    Condition monitoring system for characterization of electric motor ball bearings with distributed fault using fuzzy inference tools

    The present work shows a condition monitoring system applied to electric motors ball bearings. Unlike most of the previous work on this area, which is mainly focused on the location of single-point defects in bearing components – inner and outer races, cage or ball faults -, this research covers wide range irregularities which are very often more difficult to analyse. In addition to traditional techniques like vibration and current signals, high frequency current bearing pulses and acoustic emissions are also analysed. High frequency bearings current pulses are acquired using motors especially modified. This modification isolates ball bearings from the motor stator frame, except for a bearing housing single point connected to ground through a proper cable where the pulses signal is measured. A multivariable fuzzy inference analysis approach is presented to get around the diagnosis difficulty.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Richness and Current Status of Gymnosperm Communities in Aguascalientes, Mexico

    The gymnosperm diversity of Aguascalientes, Mexico, is presented. Fifteen species from five genera and three families are reported, two of Coniferales (Cupressaceae and Pinaceae) and one of Gnetales (Ephedraceae). Pinus is the most diverse and abundant genus with seven species. The most abundant species is P. teocote, while P. strobiformis is the scarcest. Juniperus is the next most diverse genus, represented by four species, with J. deppeana the most abundant and J. durangensis the scarcest. Cupressus lusitanica, Taxodium mucronatum and Ephedra compacta are each the sole representatives of their genera. Most conifers occupy the mountainous part of the state, forming temperate forest; exceptions are Taxodium, which is located on the margins of permanent streams, and J. coahuilensis, which is found in the low parts of the Aguascalientes Valley over calcareous soils in the northern part of the state. Ephedra is distributed in the northeast part of Aguascalientes in microphyll desert scrub. The current status of the gymnosperm communities in the state of Aguascalientes is discussed

    Effectiveness of participatory-action-research to put in practice evidence at a nursing onco-hematology unit

    The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of evidence implementation through participatory-action research (PAR). A prospective quasi-experimental design with two non-equivalent and non-concurrent groups (2006 and 2008) was adopted. The research was conducted at the bone marrow transplant unit of a tertiary-level Spanish hospital. To put the evidence in practice, PAR was adopted as an "intervention studied". The dependent variables were: professional performance and patient outcomes (psycho-emotional area and adverse effects). In total, 125 patients were recruited (1st period=56; 2nd period=69). The results in the second period show significant improvements in professional performance in terms of the quality of the registers of signs and symptoms. In the psycho-emotional area, the psycho-social adjustment improved significantly; without caregiver burden or satisfaction showing any clear tendencies. Among the adverse effects, catheter-related thrombosis and catheter-related infection improved significantly; there were no significant differences in the level of pain or mucositis. Through the PAR, evidence could be put in practice and the outcomes under analysis could be improved.La finalidad fue evaluar la efectividad de la implantación de evidencias mediante una investigación-acción-participante (IAP). Diseño cuasi-experimental prospectivo con dos grupos no equivalentes ni concurrentes (2006 a 2008) en una unidad de enfermería de trasplante de medula ósea de un hospital español de tercer nivel. La intervención estudiada fue la implantación de evidencias mediante una IAP. Las variables dependientes: desempeño profesional y resultados de salud (área psico-emocional y efectos adversos). Se reclutaron 125 pacientes (1er grupo=56; 2º grupo=69). Se aprecia una mejoría significativa en el segundo grupo en la calidad de los registros de valoración de signos y síntomas. En el área psico-emocional, el ajuste psico-social mejora significativamente; no hay cambios en la sobrecarga ni la satisfacción. En efectos adversos, la obstrucción e infección relacionada con catéter mejoran significativamente; no hay diferencias en dolor y mucositis. La IAP ha servido para implantar evidencias y mejorar los resultados de salud.O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a efetividade da aplicação de evidências pela pesquisa-ação-participante (PAR). Como método usou-se o desenho quase-experimental prospectivo, com dois grupos não equivalentes e concorrentes (2006-2008), em uma unidade de enfermagem para transplante de medula óssea de hospital terciário espanhol. A intervenção estudada foi a integração de evidências pela PAR. As variáveis dependentes estudadas foram: o desempenho profissional e os resultados de saúde nos pacientes (área psicoemocional e efeitos adversos). Recrutaram-se 125 pacientes (Grupo 1=56, Grupo 2=69). Pôde-se observar pelos resultados melhora significativa no segundo grupo, na qualidade dos registros de enfermagem na avaliação de sinais e sintomas do paciente. Na área psicoemocional, o ajuste psicossocial do paciente melhorou significativamente, porém, nenhuma mudança foi observada na sobrecarga do cuidador ou satisfação do paciente. Em relação aos efeitos adversos, tanto o bloqueio quanto a infecção relacionada ao cateter melhoraram significativamente, mas não foi encontrada nenhuma diferença na dor nem na mucosite. Conclui-se que a PAR tem servido para apresentar evidências e melhorar os resultados de saúde

    Adherencia a la Dieta Mediterránea en estudiantes universitarios del norte de México

