Spitzer UltRa Faint SUrvey Program (SURFS UP). II. IRAC-Detected Lyman-Break Galaxies at 6 < z < 10 Behind Strong-Lensing Clusters
We study the stellar population properties of the IRAC-detected galaxy candidates from the Spitzer UltRa Faint SUrvey Program
(SURFS UP). Using the Lyman Break selection technique, we find a total of 16
new galaxy candidates at with in at
least one of the IRAC m and m bands. According to the best mass
models available for the surveyed galaxy clusters, these IRAC-detected galaxy
candidates are magnified by factors of --. We find that the
IRAC-detected sample is likely not a homogeneous
galaxy population: some are relatively massive (stellar mass as high as ) and evolved (age Myr) galaxies, while
others are less massive () and very
young ( Myr) galaxies with strong nebular emission lines that boost
their rest-frame optical fluxes. We identify two Ly emitters in our
sample from the Keck DEIMOS spectra, one at (in
RXJ1347) and one at (in MACS0454). We show that IRAC
color, when combined with photometric redshift, can be used to
identify galaxies likely with strong nebular emission lines within certain

What Does Brain Response to Neutral Faces Tell Us about Major Depression? Evidence from Machine Learning and fMRI
Introduction: A considerable number of previous studies have shown abnormalities in the processing of emotional faces in major depression. Fewer studies, however, have focused specifically on abnormal processing of neutral faces despite evidence that depressed patients are slow and less accurate at recognizing neutral expressions in comparison with healthy controls. The current study aimed to investigate whether this misclassification described behaviourally for neutral faces also occurred when classifying patterns of brain activation to neutral faces for these patients. Methods: Two independent depressed samples: (1) Nineteen medication-free patients with depression and 19 healthy volunteers and (2) Eighteen depressed individuals and 18 age and gender-ratio-matched healthy volunteers viewed emotional faces (sad/neutral; happy/neutral) during an fMRI experiment. We used a new pattern recognition framework: first, we trained the classifier to discriminate between two brain states (e.g. viewing happy faces vs. viewing neutral faces) using data only from healthy controls (HC). Second, we tested the classifier using patterns of brain activation of a patient and a healthy control for the same stimuli. Finally, we tested if the classifier's predictions (predictive probabilities) for emotional and neutral face classification were different for healthy controls and depressed patients. Results: Predictive probabilities to patterns of brain activation to neutral faces in both groups of patients were significantly lower in comparison to the healthy controls. This difference was specific to neutral faces. There were no significant differences in predictive probabilities to patterns of brain activation to sad faces (sample 1) and happy faces (samples 2) between depressed patients and healthy controls. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the pattern of brain activation to neutral faces in depressed patients is not consistent with the pattern observed in healthy controls subject to the same stimuli. This difference in brain activation might underlie the behavioural misinterpretation of the neutral faces content by the depressed patients. © 2013 Oliveira et al

The two position angles (P.A.s) of Grism Lens-Amplified Survey from Space (GLASS) data analyzed in this study were taken on 2014 August 22 and 23 (P.A.=135) and 2014 October 24 and 25 (P.A.=233), respectively. The Hubble Frontier Fields initiative (HFF, P.I. Lotz) is a Director's Discretionary Time legacy program with HST devoting 840 orbits of HST time to acquire optical ACS and NIR WFC3 imaging of six of the strongest lensing galaxy clusters on the sky. All six HFF clusters are included in the GLASS sample. The Spitzer Frontier Fields program (P.I. Soifer) is a Director's Discretionary Time program that images all six strong lensing galaxy clusters targeted by the HFF in both warm IRAC channels (3.6 and 4.5um)
Did Corporate Governance Compliance Have an Impact on Auditor Selection and Quality? Evidence From FTSE 350

