Bioactive Compounds and Antioxidant Capacity of Moringa Leaves Grown in Spain Versus 28 Leaves Commonly Consumed in Pre-Packaged Salads
Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) evaluated by ferric ion reducing antioxidant power
(FRAP) assay, ABTS, DPPH, and Oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay, and total
polyphenol content (TPC) by Folin–Ciocalteu were determined in Moringa oleifera leaves (MO) grown
in Spain, and compared with 28 different vegetable leaves pre-packaged for consumption as a salad.
Total carotenoids, flavonoids, and chlorophylls were also determined in the samples with highest TAC.
Two different extraction procedures were applied to obtain the methanolic fraction and the lipophilic
and hydrophilic fractions. The highest TAC and TPC contents were found in MO. High values were
also found in red chicory, “lollo rosso”, and oak lettuce. The lowest TAC and TPC values were
obtained in iceberg lettuce. The correlations between the extraction procedures and methods assayed
were high and statistically significant. In the light of these results, we suggest the addition of MO to
the existing range of fresh-cut salad foods would increase their antioxidant content by up to six times.Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness

Photocatalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate using ilmenite (FeTiO3) for Enterococcus faecalis inactivation
In this work, a raw and low cost mineral, ilmenite (FeTiO3), has been tested for the first time as a photocatalyst paired with peroxymonosulfate (HSO5-; PMS) for the inactivation of Enterococcus faecalis as an alternative to conventional treatments to disinfect wastewater for reuse. The influence of some operational parameters such as reagent dosage, catalyst concentration, initial pH, or flow rate was also studied and optimized. After several tests, the scarce pure photoactivity under UV-A was remarked by ilmenite because of its high iron content, which favors photogenerated charge recombination. However, ilmenite activity was highly promoted when combined with low concentrations of PMS and UV-A light, reaching total inactivation of Enterococcus faecalis in 120 min. Quenching tests were performed using methanol, tert-butyl alcohol, furfuryl alcohol, and Cu(II) to assess the main reactive species involved in the disinfection process determining the critical role of both HO·and SO4·- radicals in the process. Finally, the influence of the water matrix was also evaluated by studying the effect of water hardness and the presence of nutrients on the system. Overall, the PMS/Ilmenite/UV-A system yielded promising results with a total removal of Enterococcus faecalis in 120 min. However, it also showed the need for further study and understanding of the disinfection mechanism to achieve the same level of performance in real wastewaterPGM acknowledges Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (UPM) for the project ETSII-UPM20–03. Electron Scattering from 1-Methyl-5-Nitroimidazole: Cross-Sections forModeling Electron Transport through Potential Radiosensitizers
In this study, we present a complete set of electron scattering cross-sections from 1-Methyl-5- Nitroimidazole (1M5NI) molecules for impact energies ranging from 0.1 to 1000 eV. This information is relevant to evaluate the potential role of 1M5NI as a molecular radiosensitizers. The total electron scattering cross-sections (TCS) that we previously measured with a magnetically confined electron transmission apparatus were considered as the reference values for the present analysis. Elastic scattering cross-sections were calculated by means of two different schemes: The Schwinger multichannel (SMC) method for the lower energies (below 15 eV) and the independent atom model-based screening-corrected additivity rule with interferences (IAM-SCARI) for higher energies (above 15 eV). The latter was also applied to calculate the total ionization cross-sections, which were complemented with experimental values of the induced cationic fragmentation by electron impact. Double differential ionization cross-sections were measured with a reaction microscope multi-particle coincidence spectrometer. Using a momentum imaging spectrometer, direct measurements of the anion fragment yields and kinetic energies by the dissociative electron attachment are also presented. Cross-sections for the other inelastic channels were derived with a self-consistent procedure by sampling their values at a given energy to ensure that the sum of the cross-sections of all the scattering processes available at that energy coincides with the corresponding TCS. This cross-section data set is ready to be used for modelling electron-induced radiation damage at the molecular level to biologically relevant media containing 1M5NI as a potential radiosensitizer. Nonetheless, a proper evaluation of its radiosensitizing effects would require further radiobiological experiments
Propuesta de una guía instructiva dirigida a la familia del paciente alcohólico
A retrospective and descriptive study with quanti and quality cross-sectional approach was conducted during the first quarter of 2015 with relatives of dependent alcoholic patients previously diagnosed on individual and group consultation belonging to “Capitán Roberto Fleites” Policlinic. The universe was composed by 579 families; the sample size was 25 families of alcoholic patients in the Group of mutual help of alcoholism. Two questionnaires were applied: one, created by the researcher and subject to an assessment according to the criteria of specialists, consisting of 16 closed questions; the second was the test to assess family functioning. Later it was made an instructive guide directed to family of alcoholic patient that contemplated, fundamentally, instructive aspects of orientation to report to what services to go in order to help these patients and their families. There was a predominance of family nuclearization and policy crisis like phase change between two stages and prevailed crisis by demoralization and the high incidence of family dysfunction and mechanism of family to face with drug dependency of touching the bottom or going to the root of the problem turned out to be predominant. The proposed of instructive guide was considered to be very adapted by a high per cent of consulted specialists.

Best Treatment Option for Patients With Refractory Aggressive B-Cell Lymphoma in the CAR-T Cell Era: Real-World Evidence From GELTAMO/GETH Spanish Groups
Real-world evidence comparing the efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy against that of the previous standard of care (SOC) for refractory large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is scarce. We retrospectively collected data from patients with LBCL according to SCHOLAR-1 criteria treated with commercial CAR T-cell therapy in Spain (204 patients included and 192 treated, 101 with axicabtagene ciloleucel [axi-cel], and 91 with tisagenlecleucel [tisa-cel]) and compared the results with a historical refractory population of patients (n = 81) obtained from the GELTAMO-IPI study. We observed superior efficacy for CAR-T therapy (for both axi-cel and tisa-cel) over pSOC, with longer progression-free survival (PFS) (median of 5.6 vs. 4-6 months, p <= 0.001) and overall survival (OS) (median of 15 vs. 8 months, p < 0.001), independently of other prognostic factors (HR: 0.59 (95% CI: 0.44-0.80); p < 0.001] for PFS, and 0.45 [(95% CI: 0.31-0.64)] for OS). Within the CAR-T cohort, axi-cel showed longer PFS (median of 7.3 versus 2.8 months, respectively, p = 0.027) and OS (58% versus 42% at 12 months, respectively, p = 0.048) than tisa-cel. These differences were maintained in the multivariable analysis. On the other hand, axi-cel was independently associated with a higher risk of severe cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity. Our results suggest that the efficacy of CAR-T cell therapy is superior to pSOC in the real-world setting. Furthermore, axi-cel could be superior in efficacy to tisa-cel, although more toxic, in this group of refractory patients according to SCHOLAR-1 criteria