    Introducción: La dieta mediterránea (DM) es un patrón alimentario altamente reconocido como beneficioso para la salud. Objetivo: Evaluar y comparar por sexo la adherencia a la DM de los estudiantes universitarios del norte de México. Material y Método: Participaron 165 estudiantes universitarios, 88 mujeres y 77 hombres, entre 22 y 34 años, fue un estudio comparativo, descriptivo y transversal, se midieron las variables de estatura y masa corporal y se compararon mediante la prueba estadística ANOVA de un factor, se determinó del índice de masa corporal, la adherencia a la DM se evaluó mediante el cuestionario KIDMED y se analizó con tabla de contingencia y U-Mann Whitney. Resultados: Clasificaron con sobrepeso el 30.7% de las mujeres y el 46.8% de los hombres con diferencia estadística (p<0.04), con obesidad 9.1% en ambos sexos. En la adherencia a la DM el 33.9% clasificó con muy baja, el 48.5% con necesidad de ajustes a los patrones mediterráneos y el 17.6% como óptima, no se reflejó diferencia por sexo (p<.788). Conclusiones: La adherencia a la DM requiere de ajustes a los patrones mediterráneos, por lo que se debe hacer mayor promoción sobre los beneficios de la DM respecto a la dieta occidental

    Powder particle size effects on microstructure and mechanical properties of mechanically alloyed ODS ferritic steels

    This article belongs to the Special Issue New Developments in Dispersion Strengthening of Metals and Alloys.Reduced activation ferritic (RAF) steels are expected to be widely used in challenging nuclear industrial applications under severe thermo-mechanical regimes and intense neutron loads. Therefore, actual research panorama is facing the strengthening strategies necessary to maximize both performance and endurance under these conditions. Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) RAF steels are leader candidates as structural materials in fusion energy reactors thanks to the reinforcement obtained with a fine dispersion of nanosized oxides in their matrix. In this study, the influence of the initial powder particle size and the selected processing route on the final material has been investigated. Two RAF ODS steels coming from atomized pre-alloyed powders with nominal particle powder sizes of 70 and 30 µm and composition Fe-14Cr-2W-0.4Ti-0.3Y2O3 (wt. %) were manufactured by mechanical alloying. Alloyed powders were compacted by hot isostatic pressing, hot crossed rolled, and annealed at 1273 K. Initial powder particle size differences minimize after milling. Both steels present an almost completely recrystallized material and similar grain sizes. The same type and distributions of secondary phases, Cr-W-rich, Ti-rich, and Y-Ti oxide nanoparticles, have been also characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in both alloy samples. The strengthening effect has been confirmed by tensile and Charpy impact tests.     Economic Evaluation of Fluticasone Propionate/ Formoterol (Flutiform ) vs. Fluticasone/Salmeterol and Budesonide/Formoterol in Spain.

    Introduction: The aim of this economic evaluation was to estimate the cost-effectiveness of fluticasone propionate/formoterol (FP/FORM; Flutiform ) and compare it to those of fluticasone/ salmeterol (FS) and budesonide/formoterol (BF) when used in the treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe asthma. Methods: A Markov model was developed with five asthma health states: successful control, suboptimal control, outpatient-managed exacerbation, inpatient-managed exacerbation, and death. The time horizon was set at 12 months. Transition probabilities and indirect resource utilization were derived from previous international and Spanish publications. Univariate and probabilistic sensitivity analyses (SAs) were applied. Results: FP/FORM was less expensive to acquire than FS or BF (20% lower than FS and 30% lower than BF), while the quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of the three options compared were very similar. Cost per patient in the FP/FORM cohort was 9326€/year, making it the cheapest option, 1.5% cheaper than FS and 2.6% cheaper than BF. The suboptimal control health state dominated the costs (80% of the total cost) in each of the analyzed options and scenarios. The results of the SAs verified the data obtained from the base case scenario. Conclusions: From a Spanish societal perspective, in 2014, FP/FORM produced a similar gain in QALYs but at a lower cost when compared to FS and BF in a highly meaningful number of replications and scenarios. FP/FORM can therefore be considered a cost-effective option in the treatment of moderate-to-severe asthma in Spain. The cost savings were mainly due to the significantly lower acquisition cost of FP/FORM than the other two options.post-print872 K

    The regioselective alkylation of pyridinium-N-(2'-azinil)aminides with alkyl halides under mild conditions is described.     Tails and streams around the Galactic globular clusters NGC 1851, NGC 1904, NGC 2298 and NGC 2808

    We present Dark Energy Camera imaging for the peculiar Galactic globular clusters NGC 1851, NGC 1904 (M 79), NGC 2298 and NGC 2808. Our deep photometry reveals that all the clusters have an important contribution of stars beyond their King tidal radii and present tails with different morphologies. We have also explored the surroundings of the clusters where the presence of the Canis Major overdensity and/or the low Galactic latitude Monoceros ring at d⊙ ∼ 8 kpc is evident. A second stellar system is found at d⊙ ∼ 17 kpc and spans at least 18 deg × 15 deg in the sky. As one of the possible scenarios to explain that feature, we propose that the unveiled system is part of Monoceros explained as a density wave moving towards the outer Milky Way. Alternatively, the unveiled system might be connected with other known halo substructures or associated with the progenitor dwarf galaxy of NGC 1851 and NGC 1904, which are widely considered accreted globular clusters

    A revised view of the Canis Major stellar overdensity with DECam and Gaia: new evidence of a stellar warp of blue stars

    We present DECam imaging combined with Gaia DR2 data to study the Canis Major overdensity. The presence of the so-called Blue Plume stars in a low-pollution area of the color-magnitude diagram allows us to derive the distance and proper motions of this stellar feature along the line of sight of its hypothetical core. The stellar overdensity extends on a large area of the sky at low Galactic latitudes, below the plane, and between 230<<255^\circ < \ell < 255^\circ. According to the orbit derived for Canis Major, it presents an on-plane rotation around the Milky Way. Moreover, additional overdensities of Blue Plume stars are found around the plane and across the Galaxy, proving that these objects are not only associated with that structure. The spatial distribution of these stars, derived using Gaia astrometric data, confirms that the detection of the Canis Major overdensity results more from the warped structure of the Milky Way disk than from the accretion of a dwarf galaxy.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA
