    Construção de um quadro-cristal para aplicação em ambientes híbridos de ensino tecnológico

    Os estudantes modernos necessitam de estratégias de ensino criativas,engajadoras, e que sejam capazes de minimizar as distrações. Neste contexto, as metodologias ativas com salas de aula invertidas apoiadas em videoaulas se destacam, pois permitem que os alunos façam o autogerenciamento da duração e do ritmo de aprendizagem. Pensando em contribuir para a melhoria do ensino em uma instituição de ensino profissionalizante de Brasília, decidimos construir uma infraestrutura para gravação de videoaulas onde o instrutor fica frente a frente com a câmera enquanto este realiza anotações com canetas luminescentes em uma superfície transparente: o quadro–cristal. Neste artigo compartilhamos nossas experiências durante a construção do primeiro estúdio de lightboard do Distrito Federal, bem como discutimos as boas práticas de uso da ferramenta e mostramos algumas possibilidades didáticas de como ela pode ser explorada no Ensino de Química

    Recent Trends in Pharmacological Activity of Alkaloids in Animal Colitis: Potential Use for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

    Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and disrupted inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. IBD have two main conditions, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and have been extensively investigated in recent years. Antibiotics derived from salicylates, steroids, immunosuppressors, and anti-TNF therapy are part of the therapeutic arsenal for IBD. However, very often patients stop responding to treatments over the time. In this context, searching for alternative agents is crucial for IBD clinical management. Natural products derived from medicinal plants are an interesting therapeutic alternative, since several studies have proven effective treatments in animal models of intestinal inflammation. Several naturally occurring compounds are potent antioxidants, both as free radical scavengers and as modulators of antioxidant enzymes expression and activity. A number of natural compounds have also been proved to inhibit the release of proinflammatory cytokines, decreasing the activation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), which is important to the inflammatory response in IBD. The alkaloids are substances of a very diverse class of plant secondary metabolites; an extensive list of biological activities has been attributed to alkaloids, such as being anticholinergic, antitumor, diuretic, antiviral, antihypertensive, antiulcer, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory.     Fractal signature as a rotational modulation and stellar noise classifier based on the active kepler stars: Assinatura fractal como um classificador de ruído estelar e modulação rotacional baseada nas estrelas ativas da missão kepler

    In this study, we report on the analysis of 701 stars in a solar vicinity defined in three categories namely subsolar, solar, and supersolar with rotation periods between 1 and 70 days, based on rotational modulation signatures inferred from time series from the Kepler mission’s Public Archives. In our analysis, we performed an initial selection based on the rotation period and position in the period–H diagram, where H denotes the Hurst exponent extracted from fractal analysis. To refine our analysis, we applied a fractal approach known as the R/S method, taking into account the fluctuations of the features associated with photometric modulation at different time intervals and the fractality traces that are present in the time series of our sample. In this sense, we computed the so-called Hurst exponent for the referred stars and found that it can provide a strong discriminant of rotational modulation and background noise behavior, going beyond what can be achieved with solely the rotation period itself. Furthermore, our results emphasize that the rotation period of stars is scaled by the exponent H which increases following the increase in the rotation period. Finally, our approach suggests that the referred exponent may be a powerful rotational modulation and noise classifier

    Replacement of pulmonary artery trunk in sheep using tubular valved heterograft in non-aldehydic preservation

