Lightning discharge protection rod

A system for protecting an in-air vehicle from damage due to a lighning strike is disclosed. It is an extremely simple device consisting of a sacrificial graphite composite rod, approximately the diameter of a pencil with a length of about five inches. The sacrificial rod is constructed with the graphite fibers running axially within the rod in a manner that best provides a path of conduction axially from the trailing edge of an aircraft to the trailing end of the rod. The sacrificial rod is inserted into an attachment hole machined into trailing edges of aircraft flight surfaces, such as a vertical fin cap and attached with adhesive in a manner not prohibiting the conduction path between the rod and the aircraft. The trailing end of the rod may be tapered for aerodynamic and esthetic requirements. This rod is sacrificial but has the capability to sustain several lightning strikes and still provide protection

System for sterilizing objects

A system for producing a stream of humidified sterilizing gas for sterilizing objects such as the water systems of space vehicles and the like includes a source of sterilant gas which is fed to a mixing chamber which has inlet and outlet ports. The level of the water only partially fills the mixing chamber so as to provide an empty space adjacent the top of the chamber. A heater is provided for heating the water in the chamber so as to produce a humidified atmosphere. The sterilant gas is fed through an arcuate shaped tubular member connected to the inlet port of the mixing chamber for producing a vortex type of flow of sterilant gas into the chamber for humidification. A tubular member extends from the mixing chamber for supplying the humidified sterilant gas to the object for being sterilized. Scrubbers are provided for removing the sterilant gas after use

The purpose of this study is to, summarize in narrative form the legislative history of the Voting Rights .Act of 1965.~ Its history can be divided into four phases: (1) the presidential address, (2) the legislative history of H. R. 6400 in the United States House of Representatives, (3) the legislative history of S. 1564 in the United Stat es Senate, and ( 4) the signing of the 11.ct by the President of the United States. Of course, this writer readily acknowledges the fact thlt this thesis represents only a summary of the Act\u27s legislative history and by no means encompasses every aspect of the legislative process as found in the House and Senate. Also, it is important to note that emphasis has been placed almost solely upon the mechanics involved in the legislative process and not upon the various arguments for and against the Act
