prefiguring the author’s political detachment in the years following the writing of the novel

    CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT. DEALING WITH DISCIPLINE

    Get PDF
The teaching process with all its difficulties faces teachers with numerous challenges, and one of the biggest is dealing with discipline. This article is organized in two parts, a theoretical and a practical one. They deal with discipline problems in classrooms. The theoretical part will mainly cover the following topics; What is meant by control on management? What are some important qualities teachers need to manage discipline? The nature of difficulties related to the topic As a practical part of this article there are given some tips and actions teachers can implement in order to prevent and reduce discipline problems in the classroom. Teachers’ personal qualities as well as their technical skills are vital. Teachers have to be good in two senses of the word: they must be good in the sense of being effective in the skills of classroom management; and they must be good in that they must be morally good, possessing natural virtues

    Get PDF
In this paper we will talk about the production of concrete in construction engineering, adding grace from power plants. From burning coal in power plants in Kosovo is being produced a large amount of ashes, which results as technological waste. From the economic view, environmental and science, this study is undertaken in accordance with the requirements of European standard ENV 206-1 and EN450-1, EN450-2.The main goal of this study is to use the power plant ashes as raw material for the production of concrete and to determine the optimal mixing ratios. Today there is a extensive experience in the use of thermal power plants ashes for concrete production, but to those that produced in Kosovo, this is the first study undertaken in this field. With the use of thermal power plants ashes in concrete planned generation facility, we will try to study some very important technical features that apply to the design of reinforced concrete structures, also to study the possibility of reducing the consumption of cement for benefiting the same concrete and with the better quality. In this case the expected results will be: the reduction of the cost of concrete, maintenance of equipment for the production and placing the right concrete in contraction

    Get PDF
The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between curriculum instruction time and student' school attitude. A mixed research approach was used in the study. The random-cluster samples of students, teachers, principals, and curriculum specialists were selected to be used in the research. The qualitative approach, including a review of official documentation as well as interviewing, was used to support a quantitative approach in the study. The descriptive analysis and a bivariate correlation statistic were used for the processing of data, and the inductive open coding and the typology techniques were used to analyse the qualitative data.  It is found that there are differences in instruction time between European countries and Albania. At the same time, the results showed that there is a relatively non-adequate student's school attitude in lower secondary education. The study demonstrated that there is a positive correlation between curriculum instruction time and the students' school attitude. It is one of a very small number of studies in curriculum instruction time to provide such results

Impact of Fly Ash on Concrete production cost

    Get PDF
In this paper we have analyzed the Ash deriving from the residue of burnt coal in Kosovo Power Plants, especially in Power Plant Kosova B . Given the large amount of Ash deriving from the combustion of coal and which is left as residue (redundancy), it was considered as necessary to carry out a study about the impact of Fly Ash in the reduction of Concrete production cost, but always having in mind to preserve the quality of concrete. The study is undertaken in accordance with the requirements of European standards. European Standard SK EN 206-1, EN 450-1 and EN 450-2. The Fly Ash is used as a supplementary of cement material in the production of concrete from Portland cement. As such, it had the impact of reducing the amount of cement used for a significant percentage. In addition to having an impact in cost reduction, the use of Fly Ash will also have an impact on the preservation of environment in two ways: one, by removing the ash from the landfills, because due to winds the ash is spread into the environment; and, two, it will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions from the production of cement

ME450 Capstone Design and Manufacturing Experience: Winter 2015The University of Michigan Solar Car is designing a solar-powered vehicle that will be racing at speeds of over 100kph in Australia for the 2015 World Solar Challenge. In order to keep the driver safe and support the suspension loads at these speeds, the team designs its cars around a central, structural chassis box. This chassis is currently made of a number of smaller components produced of carbon fiber and other materials which are then bonded together to form a structural single piece monocoque chassis. The existing method of manufacturing the various components involves creating female negative fiberglass molds from male positive polyurethane molds. Composite plies are hand-laid into the molds, cured to make parts, and then trimmed by hand. All of the components are then attached using a team standard bonding procedure. The goal of this project is to identify or develop a method of manufacturing and assembling the chassis system to decrease manufacturing time from the current 8 weeks down to 3 weeks. Potential items for the project to investigate include, but are not limited to: mold design and manufacturing methods; chassis designs; and bonding procedure and materials selection. The final deliverable will include producing a proof of concept of small scale solar vehicle using whichever manufacturing method is chosen.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/111317/1/20_Report.pd

