    The primary mission of the law school library is to meet the information needs of the faculty and students of the institution it supports. In addition to their role in educating future lawyers, law schools are the major producers of scholarly literature in law and rely on academic law libraries to provide the resources and support needed for research and publication. Beyond support for the core functions of legal education and research, the specific missions of law school libraries vary depending on the size and missions of law schools of different types.     A minisandwich experiment with blended ca-bentonite and pearson water—Hydration, swelling, solute transport and cation exchange

    Shaft seals are geotechnical barriers in nuclear waste deposits and underground mines. The Sandwich sealing system consists of alternating sealing segments (DS) of bentonite and equipotential segments (ES). MiniSandwich experiments were performed with blended Ca-bentonite (90 mm diameter and 125 mm height) to study hydration, swelling, solute transport and cation exchange during hydration with A3 Pearson water, which resembles pore water of Opalinus Clay Formation at sandy facies. Two experiments were run in parallel with DS installed either in one-layer hydrate state (1W) or in air-dry two-layer hydrate (2W) state. Breakthrough at 0.3 MPa injection pressure occurred after 20 days and the fluid inlet was closed after 543 days, where 4289 mL and 2984 mL, respectively, passed both cells. Final hydraulic permeability was 2.0–2.7 × 1017^{-17} m2^{2}. Cells were kept for another 142 days before dismantling. Swelling of DS resulted in slight compaction of ES. No changes in the mineralogy of the DS and ES material despite precipitated halite and sulfates occurred. Overall cation exchange capacity of the DS does not change, maintaining an overall value of 72 ± 2 cmol(+)/kg. Exchangeable Na+^{+} strongly increased while exchangeable Ca2+^{2+} decreased. Exchangeable Mg2+^{2+} and K+^{+} remained nearly constant. Sodium concentration in the outflow indicated two different exchange processes while the concentration of calcium and magnesium decreased potentially. Concentration of sulfate increased in the outflow, until it reached a constant value and chloride concentration decreased to a minimum before it slightly increased to a constant value. The available data set will be used to adapt numerical models for a mechanism-based description of the observed physical and geochemical processes

    Music education in Europe reflects the colorful diversity and rich tradition of the cultural identities of our continent. Within the music education landscape music schools are institutions specially focused on the practices of music-making. The First European Music School Symposium, which took place at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in October 2017, brought together more than 150 researchers and practitioners from twenty-five European countries. The two cooperating partners, European Music School Union and Austrian Conference of Music School Associations, ensured a lively exchange between research and practitioners. This post-symposium publication presents contributions from twenty-nine researchers from thirteen European countries and paints a multicolored picture of music schools in Europe

    Low-frequency dielectric properties of three bentonites at different adsorbed water states

    Three bentonites of varying smectite content were investigated by dielectric spectroscopy in the frequency range 10(-4) to 10(6)Hz after storage at well-defined humidities. The identification of relaxation processes from complex permittivity measurements was difficult, since conductivity effects were superimposed on the underlying relaxations. Relaxation peaks revealed by the dissipation factor indicated the occurrence of interfacial processes between 10(2) and 10(6) Hz. The intensity of the polarization of the electrochemical double-layer at the clay-water interface was promoted by increasing water content and was shifted to higher frequencies the higher the water content in the bentonites. Below ∼1Hz, electrode polarization (EP) was shown to be a participating process with capacitance values ranging from 0.6(*)10(-3) to 7.3(*)10(-3)F due to the accumulated charges. An equivalent circuit model was introduced that successfully described the low-frequency dielectric behavior of bentonites at low moisture levels. An included series R-CPE connection was used to describe the double-layer relaxation. At water contents up to 17%, the bulk resistivity was mainly influenced by smectite content and cation exchange capacity, whereas at water contents of ⩾19%, interlayer occupation and hydration state became more important