    INTRODUCTION: The cardiac bioprostheses are related to thromboembolic events, infectious and degenerative diseases. Wear is mainly attributed to the denaturation of collagen. Glutaraldehyde, the predominant method of preservation of bioprostheses, favors the calcification process and limits their durability. Several techniques try to contain the degenerative process of bioprostheses. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the process of calcification in vivo pulmonary valve heterografts preserved in non-aldehydic (L-Hydro®). METHODS: Seventeen sheep underwent replacement of the pulmonary artery valved tubular grafts of bovine pericardium. The animals were divided into two groups: Group L-Hydro® (test / n = 14) and Group Glutaraldehyde (control / n = 3). About 150 days after implantation the animals were sacrificed, necropsied and implants subjected to a pathological study, radiological evaluation and measurement of calcium by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Statistical analysis was obtained through the Fisher's exact test, Student's t or Mann-Whitney test (significance: 5%). RESULTS: The radiological evaluation, the macroscopic and microscopic measurement of serum calcium by atomic absorption spectrophotometry showed increased calcification of the prosthetic group Glutaraldehyde, when compared to denture-HydroR Group L (P = 0.001). Seven animals in Group L-Hydro® (50%) had adherence of the leaflets to the wall of the tube (P = 0.228). CONCLUSIONS: Prostheses preserved in L-Hydro® were more resistant to calcification when compared with glutaraldehyde preserved.INTRODUÇÃO: As biopróteses valvares cardíacas estão relacionadas a eventos tromboembólicos, infecciosos e degenerativos. Seu desgaste é atribuído principalmente à desnaturação do colágeno. O glutaraldeído, método predominante de preservação de biopróteses, favorece o processo de calcificação e limita sua durabilidade. Diversas técnicas tentam conter o processo degenerativo das biopróteses. OBJETIVO: Avaliar o processo de calcificação, in vivo, de heteroenxertos pulmonares valvados, preservados em meio não-aldeídico (L-Hydro®). MÉTODOS: Dezessete carneiros foram submetidos à substituição do tronco da artéria pulmonar por enxerto tubular valvado de pericárdio bovino. Os animais foram distribuídos em dois grupos: Grupo L-Hydro® (teste / n=14) e Grupo Glutaraldeído (controle /n=3). Cerca de 150 dias pós-implante os animais foram sacrificados, necropsiados e as próteses submetidas a estudo anatomopatológico, avaliação radiológica e dosagem do cálcio por espectrofotometria de absorção atômica. A análise estatística foi obtida por meio dos testes exato de Fisher, T de Student ou Mann-Whitney (significância: 5%). RESULTADOS: A avaliação radiológica, macroscopia, microscopia e dosagem de cálcio por espectrofotometria de absorção atômica demonstraram maior calcificação nas próteses do Grupo Glutaraldeído, quando comparadas às próteses do Grupo L-Hydro® (P=0,001). Sete animais do Grupo L-Hydro® (50%) apresentaram aderência das cúspides à parede do tubo (P=0,228).     Baseado em uma revisão crítica da literatura, indicamos como o construcionismo social fornece importantes contribuições para a compreensão e a identificação dos processos sociais que permeiam as relações das pessoas nas instituições e/ou entre instituições. Apresentamos algumas considerações sobre as principais contribuições da abordagem socioconstrucionista (construcionismo social) para a compreensão da Estratégia como Prática Social. Percebemos, como principais resultados, que a literatura referente ao tema da Estratégia como Prática Social, em geral, concentra-se em questões como conceituação e contextualização da prática social, no entanto, a literatura ainda carece de relatos detalhados sobre as reais possibilidades de análise e intervenção nas situações do contexto organizacional. O debate aqui proposto é primordial para a elaboração de estratégias organizacionais que possibilitem a compreensão da realidade organizacional de forma contextualizada, o que permitiria melhores intervenções na esfera organizacional. Abstract Based on a critical literature review, we indicate how social constructionism provides important contributions for understanding and identifying social processes that permeate the relationships of people in institutions and/or between institutions. We present some considerations about the main contributions of the socio-constructionist approach (social constructionism) for understanding the Strategy as Social Practice. As main results, we perceive that the literature on the theme of Strategy as a Social Practice generally focuses on issues such as defining and contextualizing social practice; however, the literature still lacks detailed reports about the real possibilities of analysis and intervention in situations of organizational context. The debate proposed here is vital to the development of organizational strategies that facilitate understanding of organizational reality in contextualized form, which would allow better interventions in the organizational sphere.     Royal Jelly And Its Dual Role In Tnbs Colitis In Mice.

    Royal Jelly (RJ) is widely consumed in diets throughout the world due to its beneficial effects: antioxidant, antitumor and anti-inflammatory. We have investigated the role of RJ in the development of TNBS colitis in mice. Colitis was induced by a rectal instillation of TNBS at 0.1 mL per mouse. Intestine samples of the animals orally treated with RJ (100, 150, and 200 mg/kg) were collected for antioxidant assays (GSH and GSH-Px), proinflammatory protein quantification (COX-2 and NF-κB), and histological analyses. RJ 100 mg/kg maintained GSH levels and increased the activity of GSH-Px, downregulated key inflammatory mediators (COX-2 and NF-κB), and decreased the lesions caused by TNBS as shown by the histological analyses. In conclusion, RJ showed anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in experimental colitis, resulting in the amelioration of the macroscopic and histological analyses.     Antioxidant Action of Mangrove Polyphenols against Gastric Damage Induced by Absolute Ethanol and Ischemia-Reperfusion in the Rat

    Rhizophora mangle, the red mangrove, has long been known as a traditional medicine. Its bark has been used as astringent, antiseptic, hemostatic, with antifungic and antiulcerogenic properties. In this paper, we aimed to evaluate the antioxidant properties of a buthanolic fraction of the R. mangle bark extract (RM) against experimental gastric ulcer in rats. Unib-Wh rats received pretreatment of R. mangle after the induction of gastric injury with absolute ethanol and ischemia-reperfusion. Gastric tissues from both methods were prepared to the enzymatic assays, the levels of sulfhydril compounds (GSH), lipid peroxides (LPO), and the activities of glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were measured. The RM protected the gastric mucosa in both methods used, ethanol-induced gastric ulcer and ischemia-reperfusion, probably, by modulating the activities of the enzymes SOD, GPx, and GR and increasing or maintaining the levels of GSH; in adittion, LPO levels were reduced. The results suggest that the RM antioxidant activity leads to tissue protection; thus one of the antiulcer mechanisms present on the pharmacological effects of R. mangle is the antioxidant property

