This work describes the advancements made in the development of models of numerical analysis, combining Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and programming to exchange information between different applications. This allows improvements in the process, given specific tools can be used to optimize each phase. This approach has been especially useful in studies of stability performed on historical buildings. In these cases it is extremely difficult to develop a model given its complexity if only conventional preprocessing tools are to be used

Current society poses new challenges to educational organizations, their demands reflect the need to train the students for the workplace, raising the importance of participation, teamwork and working together. So schools, especially those that offer secondary teaching, raises the need to establish collaborative relationships with the environment. Due to this fact, our study aims to present objective partnerships that secondary schools in Andalusia have with the environment. To do this, we used a quantitative methodology, that by using the questionnaire helped to contextualize the research problem. The results show that the most important relationships are established with other schools in the city and local institutions, and within less prominent, are established relationships with unions and social partners

The purpose of this paper is to conceptualize a circular business model based on an Eco-Holonic Architecture, through the integration of circular economy and holonic principles. A conceptual model is developed to manage the complexity of integrating circular economy principles, digital transformation, and tools and frameworks for sustainability into business models. The proposed architecture is multilevel and multiscale in order to achieve the instantiation of the sustainable value chain in any territory. The architecture promotes the incorporation of circular economy and holonic principles into new circular business models. This integrated perspective of business model can support the design and upgrade of the manufacturing companies in their respective industrial sectors. The conceptual model proposed is based on activity theory that considers the interactions between technical and social systems and allows the mitigation of the metabolic rift that exists between natural and social metabolism. This study contributes to the existing literature on circular economy, circular business models and activity theory by considering holonic paradigm concerns, which have not been explored yet. This research also offers a unique holonic architecture of circular business model by considering different levels, relationships, dynamism and contextualization (territory) aspects

Regional Spillovers of Transport Infrastructure Investment: A Territorial Cohesion Analysis

Territorial cohesion is a routine part of the job of spatial planners. However, it has not always been measured using a valid and solid methodology. This paper addresses conceptually how regional spillovers of transport investments of the Spanish master plan (‘‘Plan Estratégico de Infraestructuras y Transporte’’ 2005–2020) affect territorial cohesion. Different periods undergo analysis using the ‘‘extraction method’’. We calculate regional spillovers by accessibility gains measured in economic potential units (gravitational method using GDPs for each centroid under analysis). Two different typologies of regional spillovers are given, according to the direction of the effects: upstream and downstream. We conclude that the ‘Plan Estratégico’ favours territorial cohesion of Spain, but the degree of territorial cohesion produced by each region is not uniform. The end of the paper raises a number of suggestions for further research on the interaction of regional spillovers with territorial cohesion

Hip dysplasia is a disease that affects medium and large dogs. It is produced by different causes such as genetics, weight and care of the pet. Currently, in Colombia there are not specialized mechanisms that provide comfort to their lives. Therefore, in the present study, a versatile and standard device was designed to help improve the quality of life of these animals, taking as a reference the breed "German Shepherd". The average weight of the previous one is 28 kilograms and of medium-large size between 45 and 70 centimeters. The device was made considering the health and welfare of the animals considering the mobility and safety of their limbs. Likewise, this mechanism adapts to the canine condition, promoting the use and mobility of its hind legs until mobility is completely lost. Its design and manufacturing cost was 100 USD.La displasia de cadera es una enfermedad que afecta a perros medianos y grandes. Producción CientíficaDiastereoselective ring‐closing metathesis reactions on chiral trienic perhydro‐1,3‐benzoxazines derived from (−)‐8‐aminomenthol featuring two diastereotopic olefin chains is described. The diastereochemical outcome of the cyclization appeared to be dependent on the length and position of the olefin chains in perhydro‐1,3‐benzoxazine, the degree of substitution of the double bonds and the ruthenium catalyst used. After separation of the diastereomers, and removal of the chiral auxiliary, enantiopure oxygen‐ and nitrogen‐containing heterocycles were obtained.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Project FEDER-CTQ2014-59870-P)Junta de Castilla y León (Ref. Spatial analysis of the competitiveness of the high-speed train and air transport: The role of access to terminals in the Madrid? Barcelona corridor

    Get PDF
This paper analyzes the effect of access and egress time to transport terminals over the spatial competiveness of the high-speed train (HST) in the Madrid–Barcelona (Spain) corridor, one of the densest airline domestic markets in the world. Applying spatial data from 2010 provided by a geographical information system (GIS) to a mode choice model estimated with sample travelers in this corridor, the present study examines whether and how the level-of-service of transport terminals spatially affects the competitiveness or modal distribution of HST and air transport in the provinces of Madrid and Barcelona; and, in particular, the degree of competitiveness that can be accrued by the access time provided by private car and transit in different market segments, especially mandatory and leisure trips. In a number of urban zones near train stations and airports, terminal accessibility clearly favors one transport mode in comparison to the other. Improving terminal accessibility via private car or public transit not only affects the relative access to terminals, but also represents a key strategy for readjusting the market shares of the competing modes in the corridor

It is a simple and efficient construction system which continued to be used in subsequent centuries. Nevertheless, structural modelling of this type of wall is not easy to achieve. The two wall faces are not rigidly bound and on the other hand, vaults are normally supported only on the intemal face, resulting in reduced efficiency of the wall unit. Common models of finite elements are unable to solve many of the problems that arise when they are applied to a monumental construction. This paper tackles the problem and puts forward various possibilities of solution with different element types.. It also provides two examples of Gothic monuments in Galicia (Spain) in which structural behaviour was studied using some of these calculation models: the churches of Guimarei and Cambados

DNA methylation in ciliates: implications in differentiation processes

    Get PDF
Much experimental evidence on the role of DNA methylation in gene expression has been reported. Here we review reports on DNA methylation in ciliated protozoa, emphasizing its implications in cell differentiation processes. Both types of methylated bases (adenine and cytosine) can be found in macronuclear DNA. The division cycle and conjugation have been studied with regard to adenine methylation, and several different functions have been assigned to the methylation changes detected in these processes. Cytosine methylation changes were analyzed during stomatogenesis of Paramecium and encystment of Colpoda inflata. A comparative analysis with other similar microbial eukaryotic differentiation processes is carried out
