    The role of recorded and verbal information in health information systems: A case study of the Expanded Program on Immunization in Mozambique

    Background: There is ongoing interest in strengthening the informational component of the EPI as a mean to enhance the efficacy of service delivery. As developing country governments make significant investments in strengthening health information systems, benefits obtained from these initiatives tend to be below their potential. To improve this, it is argued that such systems need to take into account both formal (documented) and informal forms of information. Objective: This study measures the accuracy of people-based information with information recorded in the \"Road to Health Card\". Methods: 840 mothers were screened in a cross sectional study. Information about measles immunization status as documented in the Road to Health card was compared to mothers\' verbal information. The pattern of these answers among mothers presenting the card was compared with those among mothers without the card. Results: Measles vaccine information was 95.7% sensitive and 80.0% specific. Measles vaccination positive answer was 10.0% higher among mothers without the card. In the sample of mothers without the vaccination card, only 2.0% never received a card, 53.0% had forgotten to bring it, and the remaining 44.0% had lost it. Conclusion: A key implication of these findings is the need to develop a mother-specific information system that is based at the facility, and an integration of the verbal and tacit information sources while designing the information system. Further recommendation concerns the need to have more targeted information and education programs about the importance of the Road to Health Cards, especially focused for less educated mothers.The Ethiopian Journal of Health Development Vol. 21 (2) 2007: pp. 136-14

    Micro evolution of bitter taste domain drugs

    Ayurveda classified the drugs in various ways and one of which the classification is based on Rasa (taste) dominancy. Rasa is essential to identify drugs and to know its therapeutic application. In this study the drug has been selected according to Charaka classification of Tikta Rasa (bitter taste) drugs with an aim to find out the similar characters among all the drugs having bitter Rasa dominancy. Till date there is no data available regarding the pharmacognostical evaluation in concern bitter taste. For the first time selected five bitter drugs are subjected to various pharmacognostical evaluation, result reveals that Organoleptic characters of all five drugs give bitter taste, microscopic evaluation revealed that presence of starch grain, vessels, fiber , brown content are dominant in all five raw drug and all the five powder subjected to alkaloid test by using dragondroff reagent and give positive result for alkaloid

    Kualitas layanan dan Kenyamanan sangat ditentukan oleh orang, dan lingkungan pelayanan. Tujuan penelitian untuk membuktikan pengaruh servicescape, interaction quality, dan service convenience terhadap service quality. Responden penelitian adalah para pelanggan pada beberapa minimarket di Kota Manado dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 121 orang. Teknik analisis menggunakan Analisis Jalur dengan menggunakan SPSS 18. Hasil penelitian menunjukan servicescape berpengaruh tidak signifikan terhadap service convenience dan service quality. Sementara interaction quality berpengaruh signifikan terhadap service convenience dan service quality. Service convenience memediasi pengaruh servicescape dan service convenience terhadap service quality.Sebaiknya pihak manajemen minimarket mempertahankan dan meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan karyawan. Interaksi antar karyawan dengan karyawan, maupun karyawan dengan pelanggan akan lebih baik bila, pihak manajemen juga memperhatikan Kenyamanan tempat berbelanja, dan merekrut tenaga kerja dari masyarakat sekitar tempat USAha

    Xe Irradiation of Graphene on Ir(111): From Trapping to Blistering

    Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermal desorption spectroscopy, and scanning tunneling microscopy we show that upon keV Xe + irradiation of graphene on Ir(111), Xe atoms are trapped under the graphene. Upon annealing, aggregation of Xe leads to graphene bulges and blisters. The efficient trapping is an unexpected and remarkable phenomenon, given the absence of chemical binding of Xe to Ir and to graphene, the weak interaction of a perfect graphene layer with Ir(111), as well as the substantial damage to graphene due to irradiation. By combining molecular dynamics simulations and density functional theory calculations with our experiments, we uncover the mechanism of trapping. We describe ways to avoid blister formation during graphene growth, and also demonstrate how ion implantation can be used to intentionally create blisters without introducing damage to the graphene layer. Our approach may provide a pathway to synthesize new materials at a substrate - 2D material interface or to enable confined reactions at high pressures and temperatures

    A Fuzzy Criticality Assessment System of Process Equipment for Optimized Maintenance Management.