    Subclavian Access for Transcatheter CoreValve® Aortic Prosthesis Implantation: Data from the Brazilian Registry

    ABSTRACTBackgroundTransfemoral access is the preferred approach for transcatheter aortic valve implantation. However, some situations, such as the presence of peripheral vascular disease, preclude the use of such access. In these cases, subclavian access is an alternative approach for this procedure. This study aimed at evaluating the Brazilian experience using the subclavian approach for transcatheter CoreValve® prosthesis implantation.MethodsAortic valve area<1cm2, aortic valve ring≥20mm and≤27mm (26mm and 29mm CoreValve®), ascending aorta≤43mm and subclavian artery with a diameter≥6mm, without significant obstructive lesions, marked tortuosity and excess calcification were requisites for the procedure. The access through the subclavian artery was obtained by surgical dissection and, under direct vision, a subclavian artery puncture was performed. Once artery access was obtained, the standard technique was used.ResultsBetween January 2008 and April 2012, 8 patients with peripheral vascular disease underwent CoreValve® prosthesis implantation through the subclavian artery in 4 institutions. The procedure was successful in all cases with reduction of the mean transvalvular pressure gradient from 46.4±17.5mmHg to 9.3±3.6mmHg (P=0.0018) and improvement of symptoms. At 30 days and after 275±231 days of follow-up, 87.5% and 62.5% of the patients, respectively, were free from major adverse events (death, myocardial infarction, stroke and urgent cardiac suregery).ConclusionsIn the Brazilian experience, the subclavian access was a safe and effective alternative for transcatheter CoreValve® implantation

    Background: Sperm sexing aims to separate sperm populations in carriers of the “X” or “Y” chromosome. Currently, flow cytometry is a technique that allows greater accuracy; however, it causes structural changes in sperm, reduces viability, and has a high cost. As a result, other methods have been researched, including immunosexing, which uses monoclonal antibodies to detect sex-specific surface antigens. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the immunosexing technique using a monoclonal antibody against sex-specific protein (HY) in the conservation of ram and goat semen in ACP101/102c.Materials, Methods & Results: Ejaculates from 5 rams and 5 goats were collected with the aid of an artificial vagina; they were evaluated and submitted to the immunosexing protocol, according to the manufacturer's recommendations, using the Monoclonal Antibody Kit specific for mammalian sperm with “Y” chromosomes (HY; HY Biotechnology, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil). After sexing, the supernatant was resuspended in the cryopreservation diluent: ACP ram (ACP101/102c + 20% egg yolk + 7% glycerol) and ACP goat (ACP101/102c + 2.5% egg yolk + 7% glycerol), packaged in 0.25 mL straws, refrigerated at 4°C, stabilized for 30 min, frozen in liquid nitrogen vapor (-60°C) for 15 min, immersed in liquid nitrogen, and stored in cryogenic cylinders. The samples were evaluated in natura (T1), after immunosexing (T2) and after thawing (T3) for sperm motility subjectively using conventional microscopy (40x). Plasma membrane integrity (IMP) and sperm cell morphology were evaluated by the smear staining technique using eosin-nigrosine dye, and the percentages of healthy and morphologically defect spermatozoa were determined. In the evaluation of ram semen regarding sperm motility and IMP, no statistically significant differences were observed between treatments after sexing in the evaluation of absolute data (P > 0.05), with the difference being observed only between T1 and T2, and T3 (P 0.05). Regarding the evaluation of goat semen samples, the motility parameters were consistent with the technique submitted; however, the IMP data did not appear as expected, requiring further evaluation for a better assessment of the technique for this species.Discussion: The data obtained from ram semen submitted to the immunosexing protocol, regarding the absolute evaluation of motility and IMP, demonstrated that the non-sexed semen (T1) was superior to the sexed treatments (T2 and T3); however, it is noteworthy that freezing started with approximately 50% of the cells, since the immunosexing technique results in a loss of viability of approximately 50% of the sperm, which corresponds to the ratio of sperm carrying the X chromosome. In addition, when the data in this study were transformed into relative values, no statistical differences were observed, indicating that the immunosexing protocol, as well as the freezing protocol, did not significantly affect the quality of ram sperm cells. In relation to the immunosexing of goat semen, future studies should be conducted in vitro to define a more appropriate protocol for the species and, in addition, in vivo studies should be performed to prove the quality of the technique. It was concluded that the immunosexing process using a monoclonal antibody against sex-specific protein (HY) associated with the use of powdered coconut water diluent (ACP101/102c) in the cryopreservation of semen proved to be efficient in the in vitro evaluation of ovine species