Measuring And Reporting Of Intellectual Capital In The Health Care Sector Of Albania

    Get PDF
Intellectual capital is recognized as the most valuable resource of an organization and the fundamental issue to its success or failure, whereas it is also acknowledged as the most important source of organizations' competitive advantage. Intellectual capital is a combination of human capital, organizational capital and relational capital. Human capital refers to the knowledge that belongs to the employees of an organization (including employees collective competences, capabilities and brainpower), while structural capital refers to that knowledge which is created by the human capital that belongs to the organization ( in the form of quality and reach of IT systems, company images, hardware, software, databases, organizational structure, patents and trademarks). The effective coordination between structural and human capital, makes i possible that a company develops good relations with its stakeholders in the form of relational capital (which is the knowledge embedded in the relationships of an organization with its customers, suppliers, stakeholders and strategic alliance partners). The aim of this study is to determine the general attitude of the health care center’ managers and doctors to the intellectual capital assets in Albania. Besides, another aim of this study is to test the hypothesis that “the level of intellectual capital concept recognition and application of executives between private and public institutions is different. In order to reach the aim of the study a survey has been made, to six health care institutions in Albania, five in Tirana which is the capital city of Albania and one in Durres, which is the second biggest city in Albania. In total 60 questionnaires were distributed to the health care institutions (managers and doctors), 30 to the private and 30 to the public institutions respectively. The 5-point likert scale questionnaire was composed of 20 questions: 7 questions measuring human capital, 7 questions measuring organizational capital and 6 questions measuring relational capital. According to my researches made in this field, it is the first time that a research about Intellectual capital is conducted in Albania, which is one of the main reasons why this topic was chosen, hoping that it will create a path for future researches.Epoka Universit

Pervious Concrete-New Solution for Sustainable Urban Street Construction Case: Prishtina and Tirana

    Get PDF
Great problems resulting from the rainfalls, or saying explicitly: The water runoff on roads, streets, pavements, parking lots, squares, etc., require solutions. We are all witnesses of how streets of Prishtina and Tirana look like during rainfalls. Each one of us has been in one or other way participants in any of these occurrences, whether as pedestrians, vehicle operators or passengers. What was your impression and answer to it? The main goal of preparing this paper consists in a solution that would result as ideal perfection in preventing and avoiding entirely the urban water runoff and floods, the consequences of heavy rainfalls that last for long periods of time with stormy showers. The solution as per this study would be the utilization of pervious concrete. Pervious concrete is a construction material featuring the property that all water falling onto its surface to pass through it and be drained to the bottom side and flowing underground. This is enabled due to its composition and porous structure, accordingly all water-rain falling onto it will be drained and the surface remains water-free and easily passable. Pervious concrete, having the property of draining the water, has a positive impact on drivers steering the vehicles by the effect: no water-moisture on the roads, no vehicle sliding. Many countries all over the world apply this, especially in the USA where the application of pervious concrete has been applied for more than 40 years owing to innovative requirements of the American Government and awareness of employers, constructers, designers, urbanism architects on the advantages and benefits of pervious concrete. By the application of pervious concrete, the streets and roads of Prishtina and Tirana will not be flooded anymore, the pedestrians would be able to walk comfortably during wet weather conditions, the traffic flow will not be obstructed and stopped, and owing to its high porous structure this application will have a positive impact in lessening the acoustic pollution being as one of the major problems of urban sites

In exploring the interaction between form and content, Reflexive Translation Studies promotes the need for an experimental, multi-sensory and intuitive practice, which invites students, scholars and practitioners alike to engage with theory productively and creatively through translation
