Three-body resonances in He-6, Li-6, and Be-6, and the soft dipole mode problem of neutron halo nuclei
Using the complex scaling method, the low-lying three-body resonances of
He, Li, and Be are investigated in a parameter-free microscopic
three-cluster model. In He a 2, in Li a 2 and a 1, and in
Be the 0 ground state and a 2 excited state is found. The other
experimentally known 2 state of Li cannot be localized by our present
method. We have found no indication for the existence of the predicted 1
soft dipole state in He. We argue that the sequential decay mode of He
through the resonant states of its two-body subsystem can lead to peaks in the
excitation function. This process can explain the experimental results in the
case of Li, too. We propose an experimental analysis, which can decide

Removing the Microlensing Blending-Parallax Degeneracy Using Source Variability
Microlensing event MACHO 97-SMC-1 is one of the rare microlensing events for
which the source is a variable star, simply because most variable stars are
systematically eliminated from microlensing studies. Using observational data
for this event, we show that the intrinsic variability of a microlensed star is
a powerful tool to constrain the nature of the lens by breaking the degeneracy
between the microlens parallax and the blended light. We also present a
statistical test for discriminating the location of the lens based on the
\chi^2 contours of the vector \Lambda, the inverse of the projected velocity.
We find that while SMC self lensing is somewhat favored over halo lensing,

Combined Analysis of the Binary-Lens Caustic-Crossing Event MACHO 98-SMC-1
We fit the data for the binary-lens microlensing event MACHO 98-SMC-1 from 5
different microlensing collaborations and find two distinct solutions
characterized by binary separation d and mass ratio q: (d,q)=(0.54,0.50) and
(d,q)=(3.65,0.36), where d is in units of the Einstein radius. However, the
relative proper motion of the lens is very similar in the two solutions, 1.30
km/s/kpc and 1.48 km/s/kpc, thus confirming that the lens is in the Small
Magellanic Cloud. The close binary can be either rotating or approximately
static but the wide binary must be rotating at close its maximum allowed rate
to be consistent with all the data. We measure limb-darkening coefficients for
five bands ranging from I to V. As expected, these progressively decrease with
rising wavelength. This is the first measurement of limb darkening for a

Quantitative analyses and modelling to support achievement of the 2020 goals for nine neglected tropical diseases
Quantitative analysis and mathematical models are useful tools in informing strategies to control or eliminate disease. Currently, there is an urgent need to develop these tools to inform policy to achieve the 2020 goals for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). In this paper we give an overview of a collection of novel model-based analyses which aim to address key questions on the dynamics of transmission and control of nine NTDs: Chagas disease, visceral leishmaniasis, human African trypanosomiasis, leprosy, soil-transmitted helminths, schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis and trachoma. Several common themes resonate throughout these analyses, including: the importance of epidemiological setting on the success of interventions; targeting groups who are at highest risk of infection or re-infection; and reaching populations who are not accessing interventions and may act as a reservoir for infection,. The results also highlight the challenge of maintaining elimination 'as a public health problem' when true elimination is not reached. The models elucidate the factors that may be contributing most to persistence of disease and discuss the requirements for eventually achieving true elimination, if that is possible. Overall this collection presents new analyses to inform current control initiatives. These papers form a base from which further development of the models and more rigorous validation against a variety of datasets can help to give more detailed advice. At the moment, the models' predictions are being considered as the world prepares for a final push towards control or elimination of neglected tropical diseases by 2020

__Abstract__
Background: The comorbidity of pain and depression is associated with high disease burden for patients in terms
of disability, wellbeing, and use of medical care. Patients with major and minor depression often present
themselves with pain to a general practitioner and recognition of depression in such cases is low, but evolving.
Also, physical symptoms, including pain, in major depressive disorder, predict a poorer response to treatment. A
multi-faceted, patient-tailored treatment programme, like collaborative care, is promising. However, treatment of
chronic pain conditions in depressive patients has, so far, received limited attention in research. Cost effectiveness
of an integrated approach of pain in depressed patients has not been studied.

antidepressant duloxetine for patients with pain symptoms and a depressive disorder, compared to collaborative
care with placebo and compared to duloxetine alone
An SK3 Channel/nWASP/Abi-1 Complex Is Involved in Early Neurogenesis
BACKGROUND: The stabilization or regulated reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton is essential for cellular structure and function. Recently, we could show that the activation of the SK3-channel that represents the predominant SK-channel in neural stem cells, leads to a rapid local outgrowth of long filopodial processes. This observation indicates that the rearrangement of the actin based cytoskeleton via membrane bound SK3-channels might selectively be controlled in defined micro compartments of the cell. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We found two important proteins for cytoskeletal rearrangement, the Abelson interacting protein 1, Abi-1 and the neural Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome Protein, nWASP, to be in complex with SK3- channels in neural stem cells (NSCs). Moreover, this interaction is also found in spines and postsynaptic compartments of developing primary hippocampal neurons and regulates neurite outgrowth during early phases of differentiation. Overexpression of the proteins or pharmacological activation of SK3 channels induces obvious structural changes in NSCs and hippocampal neurons. In both neuronal cell systems SK3 channels and nWASP act synergistic by strongly inducing filopodial outgrowth while Abi-1 behaves antagonistic to its interaction partners. CONCLUSIONS: Our results give good evidence for a functional interplay of a trimeric complex that transforms incoming signals via SK3-channel activation into the local rearrangement of the cytoskeleton in early steps of neuronal differentiation involving nWASP and Abi-1 actin binding proteins
Search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with W and Z bosons in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV

The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 Springer Verlag.A search for the Higgs boson produced in association with a W or Z boson in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC using the full 2011 data sample, from an integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1. Higgs boson decay modes to ττ and WW are explored by selecting events with three or four leptons in the final state. No excess above background expectations is observed, resulting in exclusion limits on the product of Higgs associated production cross section and decay branching fraction for Higgs boson masses between 110 and 200 GeV in these channels. The Femme Fatale in Vogue:Femininity Ideologies in Fin-de-siècle America
This article explores how marketing influences ideologies of femininity. Tracing the evolution of femme fatale images in Vogue magazine in 1890s America, we develop a typology around four archetypal forms of the femme fatale that prevailed during this period. In doing so we respond to calls for more critical historical analyses on femininity. While studies on masculinity ideologies proliferate, there is a paucity of research on dissonant representations of femininity in popular culture media. The femme fatale, often a self-determined seductress who causes anguish to the men who become involved with her, is an intriguing and enduring challenge to traditional notions of femininity. Thus, in studying the femme fatale in her historical context and revealing the multiplicity of feminine ideologies contained within this trope, we contribute to a deeper understanding of marketing’s role in both reflecting and reinforcing societal assumptions, attitudes and problematics around gender norms.</p
