O uso do crescimento econômico como fonte para a saída de crises – como defendido pelos keynesianos, desenvolvimentistas e recentemente pelos novos desenvolvimentistas – ou como um caminho para o “sonhado” desenvolvimento dos países pobres talvez não esteja mais disponível no período recente, como afirmou Resende (2012a, 2012b). Neste contexto, qual deve ser a alternativa para a economia brasileira que leve em conta as restrições biofísicas do sistema natural? Orientador: Armando Joao Dalla CostaMonografia(Graduaçao) - Universidade Federal do Paraná,Setor de Ciencias Sociais Aplicadas, Curso de Ciencias EconômicasResumo: Esta Monografia tem como objetivo estudar a indústria química do município de Sào José dos Pinhais, localizada na região metropolitana de Curitiba, sob o enfoque teórico dos Arranjos Produtivos Locais (APL's), conceito este adotado pela Rede de Pesquisa em Sistemas Produtivos e Inovativos Locais - Redesist/UFRJ. O estudo compreende uma revisão da literatura sobre a formação teórica dos APL's, o qual destaca os principais elementos que caracterizam esses arranjos, e uma investigação sobre as possibilidades da indústria química local consolidar um ambiente que a caracterize como um APL. O levantamento das informações junto às firmas, atr avés da realização de uma pesquisa de campo, revelou a existência de uma estrutura favorável à consolidação de um APL, embora se observem algumas fragilidades nas relações entre a indústria e os agentes externos, que se encontram potencialmente ligados ao desenvolvimento de um ambiente cooperativo naquela indústria

Perspectives for the biodiesel production and the Brazilian family farmers in the semi-arid region

Innovation for sustainable energyThe demand expansion for biofuels from oleaginous plants (biodiesel) can effectively represent an opportunity of employment and income generation for the small family farms in the Northeastern semi-arid region as intended by the current government. This is due to some arboreal and shrubby plants whose characteristics are favorable to oil production that may foster family farms in terms of hand labor availability. There are, however, two main obstacles which are not appropriately addressed by the current official incentive policies: the first one concerns the fragility of productive structure of the family farms in the region, specially the lack of the producers’ self organization capacity; the second one is related to agronomic problems of the main crops still to be properly addressed by additional research investment. The solution for both limitations demands a great effort of rural extension and agronomic research

Dinâmica de ocupação do cerrado nordestino pela agricultura: 1990 e 2012

: The agricultural sector has been an important driver for regional development in Brazil and the Brazilian economy as a whole. In this sense, the use of indicators and methods to identify the sources of growth of crop production in the Northeastern Cerrado region can support the design of policies to manage the use and occupation of land in agricultural areas, as well as guide investment in infrastructure, for example. From the 1990s onwards, a new agricultural frontier based on capital intense production systems is being opened in Brazil, the territory known as Cerrado Nordestino. In this context, the aim of this paper is to identify and analyze, based on the Shift-share Model, some of the sources of growth in temporary crop production in Cerrado Nordestino from 1990 to 2012, which are leading the occupation of the territory. The results were performed at the municipal scale, which allowed the spatial distribution of crops and the identification of the most dynamic areas. Soybean and corn have driven the occupation of agricultural frontier.: O setor agropecuário tem sido um importante vetor do desenvolvimento regional e da própria economia brasileira. Neste sentido, o uso de indicadores e métodos para a identificação das fontes de crescimento da produção agrícola pode subsidiar a concepção de políticas mais adequadas para a gestão do uso das terras em fronteiras agrícolas, assim como orientar os investimentos em infraestrutura. A partir dos anos 1990 uma nova fronteira agrícola, apoiada em modernas bases de produção, está sendo aberta no País, no território conhecido como Cerrado Nordestino. Neste contexto, o objetivo principal é analisar a dinâmica de ocupação do Cerrado Nordestino pelas culturas temporárias entre 1990 e 2012. A análise foi realizada com auxílio do Modelo Shift-share, mas na escala municipal, o que permitiu a espacialização dos resultados e a identificação de áreas mais dinâmicas.
