    Numerical Simulation on Shoreline Change in Western Region of Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia

    Shoreline change is considered the most dynamic processes in coastal region. Coastal erosion is a global problem where 70% beaches around the world are recessional. Almost all coastal area in Bali is potential to suffer from erosion. Badung Regency in Bali has many beaches that famous as tourism area where from about 64 km shoreline length, 11,5 km were recorded suffered by erosion in 1985 and 12,1 km erosion in 2007. This study aims to determine the value of shoreline changes that occur in western of Badung Regency from 2001 to 2010 based on the predicted wave data using monthly wind data from Ngurah Rai, Tuban, Badung, Bali meteorological station. Shoreline change simulation measured the forward (accretion) or backward (erosion) distance of the shoreline on the East-West direction. Bali has wind patterns that influenced by the Northwest monsoon from November-April and Southeast monsoon from May-October. In 2001-2010, dominant wind in this region was coming from east, southeast, and west. Geographically western coast of Badung influenced by incoming winds from the west, southwest, and south. Wind blow towards the coast in 2001-2010 are dominantly come from the west with wind speed range was about 1,7-4,7 m/s. Simulation indicated that generally shoreline tends to experience accretion in the north and erosion in the south. From 16000 m of study shoreline, along 7100 m of shoreline tend to suffer by erosion. Oppositely, along 8900 m of shoreline tend to have accretion

    Ferromagnetic Ising spin systems on the growing random tree

    We analyze the ferromagnetic Ising model on a scale-free tree; the growing random network model with the linear attachment kernel Ak=k+αA_k=k+\alpha introduced by [Krapivsky et al.: Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 85} (2000) 4629-4632]. We derive an estimate of the divergent temperature TsT_s below which the zero-field susceptibility of the system diverges. Our result shows that TsT_s is related to α\alpha as tanh(J/Ts)=α/[2(α+1)]\tanh(J/T_s)=\alpha/[2(\alpha+1)], where JJ is the ferromagnetic interaction. An analysis of exactly solvable limit for the model and numerical calculation support the validity of this estimate.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

    Hamiltonian tomography of dissipative systems under limited access: A biomimetic case study

    The identification of parameters in the Hamiltonian that describes complex many-body quantum systems is generally a very hard task. Recent attention has focused on such problems of Hamiltonian tomography for networks constructed with two-level systems. For open quantum systems, the fact that injected signals are likely to decay before they accumulate sufficient information for parameter estimation poses additional challenges. In this paper, we consider use of the gateway approach to Hamiltonian tomography \cite{Burgarth2009,Burgarth2009a} to complex quantum systems with a limited set of state preparation and measurement probes. We classify graph properties of networks for which the Hamiltonian may be estimated under equivalent conditions on state preparation and measurement. We then examine the extent to which the gateway approach may be applied to estimation of Hamiltonian parameters for network graphs with non-trivial topologies mimicking biomolecular systems.Comment: 6 page

    The Symbiotic System SS73 17 Seen with Suzaku

    We observed with Suzaku the symbiotic star SS73 17, motivated by the discovery by the INTEGRAL satellite and the Swift BAT survey that it emits hard X-rays. Our observations showed a highly-absorbed X-ray spectrum with NH > 10^23 cm-2, equivalent to A_V > 26, although the source has B magnitude 11.3 and is also bright in UV. The source also shows strong, narrow iron lines including fluorescent Fe K as well as Fe xxv and Fe xxvi. The X-ray spectrum can be fit with a thermal model including an absorption component that partially covers the source. Most of the equivalent width of the iron fluorescent line in this model can be explained as a combination of reprocessing in a dense absorber plus reflection off a white dwarf surface, but it is likely that the continuum is partially seen in reflection as well. Unlike other symbiotic systems that show hard X-ray emission (CH Cyg, RT Cru, T CrB, GX1+4), SS73 17 is not known to have shown nova-like optical variability, X-ray flashes, or pulsations, and has always shown faint soft X-ray emission. As a result, although it is likely a white dwarf, the nature of the compact object in SS73 17 is still uncertain. SS73 17 is probably an extreme example of the recently discovered and relatively small class of hard X-ray emitting symbiotic systems.Comment: 6 pages, accepted by PASJ for 2nd Suzaku Special Issu

    Journal ArticleCalmodulin-dependent protein phosphatase purified from bovine cardiac muscle catalyzed the rapid dephosphorylation of Ser-95 of bovine cardiac cAMP-dependent protein kinase regulatory subunit (RII). The kinetic constants determined for the reaction (Km = 20 microM; Vmax = 2 mumol min-1 mg-1) are comparable to those determined for other good substrates of this phosphatase. Because little is known about the determinants of substrate specificity for the calmodulin-dependent phosphatase, various phosphopeptides were used to investigate the structural features important for substrate recognition. Limited proteolysis of phospho-RII with trypsin and chymotrypsin yielded fragments (residues 93-400 and 91-400, respectively) that were poor substrates, whereas digestion with Staphylococcal aureus V8 protease produced three phosphopeptides that were all dephosphorylated as rapidly as intact RII. The sequence of the shortest phosphopeptide produced by S. aureus V8 protease was determined by sequence analysis to be Asp-Leu-Asp-Val-Pro-Ile-Pro-Gly-Arg-Phe-Asp-Arg-Arg-Val-Ser-Val-Cys-Ala-Glu, corresponding to residues 81-99 of RII. Synthetic phosphopeptides corresponding to residues 81-99, 85-99, 90-99, and 91-99 were prepared to determine the minimum sequence necessary for substrate recognition. Only the 19-residue peptide (81-99) was dephosphorylated with kinetics comparable to RII (Km = 26 microM, Vmax = 1.7 mumol min-1 mg-1). Structural analysis of this peptide indicates that an amphipathic beta-sheet structure may be an important structural determinant for some substrates of the calmodulin-dependent phosphatase

    Recently, it has shown that an explicit local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a two-setting Bell experiment (two-setting model), works only for the specific set of settings in the given experiment, but cannot construct a local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a {\it continuous-infinite} settings Bell experiment (infinite-setting model), even though there exist two-setting models for all directions in space. Hence, two-setting model does not have the property which infinite-setting model has. Here, we show that an explicit two-setting model cannot construct a local realistic model for the values of a correlation function, given in a {\it only discrete-three} settings Bell experiment (three-setting model), even though there exist two-setting models for the three measurement directions chosen in the given three-setting experiment.     On the motion of hairy black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories

    Starting from the static, spherically symmetric black hole solutions in massless Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theories, we build a "skeleton" action, that is, we phenomenologically replace black holes by an appropriate effective point particle action, which is well suited to the formal treatment of the many-body problem in EMD theories. We find that, depending crucially on the value of their scalar cosmological environment, black holes can undergo steep "scalarization" transitions, inducing large deviations to the general relativistic two-body dynamics, as shown, for example, when computing the first post-Keplerian Lagrangian of EMD theories
