    With the advent of new media technologies, eHealth applications have become a growing and promising form for health campaigns. These programs have provided an opportunity to engage LGBT populations and other disenfranchised communities in order to understand their health and information needs, and improve overall wellbeing of these groups. Using a mixed-methods analysis of a pilot mobile phone program in the Washington, D.C. area, this study seeks to understand how mobile technology aids homeless LGBT youth in navigating their daily lives, and how such technology might help improve health outcomes for these individuals.Master of Art

    Acoustic Liner Drag: Further Measurements on Novel Facesheet Perforate Geometries

    Over the past several years, the NASA Langley Liner Physics Team has worked to develop methods capable of characterizing the aerodynamic drag of acoustic liners in addition to their acoustic performance. For a given liner, one can compute its resistance factor, , based on static pressure drop measurements. The current study details experiments in the NASA Langley Grazing Flow Impedance Tube to quantify the relative drag of several perforate-over-honeycomb liner configurations at flow speeds of Mach 0.3 and 0.5. The liner facesheets incorporate novel perforate geometries rather than the conventional, round hole designs typically used. Measurements of the resistance factor for each liner are made with and without acoustic excitation. A tonal acoustic source is used at sound pressure levels of 140 and 150 dB over a frequency range of 400 to 3000 Hz when performing acoustic measurements. Educed impedance spectra are calculated to determine the impact of variations in perforate geometry on acoustic performance and the relationship between acoustic and drag performance

    Diamagnetic depression observations at Saturn’s magnetospheric cusp by the Cassini spacecraft

    The magnetospheric cusp is a region where shocked solar wind plasma can enter a planetary magnetosphere, after magnetic reconnection has occurred at the dayside magnetopause or in the lobes. The dense plasma that enters the high‐latitude magnetosphere creates diamagnetic effects whereby a depression is observed in the magnetic field. We present observations of the cusp events at Saturn’s magnetosphere where these diamagnetic depressions are found. The data are subtracted from a magnetic field model, and the calculated magnetic pressure deficits are compared to the particle pressures. A high plasma pressure layer in the magnetosphere adjacent to the cusp is discovered to also depress the magnetic field, outside of the cusp. This layer is observed to contain energetic He++ (up to ∼100 keV) from the solar wind as well as heavy water group ions (W+) originating from the moon Enceladus.     In the title compound, C15H12N4O4, the dihedral angle between the heterocyclic rings is 12.60 (8)°, and that between the benzene ring and the adjacent heterocyclic ring is 85.14 (6)°. In the crystal, a combination of N-H...O and O-H...O hydrogen bonds link mol­ecules related by a glide plane into a C(5) C(6)[R22(9)] chain of rings, which is a distinctly different packing motif to those observed in hydrated modifications of this compound

    Cassini plasma observations of Saturn's magnetospheric cusp

    The magnetospheric cusp is a funnel-shaped region where shocked solar wind plasma is able to enter the high latitude magnetosphere via the process of magnetic reconnection. The plasma observations include various cusp signatures such as ion energy dispersions as well as diamagnetic effects. We present an overview analysis of the cusp plasma observations at the Saturnian magnetosphere from the Cassini spacecraft era. A comparison of the observations is made as well as classification into groups due to varying characteristics. The locations of the reconnection site are calculated and shown to vary along the subsolar magnetopause. We show the first in situ evidence for lobe reconnection that occurred at nearly the same time as dayside reconnection for one of the cusp crossings. Evidence for 'bursty' and more 'continous' reconnection signatures are observed in different cusp events. The events are compared to solar wind propagation models and it is shown that magnetic reconnection and plasma injection into the cusp can occur for a variety of upstream conditions. These are important results because they show that Saturn's magnetospheric interaction with the solar wind and the resulting cusp signatures are dynamic, and that plasma injection in the cusp occurs due to a variety of solar wind conditions. Furthermore, reconnection can proceed at a variety of locations along the magnetopause

    In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu2Br2(C9H14N2S)2], the mol­ecule resides about a crystallographic inversion center. The coordination sphere around each copper ion has a distorted tetra­hedral geometry, with ligation by two bridging bromide ions, an amine N atom and an imine N atom. The thio­phene ring is disordered over two sites, with occupancies of 0.719 (3) and 0.281 (3). Weak C—H⋯π inter­actions feature in the crystal packing

    The structures of six chalcones containing 5-halogeno­thio­phen-2-yl substituents are reported: (2E)-1-(5-chloro­thio­phen-2-yl)-3-(4-ethyl­phen­yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C15H13ClOS, (I), and (2E)-1-(5-bromo­thio­phen-2-yl)-3-(4-ethyl­phen­yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C15H13BrOS, (II), are isostructural in space group P-1, while (2E)-1-(5-chloro­thio­phen-2-yl)-3-(4-eth­oxy­phen­yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C15H13ClO2S, (III), and (2E)-1-(5-bromo­thio­phen-2-yl)-3-(4-eth­oxy­phen­yl)prop-2-en-1-one C15H13BrO2S, (IV), are isostructural in space group P21/c. There are no hydrogen bonds of any kind in the structures of compounds (I) and (II), but in the structures of compounds (III) and (IV), the mol­ecules are linked into C(7) chains by means of C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the structure of (2E)-3-(4-bromo­phen­yl)-1-(5-chloro­thio­phen-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C13H8BrClOS, (V), there are again no hydrogen bonds nor π–π stacking inter­actions but in that of (2E)-1-(5-bromo­thio­phen-2-yl)-3-(3-meth­oxy­phen­yl)prop-2-en-1-one, C14H11BrO2S, (VI), the mol­ecules are linked into C(5) chains by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In each of compounds (I)–(VI), the mol­ecular skeletons are close to planarity, and there are short halogen⋯halogen contacts in the structures of compounds (II) and (V) and a short Br⋯O contact in the structure of compound (VI). Comparisons are made with the structures of some similar compounds

    Principal and Teacher Reports of Principal Leadership: An Examination of Congruence and Predictive Validity

    Principals influence school characteristics including morale and teacher turnover, but the utility of different methods of measuring principal behavior is unclear. Using data from public schools in the National Study of Delinquency Prevention in Schools, I examined relations between school-level teacher reports and principal self-reports of leadership, which better predicted student-reported rule clarity and fairness, and whether agreement or congruence between reports of principal leadership predicted school morale, organizational focus, and teacher turnover. The data used are from 263 schools and thousands of respondents; limitations of the study include the measures of principal leadership used, which are not strictly parallel and the age of the data used. I hypothesized that correlations between teacher and principal reports would be small and positive, that teacher reports of leadership would better predict rule clarity and fairness, and that congruence between reports would predict better school morale, better organizational focus, and lower teacher turnover