    yesIn modern chemical plants, it is essential to establish an effective maintenance strategy which will deliver financially driven results at optimised conditions, that is, minimum cost and time, by means of a criticality review of equipment in maintenance. In this article, a fuzzy logic-based criticality assessment system (FCAS) for the management of a local company’s equipment maintenance is introduced. This fuzzy system is shown to improve the conventional crisp criticality assessment system (CCAS). Results from case studies show that not only can the fuzzy logic-based system do what the conventional crisp system does but also it can output more criticality classifications with an improved reliability and a greater number of different ratings that account for fuzziness and individual voice of the decision-makers

    Quasisymmetric graphs and Zygmund functions

    A quasisymmetric graph is a curve whose projection onto a line is a quasisymmetric map. We show that this class of curves is related to solutions of the reduced Beltrami equation and to a generalization of the Zygmund class Λ\Lambda_*. This relation makes it possible to use the tools of harmonic analysis to construct nontrivial examples of quasisymmetric graphs and of quasiconformal maps.Comment: 21 pages, no figure

    Risk factors for incomplete vaccination and missed opportunity for immunization in rural Mozambique

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Inadequate levels of immunization against childhood diseases remain a significant public health problem in resource-poor areas of the globe. Nonetheless, the reasons for incomplete vaccination and non-uptake of immunization services are poorly understood. This study aimed at finding out the reasons for non-vaccination and the magnitude of missed opportunities for vaccination in children less than two years of age in a rural area in southern Mozambique.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Mothers of children under two years of age (N = 668) were interviewed in a cross-sectional study. The Road-to-Health card was utilized to check for completeness and correctness of vaccination schedule as well as for identifying the appropriate use of all available opportunities for vaccination. The chi-square test and the logistic regression were used for statistical analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We found that 28.2% of the children had not completed the vaccination program by two years of age, 25.7% had experienced a missed opportunity for vaccination and 14.9% were incorrectly vaccinated. Reasons for incomplete vaccination were associated with accessibility to the vaccination sites, no schooling of mothers and children born at home or outside Mozambique.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Efforts to increase vaccination coverage should take into account factors that contribute to the incomplete vaccination status of children. Missed opportunities for vaccination and incorrect vaccination need to be avoided in order to increase the vaccine coverage for those clients that reach the health facility, specially in those countries where health services do not have 100% of coverage.</p

    A partition functional and thermodynamic properties of the infinite-dimensional Hubbard model

    An approximate partition functional is derived for the infinite-dimensional Hubbard model. This functional naturally includes the exact solution of the Falicov-Kimball model as a special case, and is exact in the uncorrelated and atomic limits. It explicitly keeps spin-symmetry. For the case of the Lorentzian density of states, we find that the Luttinger theorem is satisfied at zero temperature. The susceptibility crosses over smoothly from that expected for an uncorrelated state with antiferromagnetic fluctuations at high temperature to a correlated state at low temperature via a Kondo-type anomaly at a characteristic temperature TT^\star. We attribute this anomaly to the appearance of the Hubbard pseudo-gap. The specific heat also shows a peak near TT^\star. The resistivity goes to zero at zero temperature, in contrast to other approximations, rises sharply around TT^\star and has a rough linear temperature dependence above TT^\star.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures upon request, latex, (to appear in Phys.     Effect of eclampsia on pregnancy outcome at the tertiary care center

    Background: Eclampsia is a common medical and life-threatening emergency condition mainly seen in 5-10% of all pregnancies and that is a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality The aim of the study to find out the fetomaternal outcomes of eclampsia in tertiary care hospital and to analyse the trend of eclampsia and associated epidemiological variables.Methods: This retrospective analytical study was undertaken with 40 clinically diagnosed women with eclampsia in their third trimester of pregnancy in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at tertiary care hospital from July 2020 to December 2021. Women who came to the hospital with eclampsia or developed eclampsia during hospital stay were included in our study.Results: In our study, the antepartum eclampsia was in 32 cases (80%), primigravida 27 cases (67.5%), maternal age (21-30 years) 26 cases (65%). Cesarean section was the mode of delivery in 26 cases (65%). NICU admission is required by 20 neonates (50%).Conclusions: Eclampsia is an important cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Providing quality antenatal health care services, increasing awareness of patients about warning symptoms, proper investigations, timely delivery, and proper monitoring in the intrapartum and postpartum period have the potential to improve maternal and perinatal outcomes.