The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link.This paper examines the possible effects of corporate governance (GC) on audit quality (AQ) among the FTSE 350 companies. Using a sample of 180 companies from 2012 to 2017 (i.e., 1080 firm-year observations) a binary logistic model has been employed to investigate the CG-AQ nexus. This analysis was supported by conducting a probit logistic model as a sensitivity analysis. Our findings are associative of a heterogeneous impact of CG on AQ post the implementation of the 2012 CG reforms in the UK. For example, although institutional ownership and management ownership are positively associated with auditor selection and AQ, board independence, non-executive directors and audit committee are not attributed to AQ in the UK. This implies that corporate compliance with good CG practices has a limited impact on the decision to select a Big4 auditor in the UK. Despite the limitations of our study, we hope it can motivate further investigations in this area
Interaction of catechol O-methyltransferase and serotonin transporter genes modulates effective connectivity in a facial emotion-processing circuitry
Imaging genetic studies showed exaggerated blood oxygenation level-dependent response in limbic structures in carriers of low activity alleles of serotonin transporter-linked promoter region (5-HTTLPR) as well as catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT) genes. This was suggested to underlie the vulnerability to mood disorders. To better understand the mechanisms of vulnerability, it is important to investigate the genetic modulation of frontal-limbic connectivity that underlies emotional regulation and control. In this study, we have examined the interaction of 5-HTTLPR and COMT genetic markers on effective connectivity within neural circuitry for emotional facial expressions. A total of 91 healthy Caucasian adults underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging experiments with a task presenting dynamic emotional facial expressions of fear, sadness, happiness and anger. The effective connectivity within the facial processing circuitry was assessed with Granger causality method. We have demonstrated that in fear processing condition, an interaction between 5-HTTLPR (S) and COMT (met) low activity alleles was associated with reduced reciprocal connectivity within the circuitry including bilateral fusiform/inferior occipital regions, right superior temporal gyrus/superior temporal sulcus, bilateral inferior/middle prefrontal cortex and right amygdala. We suggest that the epistatic effect of reduced effective connectivity may underlie an inefficient emotion regulation that places these individuals at greater risk for depressive disorders
Fungal infection-related mortality versus total mortality as an outcome in trials of antifungal agents
BACKGROUND: Disease specific mortality is often used as outcome rather than total mortality in clinical trials. This approach assumes that the classification of cause of death is unbiased. We explored whether use of fungal infection-related mortality as outcome rather than total mortality leads to bias in trials of antifungal agents in cancer patients. METHODS: As an estimate of bias we used relative risk of death in those patients the authors considered had not died from fungal infection. Our sample consisted of 69 trials included in four systematic reviews of prophylactic or empirical antifungal treatment in patients with cancer and neutropenia we have published previously. RESULTS: Thirty trials met the inclusion criteria. The trials comprised 6130 patients and 869 deaths, 220 (25%) of which were ascribed to fungal infection. The relative risk of death was 0.85 (95% CI 0.75–0.96) for total mortality, 0.57 (95% CI 0.44–0.74) for fungal mortality, and 0.95 (95% CI 0.82–1.09) for mortality among those who did not die from fungal infection. CONCLUSION: We could not support the hypothesis that use of disease specific mortality introduces bias in antifungal trials on cancer patients as our estimate of the relative risk for mortality in those who survived the fungal infection was not increased. We conclude that it seems to be reliable to use fungal mortality as the primary outcome in trials of antifungal agents. Data on total mortality should be reported as well, however, to guard against the possible introduction of harmful treatments
Prosociality in business: a human empowerment framework
This study introduces a human empowerment framework to better understand why some businesses are more socially oriented than others in their policies and activities. Building on Welzel’s theory of emancipation, we argue that human empowerment—comprised of four components: action resources, emancipative values, social movement activity, and civic entitlements—enables, motivates, and entitles individuals to pursue social goals for their businesses. Using a sample of over 15,000 entrepreneurs from 43 countries, we report strong empirical evidence for two ecological effects of the framework components on prosociality. We find that human empowerment (1) lifts entrepreneurs’ willingness to choose a social orientation for their business, and (2) reinforces the gender effect on prosociality in business activity. We discuss the human empowerment framework’s added value in understanding how modernization processes fully leverage the potential of social business activities for societies

An Ultra Deep Field survey with WFIRST
Studying the formation and evolution of galaxies at the earliest cosmic
times, and their role in reionization, requires the deepest imaging possible.
Ultra-deep surveys like the HUDF and HFF have pushed to mag \mAB30,
revealing galaxies at the faint end of the LF to 911 and
constraining their role in reionization. However, a key limitation of these
fields is their size, only a few arcminutes (less than a Mpc at these
redshifts), too small to probe large-scale environments or clustering
properties of these galaxies, crucial for advancing our understanding of
reionization. Achieving HUDF-quality depth over areas 100 times larger
becomes possible with a mission like the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope
(WFIRST), a 2.4-m telescope with similar optical properties to HST, with a
field of view of 1000 arcmin, 100 the area of the
HST/ACS HUDF.
This whitepaper motivates an Ultra-Deep Field survey with WFIRST, covering
100300 the area of the HUDF, or up to 1 deg, to
\mAB30, potentially revealing thousands of galaxies and AGN at the
faint end of the LF, at or beyond \,\,910 in the epoch of
reionization, and tracing their LSS environments, dramatically increasing the
discovery potential at these redshifts.

input to the Astro2020 Decadal Survey, with this version including an Appendix
(which exceeded the Astro2020 page limits), describing how the science drivers
for a WFIRST Ultra Deep Field might map into a notional observing program,
including the filters used and exposure times needed to achieve these depths.
